15 SHEN ZHOU (1427 – 1509) Landscape ink on paper, framed 56 x 71cm. Provenance: Gulbenkian Durham museum [label]. The Gulbenkian Museum is an important collection of Chinese art within the UK. Museum records confirm that the painting was on display until 1974. The label contains the stock number PSR12, and whilst the museum refuses to confirm the identity of deaccessioned stock, there is a record of pieces within the collection donated by Mrs PS Rawson, whose initials match those of PSR. Philip S. Rawson (1924 – 1995), the founding curator of the museum, thus lending further evidence to the provenance of the painting. A hand-written note on the back of the painting also says in German ‘verkauft aus Ludwig Burckard’. which might refer to Johann Ludwig Burckhardt (1784 – 1817), the famous Swiss traveller and Orientalist. £4,000 – 6,000 沈周 山水 水墨紙本 玻璃鏡框 款識：煙樹雲山信手塗，壹朝聚米見斯圖。墨痕不比青山色，還似宣和畫院無。 效米元章 沈周 鈐印：「啟南」「石田」「明古」
