Thrilling Trails - Peaceful Paths Watertonian Cyndi Smith captured this stunning panorama high above tree line on the Alderson-Carthew Trail. Waterton has some of the best hiking in the Canadian Rockies with 225 kilometers of established trails. Some connect with trails in Glacier National Park, Montana and Akamina-Kishinena Provincial Park in British Columbia. Guide books and topographical maps are available at village shops. Nature Up Close The mating habits of foxes can be seen as one of the best examples of true monogamy and old fashioned courtship. In the wild, the male fox courts the female vixen in the ultimate pursuit - which means he follows her around until she makes her decision. The female fox typically only chooses one male partner for raising her kits. Here in Waterton, there was one famous fox couple who won the hearts of both visitors and locals. The true gem in this special red fox family was the female vixen, who increased in popularity as her character consistently modeled pure traits of a mother who solely lived for her kids. No doubt, the male fox chose the cream of the crop in this Waterton wildlife community. They modeled a family lifestyle from a 50’s family TV show. This special red fox family resided in a den near the Prince of Wales hotel where the male would often be sited bringing his family his latest kill. The female would lovingly greet him at the den before taking her 14 WATERTON LAKES NATIONAL PARK

kits their meal. Every spring, adoring fans would visit, lens ready, and this family certainly did not disappoint, allowing them to capture the most natural moments of a loving family. In April 2015, the mother passed away in the vicinity of the den, leaving behind her newest batch of kits, her partner and her legacy. The widowed father was noted bringing ground squirrels in attempts to feed the kits; however, because of their age they still required their mother’s milk to survive. It was a rare scenario as typically this type of situation occurs in the woods and goes unnoticed. But because this family was so well-known, conservationists were able to rescue these orphans and raise them in a way so they won’t get used to people. When they are old enough to hunt for themselves, they will be returned to the national park to continue this circle of life. This fox family will be missed. Sharing this story honors the way they allowed the community to witness nature in its utmost beauty.

Up Your Camping Experience Imagine a clear night sky and bellies warm with hot chocolate whole roasting marshmallows over an open fire, the standard perfect camping trip. This time, imagine yourself sharing the lifestyle of the indigenous people that lived here thousands of years ago as you drift to sleep in a traditional tipi. The added benefit is this unique experience does not come with the extra hassle of setup. Located along the Red Rock Park Way in the scenic Blakiston Valley, Crandell Mountain Campground is set up with four permanently set up tipis. The campground is equipped with a turf floor so campers are asked to bring sleeping mats. When you crawl into bed each night, you can stare through the centre opening and fall asleep to the fresh night air that continuously circulates inside.
This authentic experience is not your normal camping experience and should be added to your bucket list as it combines the love of the wilderness, a little bit of culture and bragging rights of sleeping in a traditional tipi!

My Waterton Stephen Harrington, Photographer Over the years I’ve experienced many special moments in Waterton. My photography allows me to share this magic we call Waterton with others. Nature teaches us to be patient and to appreciate the manner in which she reveals herself. Though my camera only records a brief moment in time, the art of photography captures the emotion of the event for an eternity. It is this emotion that helps us identify with Waterton. It is the reason we continue to explore, wondering what more she has in store for us. Š Steve Harrington www.shphoto.prosite.com

Blakiston, the park’s highest mountain (2940 m/9645 ft), are complimented by strikingly colored red and green rocks. Red Rock Canyon offers a lovely day use area with trails, exhibits, and picnic shelters.
Chief Mountain International Highway / Belly River Departs Highway #5 east of the Park gate. It leads to Glacier National Park, USA, and the Chief Mountain customs station. Huge pack trains with hundreds of horses, packed with supplies, mail and wealthy tourists, would travel through pristine Rocky Mountain wilderness. Then they would overnight in elaborate wilderness camps as they travelled from lodge to lodge. Today you can still enjoy it all by horseback. There are qualified services for all skill levels, each with their own specialty, dedicated to providing a safe and enjoyable time. Pristine Waters This Park is a water world. Fish. Sail. Windsurf. Scuba dive. Swim. Canoe and Kayak. So many ways to enjoy. From the valley floor to alpine cirques, Waterton has an abundance of lakes. Crystalline springs bubble alongside mountain trails. Waterfalls cascade from cliffy heights. A river flows through. Riparian pools attract wildlife. Upper Waterton Lake is a Rocky Mountain classic. Deeply carved by glaciers from overthrust sedimentary strata, it is the deepest lake in the Canadian Rockies at 148 m/487 ft. Pure and clean, its waters originate from the very top of the Continental Divide. Born from melting snowfields and mountain springs, Upper Waterton Lake feeds the Saskatchewan river system that empties into Hudson Bay. Rejuvenating and fun, these waters offer lots of recreational opportunities.

Romance in the Rockies

There’s a magic about Waterton that frequent visitors all feel but can’t explain. As an explorer at heart, the mountains in Waterton call to me constantly, which is why I am there as much as possible. Exploring Waterton in winter is truly an unforgettable experience. I will never forget snowshoeing to Forum Falls and seeing it completely frozen over. There wasn’t a single track in the fresh snow and we were the first to venture toward the falls. The ice looked like it was suspended mid-fall to the snow covered ground and it was so quiet that you could hear the water from the Falls still trickling underneath the ice. Wintertime in Waterton has my heart—probably the reason why we decided to get married in Waterton during a snowstorm!
There are some moments that we remember forever, sometimes they remind us of a person, a time or a place. For me, one of these places in Photo by Windy Ev angelista Waterton. When I think of the mountain-nestled village, I think of one winter night that my husband, Jed, and I were walking through the townsite. The sky was clear and crisp, the moon was full and it’s light illuminated Cameron Falls in such a way that it took our breath away. We had to pause for a moment and take it in together. I feel so fortunate to have shared such a beautiful, peaceful moment with my life partner, my business partner, and my best friend. Being entrepreneurs who work from the web, travel is engrained in our lifestyle. We use our time away to reconnect, refuel, and refocus our energy. We have traveled all over the world and experienced many remarkable places, but Waterton is a special Photo by Windy Evangelista gem. To have a place so beautiful and quaint situated amongst world-class scenery and located only a short drive away is a blessing… one that cannot be described, only be experienced.
My Waterton Max & Christie Low, Wieners of Waterton “There is love in the air here in Waterton. Max was raised in these mountains and we fell in love as we explored them together. We’ve discovered beautiful places around the world, but nothing compares to the awe that we feel in Waterton. As we continued hiking, camping, climbing and snowshoeing together, we decided to be
married. The destination for our wedding was obvious. With the familiar mountains as our backdrop, we exchanged our vows in a memorable Waterton ceremony. Max and I couldn’t be happier to call Waterton our home and look forward to many more adventures in this lovely mountain air.”

The cruise on upper Waterton Lake is the ultimate Peace Park experience. No stop signs, no customs, you freely float from Canada into the United States and back. The majestic landscape is unencumbered. The trip is made possible only by the family owned Waterton Shoreline Cruises. For three generations and over 60 years the Kretz/Robinson family have safely charted the Upper Waterton Lake. Their on-board narrative enhances the experience. “Waterton helps me to put all of life’s complexities and challenges back into perspective. No matter how stressful or difficult the situation, all I have to do is lose myself momentarily in the Park and I am able to clear my head. Whether scrambling up a remote mountain peak, mountain biking hours away from the nearest road, kayaking across the lake to an area devoid of the sounds of civilization, or simply immersing myself in a book steeped in local history, Waterton has a way of making me appreciate the simple things in life, and remembering what is really important.” —Keith Robinson
The Suleman family who operate the Bayshore Inn and Waterton-Glacier Suites exemplify the values of the Peace Park. Once refugees from east Africa whose family holdings were confiscated by an African dictator, the Suleman’s landed in Canada and soon reestablished their businesses. They came to Waterton in the early 90’s. Now after 25 years, three generations of Sulemans have made the Bayshore and its sister property one of the highest ranking accommodation and food services in the Park. In addition to their world class hospitality, the family is highly involved in education and peace initiatives worldwide.

Where in the world can you find a UNESCO World Heritage Site, an International Peace Park, and a Biosphere Reserve all rolled into one? At Waterton Lakes National Park, part of the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park, this is the only place paddling on earth endowed with all photo three titles. Tucked away in the southwest corner of Alberta, Waterton lies three hours south of Calgary and one and a half hours southwest of Lethbridge. The dramatic collision of prairies and mountains has forged a wealth of distinct habitats – 45 to be precise. The combination of grasslands, wetlands, aspen groves, evergreen forests and alpine tundra has led to an unusual diversity of plant life and is home to a rich variety of wildlife. Watch for bighorn sheep, mountain goats, elk and black bear. It may be the smallest of our Rocky Mountain parks, but many consider it the hidden jewel in the crown. Hit the back trails and you’re likely to see more wildlife than people. Soak up the sun on the beach of Upper Waterton Lake, or cruise across the water to another country! Hike the infamous Crypt Lake Trail or paddle Cameron Lake. And when the sun slips below the peaks, swap stories over a cold beverage and take in the sweeping panoramas high atop the hill at the iconic Prince of Wales Hotel. Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park shares parkland in Alberta and Montana and is part of what has become known as the “Crown of the Continent”, 42,000 sq km (16,000 sq mi) of spellbinding scenery spanning the corners of Montana, Alberta and British Columbia. Where the Mountains Meet the Prairies / Lewis Overthrust Fault Many of Waterton’s unique natural features are the result of a geologic phenomena, the Lewis Overthrust. Millions of years ago, plate tectonics uplifted a massive slab of the earth’s crust and slid it east about 80km from its original location. The slab slid up and over the underlying crust. Waterton’s mountain prairie interface is the result. You can see the effects today at the base of Bellevue Hill on the Red Rock Parkway. Like a giant bulldozer, the mountains continue to be pushed out atop the underlying prairie covered strata.
Glaciers once flowed here. The grassland section of the park is the best preserved glacial outflow field in the Canadian Rockies. See side moraines, tarns and eskers along the prairie trail. Weather plays a significant role. Located on the Pacific storm track, winds deliver airborne seeds and climate is moderated by warmer Pacific winds. The combined result: Waterton is home to more than 1,000 native plants, 250 species of birds, more than 60 species of mammals, 24 species of fish and 10 species of reptiles and amphibians! Locals Know The Maskinonge is the perfect scenic pullout to enjoy Waterton’s riparian eco-zone (see map pages 10-11). Here are a few not to be missed scenic viewpoints and photographic locations:
Waterton is considered a birding hot spot. Over 250 species nest or travel through the Park. Golden eagles soar over mountain ridges during their migrations. Black-headed grosbeaks, lazuli buntings and western tanagers grace forests and shrublands with their spring songs. White-tailed ptarmigan feed near subalpine lakes.Varied thrushes lend an ethereal feeling to ancient subalpine forests. Breathtaking mountain bluebirds and prairie falcons are grassland dwellers. Common loons carry their chicks on their backs while osprey dive to capture fish in wetland lakes. Careful observers will find American dippers, spotted sandpipers and harlequin ducks amidst mountain streams. Sandhill Cranes have recently begun to nest in Waterton. Hear their loud clacky calls at the Maskinonge. Enjoy listening and watching for the special birds who call this place home. Expect the unexpected. mywaterton.ca

My Waterton, Paahtomahksikimi ... Dr. Brian Reeves
Mistakis “The Backbone of the World” and more specifically “Api-pistokaki-kimi”... (North Big Inside Lake) (Waterton) has been my home for 73 years. It’s my centering place, my sacred place, the constant in my life. When driving in, and I first see the mountains, valleys, lakes, grasslands and forests, my heart is joyful and my spirit uplifted. I am returning home once again, to land held dear to humans for over 500 generations. I give thanks to the Piikani ancestors and the spirits that dwell within, as well to the early ranchers who so valued this place they worked hard to protect it. Over 130 years ago they recognized it’s outstanding values and got the lands set aside. Parts of my family have been here ever since. We and our children are today’s keepers. We must all continue the work to ensure Mistakis continues for untold generations. It is a privilege, not a right, to reside in such a place as the winds sent by Napi constantly remind me. mywaterton.ca

WATERTON LAKES NATIONAL PARK 41
Watchable Wildlife Waterton Lakes National Park is one of the best places to view wildlife in the Rocky Mountains. Moose, bear, elk, deer, pine marten, lynx and 57 other mammals (not to mention 250 species of birds, 6 species of amphibians, 4 species of reptiles and 24 species of fish) abound in this 505 square kilometre protected area. Seeing wildlife can be a special moment in one’s lifetime. Whether it is watching a bear forage for berries on the open slopes along the Red Rock Parkway, or watching a bald eagle fly over the International boat on Upper Waterton Lake, a wildlife encounter is something we never forget. The opportunity to be with wildlife is a privilege. It's important to remember when we're in Waterton Lakes National Park we've entered the home of wildlife. We all have a role to play in helping keep the wildlife natural and safe.
Locals Know • The best time to see wildlife is early morning and evenings. • Take your time. Wait and watch for animals to move through an area. • Maintain a safe distance. Many animals have a critical distance where they feel threatened. Give them space. • Carry binoculars. A lot happens out there if you can see farther afield.

Wildlife Weekend Each fall as many as 1500 elk gather in Waterton for the annual rut. Waterton offers unparalleled opportunities to observe this up close. The elk gather on the Blackiston Fan and visitors can see the dramatic event from their cars. Big bulls joust in combat. They gather and herd females and work frantically to protect them from other bulls. The high, shrill elk bugle is incomparable. You can experience this and many other wildlife viewing opportunities at the annual Waterton Wildlife Weekend in September. Visit watertonwildlife.com to find out more!
Fall into Waterton
The plethora of colours infinitely highlights the beauty of Waterton Lakes National Park in the fall. The mountainside sings while awash in golden hues. The peaks of Vimy and Mt. Cleveland act as backdrops to the bold brush strokes of oranges, bright yellows, and fiery reds. Upper Waterton Lake cools the scene down with blues and greens that mellow the storm of colours embodied in the trees and leaves. Hundreds of elk populate the Blakiston fan, all with thick, shiny coats, the males parading with antlers at peak growth, hoping to attract eligible females. Bighorn sheep roam the town site, licking salt off the pavement with some males engaging in head-butting tests of strength. If you are lucky, very rare sightings include the wild cats in the park, such as cougar, bobcat, and the ever elusive lynx. Hiking in the fall demands participants to dress in layers as changes in elevation bring all types of weather—from sunshine and a slight breeze, to rain and possible hail. Riots of colours, diverse animal sightings, and ideal hiking temperatures, make fall in Waterton Lakes National Park something you need to see to believe.

International Significance Nature knows no political boundary. Waterton shares a common border with adjacent Glacier National Park in Montana. Natural processes are common to both Parks. In 1932, Waterton and Glacier were designated as the world’s first International Peace Park. The Peace Park concept was spawned by Rotary Clubs in Montana and Alberta to commemorate the long friendship between nations. The fundamental concept remains the same and has evolved to include ecosystem management as an important element. Note: Today there are less than 25 peace parks globally, Waterton-Glacier was the first in 1932. The United Nations bestowed upon it the prestigious World Heritage Site designation. Experience the Peace Park on a scenic boat cruise aboard the International. Of national significance is the Prince of Wales Hotel. Together with the First Oil Well in Western Canada on Akamina Parkway the two are designated National Historic Sites of Canada.

Waterton is the only place in the Canadian Rockies where the prairies and mountains meet without a transition of foothills.
On Top of the World! Once known as Bear Mountain by the Piikani (Blackfoot) tribe for its humplike appearance, the short but rewarding Bear’s Hump hike is without a doubt the most popular hiking trail in Waterton Lakes National Park. It offers spectacular views without being too much for the novice hiker. In about half an hour, after a steep and steady climb of just over 1 kilometre and 700 foot elevation gain, the trees part to reveal the view that you have been waiting for. The flat top of the “hump” of the mountain acts as a stage to the theatre of the beauty of Waterton. Looking south, the view begins with the colourful roofs of the town site and stretches down the breathtaking Waterton valley, showcasing the luminescent Middle and Upper Waterton Lakes glistening in the sunlight. Taking in a 360° view from this vantage point, you can see why Waterton is referred to as the point “where the mountains meet the prairies”.

The Magic of Waterton
YEAR ROUND FUN!
There is something magical about Waterton Lakes National Park in the winter season that speaks to your soul in the most basic way
watch the sun setting behind the majestic Waterton mountains and experience a family meal without distractions. Reconnect and be present as these moments can be few and far between.
Winter brings deep quiet to Waterton, but does not diminish its beauty. Snow and ice transform the park to a frozen haven. Peaceful quiet so intense the snow crunching beneath your snowshoes is the most sound you will hear while exploring the snow dusted Cameron Lake. There are also excellent opportunities for cross country skiing in Waterton Lakes National Park. Designated trails are clearly identified by trailhead signs describing degree of difficulty and other information. While exploring outside, hear the delighted giggle of a child as she sees a deer for the first time; witness the triumph of a completed snowman and whoop with glee as you fly down a hill on a toboggan. Be present for these magical moments with loved ones as you escape to Waterton this winter.
For couples looking to re-connect, turn off your phone and live in the moment. You will find that this type of relaxing escape will take you back to what matters most in life. Get away from the grind of everyday life while you appreciate joy in the little things, like the way hot chocolate, marshmallows and a fireplace make the perfect combination. Sometimes it can feel like you’re moving mountains; in this quiet, quaint village, you simply get to enjoy them. The two hotels open during the winter serve as the ultimate catalyst for this type of experience. Outside of the room, romantic activities can involve bundling up and taking a walk around the Waterton townsite, relishing the serenity of the quiet. Take in Cameron Falls and feel the refreshing mountain air rejuvenate your soul. Reconnect while enjoying some romantic cross-country skiing. And on the way back to your hotel, you notice that the warm glow of the hotel lights stick out like a beacon—almost as if it’s calling you home.
After exploring the park on snowshoes, building a snowman, and then tobogganing down an exciting snowy hill, warm up in one of Waterton’s restaurants with a hot beverage and a delicious meal. Although there’s only a few open in Waterton year round, there is still a variety of options to cater to your comfort food craving after a fun-filled day of winter activities. The best part is you get to 50 WATERTON LAKES NATIONAL PARK

Cross Country Skiing Cross Country skiing in Waterton is for the outdoor enthusiasts that want to get off the beaten path. The back country of Waterton offers a different taste than trails offered at other National Parks. What is the difference? Untouched. The experience Waterton offers is terrain that is mostly ungroomed as less visitors frequent this area in the winter. It really is the best hidden secret and what better way to uncover them than to glide along a trail alone. Here, you don’t have to worry about bumping into others and you certainly don’t have to travel along the same paths thousands of others have travelled before. Why Waterton in the winter seems to still be a secret is unknown, but cross country skiing here is so personal and intimate, you will feel the difference.

Wildlife
Whether you actively seek out wildlife or allow it to happen organically, a sighting can certainly add to the ambiance of your quiet vacation in Waterton in the winter. Deer and bighorn sheep are the most common, especially right in the village. Although you may be the only people visiting the town, you may have to share it with these mild in nature creatures that often make an appearance. They are not shy and may even stay still long enough to pose proudly for a photo.
www.mywaterton.ca
If viewing wildlife in Waterton is on your bucket list be sure to check out the Blakiston Fan, which is south of the Entrance Parkway, between Lower and Middle Waterton Lakes. This area typically hosts hundreds of elk and if you stand at the gate area there is a high probability to see them crossing the Waterton River.
Throughout the Waterton Lakes National Park Activity Guide we have used a variety of pictures that were submitted in our Photo Contest. We thank all of those who submitted their photos.
Nothing connects you more to nature than spotting a moose, red squirrel, snowshoe hare or marten. A prime spot to increase your chances to see these animals is along Akamina Parkway. If you really want to add to the experience, grab a mug of something hot, and enjoy nature in its purest form. arry Moore

Waterfalls Cameron Falls
People have said there is something magical about Waterton in the winter. At the heart of this “magic” you can find Cameron Falls. This spot is a must see in the summer and is often surrounded by crowds that want that perfect selfie with the iconic falls in the background. However, in the winter, they become something much more intimate. It can be described as a frozen flow of ice. Sometimes in life, you just need to freeze for just a minute in silence and savor the beauty. Cameron Falls in the winter allows you to do just that and although beautiful in the summer, there is a reason many prefer it in the winter. It is something you need to experience for yourself.

Building a Snowman
Building a snowman is time tested and still one of the best ways to connect with your loved ones. This activity is not the latest model and it doesn’t come with warranty; You don’t have to stand in line or fight the crowds and you certainly don’t have to watch that dreaded show for the one thousandth time. However, new or old, this activity seems to still be in several winter films and do you notice how everyone looks so… Happy?? It almost as if in that moment, life is just perfect. Here in Waterton, we do not profess to be perfect. However, Waterton does provide the catalyst for perfect moments to transpire. Put the cell phone down and invest some quality time in this classic activity. The best part is in the winter, Waterton is uncrowded so you feel like you have the place to yourself. Sure, you can build a snowman in your own backyard, but in ours, the laughter can echo for miles. mywaterton.ca

Snowshoeing CRUNCH. CRUNCH. CRUNCH. This may be the only sound you hear when you snowshoe the uncrowded trails of Waterton. Of course, that is only if silence is what you are looking for when you immerse yourself in Waterton’s surreal back country. Regardless if you are silent or talking, this is an experience that will leave you refreshed and reconnected with your friends, family or children. For those that have never tried this activity the best advice is to just go and do it. You don’t need lessons; it is really something you can just fall into. Snowshoeing has been around for centuries and although the equipment has evolved, it is an activity that is meant to make hiking through snow covered terrain an easier endeavour. That being said, it is still a great workout and will leave you exhausted but rejuvenated at the same time. It is a unique winter sport that is still not experienced by many and those that have keep coming back to experience it over and over again. 54 WATERTON LAKES NATIONAL PARK

Our Magical Place There’s just something about watching the landscape build into the mountains on the way to Waterton—you know you are heading somewhere special. In winter, the town clears out and most businesses get boarded up, but it makes you feel like you are the only people on earth. Snowshoeing is our favourite way to really experience the mountains in the winter. Gazing at Forum Falls after a heart pumping climb is the best kind of therapy there is. You can feel your worries floating away like your breath in the cold air; inhaling the crisp mountain air, and exhaling the worries and stresses of everyday life. It is a relaxing place for us—every time I mention going to Waterton for the weekend, Erin’s eyes light up in anticipation.

Impress your friends and family with these Unique Waterton Facts! WATERTON VALLEY Enveloped on both sides by mountains as far as the eye can see, Upper Waterton Lake leisurely meanders south to the United States. Dots of green, red, and brown mark the town site businesses and the Prince of Wales stands like nobility in the foreground. This view is an icon to Waterton, making it the ultimate differentiator to other National Parks. NO CHAINS Unlike the majority of National Parks, Waterton businesses have a long standing history in the Park. Pat’s Waterton was the second building built in the Park (after the Prince of Wales)*, and the Waterton Shoreline Cruise Co. has been offering cruises on Waterton Lakes since the mid-1950’s. The Waterton Challenge: The Art of Doing Nothing Absolutely nothing. But for some, this is exactly what they are looking for. For some, this is exactly what they need. For some, staying still, staying quiet with the sound of your own breath requires a mindset we are not used to hearing outside of a yoga studio. However, like yoga, this type of mediation practice isn’t about trying to throw ourselves away and become something better. It’s about befriending who we are already. By embracing this quiet mountain town, you are embracing yourself.
It’s when its quiet the reality of who you are sets in and Waterton removes the distraction and holds up that mirror without judgement. However, you get to determine if you like what you see. This is where you get to be real. This is where you get clarity. This is where you can start to love yourself again.
Some have referred to Waterton as a ‘ghost-town’ and it may be appropriate title. Here you can tackle your personal “ghosts” by gaining perspective and clarity.
There is no question about the beauty of Waterton. The challenge is turning your mind off and getting comfortable in your own skin and loving who you are, despite your imperfections.

Gill Ross
After a long and arduous climb up the ridge, you finally crest the peak and gaze upon hundreds of wildflowers. The guide points out rare species that are only found in Waterton Gill Ross such as a cluster of western wake-robin, and Lewis’ mock-orange. Along another slope the group provincially rare species of wildflowers such as the oddshaped mountain lady’s slipper, mountain hollyhock, and the cheery pygmy poppy. This guided hike is only a fraction of what is offered during the Waterton Wildflower Festival. Guided hikes, walks, workshops on photography and art, and presentations on the wildflower capital of Canada comprise this annual event.
The definition of a wildflower means that the flower grows freely without human intervention. As the wildflower capital of Canada, Waterton Marlene Thurlow boasts more than 1,000 plant species including half of all wildflower species found in Alberta. Of those, 175 species are listed as rare in Alberta and 20 are found only in Waterton. From bear grass to orchids, pink meadowsweet, and glacier lilies, learn to identify the different species, see wildflowers from horseback, cruise, or canoe, indulge in an afternoon tea with local experts, and learn about wildflower photography and painting. The possibilities and mediums are endless when learning about Waterton wildflowers during the 13th annual Waterton Wildflower Festival. Elaine Kennedy
