19 AVENUE TH
on the Beach
Resort Reception Refurbishment Hotel resort reception fit-out of 19th Avenue on the Beach. The resort provides guests with uninterrupted ocean views and has a stunning backdrop of the Gold Coast hinterland mountains and the newly refurbished interior is designed to compliment the beautiful surroundings of both the mountains and the ocean. The colour palette is indicative of this and the smooth texture of the custom reception counter made from carbonised bamboo timber offers a luxurious, yet relaxed and warm feel throughout the reception and lobby area.
// 9
Complimenting the reception counter, a custom made feature wall will be installed behind the reception with the business logo embossed into the beautiful bamboo timber to give sophistication and match the modern furnishings throughout the design. Sustainability is always a consideration and the materials chosen reflect this in both renewable and recyclable qualities. The mirror patterns reflect the sky outside and create a spacious feeling when entering the lobby, and also double as a tool allowing reception staff to view the front door and entrance to the resort. The design reflects a light, fresh and relaxing atmosphere for guests as they arrive to begin their vacation.

Sustainable Office Fit-Out Redirective office fit-out, focused on sustainability within the design industry. This university project allowed students to look at sustainability through all aspects of design and reuse and repurpose existing elements in order to create a co-shared office space where the tenants work together with a common interest in directing focus away from design contributing to the current condition of unsustainability by focusing on a direction based on futuring.
// 13
Custom joinery elements throughout the design include up cycled and repurposed shipping pallets as meeting pods and multiple ceiling features throughout the space. Reducing, reusing and recycling is a major theme of the design and the practices within the companies leasing the space. Adjustable workstations will allow the workers to easily switch between sitting and standing positions throughout the day. Recycled mailing tubes are being repurposed as a giant pin art wall, which is incredibly versatile in its display options. Upcycled timber beams will be assembled to create a stunning reception desk at varying heights for both sitting and standing which then extends to a sculpted

Small Town Revitalisation Project Alvesta is situated in the cross section of all major railway routes in the south of Sweden. However, the town is lacking in culture, activities and most of all, identity. By redesigning the main street of the Swedish small town Alvesta, to a pedestrian only street, closed to vehicle traffic, we can attract locals and visitors with an ever changing, vibrant and cultural centre. The aim was to create a safe and welcoming environment for locals as well as generate more foot traffic for the local businesses and boutiques. The space will be flexible and forever changing with a strong focus on Swedish culture.

Hospitality Outlet Design Revitalisation of the Brisbane district of Stones Corner. This area was once a vibrant and cultural area but now has lost its substance and this university project was in two parts; to work together to solve the issues in a collaborative project working with wayfinding, streetscaping, building facades and urban planning. Part two was an individual project to design one aspect of this to contribute to the overall community of Stones Corner and reintroduce the locals to their new cultural precinct.

King Billy’s Jazz Bar + CafÊ is inspired by the Aboriginal Corroborees as a place of entertainment, music and a place to relax and unwind. The history of Stones Corner is rich and interesting, extending back to the original Aboriginal Coorparoo clan. By keeping the graffiti element from the existing building, it gives an eclectic feel throughout the courtyard space. Inside this industrial feel is continued with raw red brick walls and dark shades of grey, and the timber features give life and warmth to the space to create the perfect setting for any event, night or day. The courtyard space is multifunctional as the undercover patio can be transformed into a stage for live performances by the jazz band or other artists commissioned for the late afternoons and evenings. Alternatively, next to the outdoor bar, there is a perfect space for a solo act.

Sustainable Retail Fit-Out Retail design for disassembly allows for the ever changing retail outlets to be redesigned without discarding an enormous amount of materials. This university project takes this into consideration and is designed from a sustainable perspective. All materials used are recycled and ecologically sustainable. The fixtures and fittings are able to be disassembled and reused in different ways which allows for minimal waste.
// 25
All joinery pieces will be installed using a clip lock system and wall joinery is assembled onto panels for quick and easy installation and uninstallation. Additionally, all materials used throughout the fit-out are of natural or recycled content. This allows for quick assemble and minimisation of waste during retrofit or similar. As an optical retail outlet, we have a unique opportunity to reach out to our target market, which, to our advantage, includes a wide range of demographics. The elements included in this design are minimal, yet extremely versatile and can be adapted to an endless array of styles. The initial outlay of sustainable materials and practices can be imminent, but the cost of unsustainability is not only inflated in the long run, it suppresses gradual aftereffects to our living that can be prevented. As for the product, there are a number of local and international suppliers which are manufacturing sustainable eye wear from a number of materials, including timber, bamboo and plant based material.

Community Project The MND & Me Foundation is a non-profit organisation that raises awareness and support for motor neuron disease and approached the university to design their new headquarters and office space in Coorparoo, Brisbane. The areas are required for both business and leisure, where volunteers and guests can work together to support the cause. This multifunctional space would become the home of the foundation and therefore needed to be bright, comfortable and flexible.

The aim in creating this space was for those affected by MND to forget their worries and to create a ‘home away from home’ to relax and enjoy time with family and friends. Along with this, the space requires multifunctionality to be used for business meetings, charity events, cocktail parties, counselling sessions, volunteer work, kids area as well as staff and guests to sit and relax. The team has taken all client requests and created a design that we think best fits the space and its purpose, as well as needs for a functional and easily accessible environment.

The layout has been carefully considered to maintain a sophisticated style with appeal to women who like to know what is on trend but still set themselves apart from the mainstream. The environment is always a consideration and only FCS approved papers are used with vegetable inks. Online versions are also available for convenience to the readers and with sustainability in mind.

Music Poster Design Kanye West music poster was designed for a university project that required the use of vector images and a maximum of three spot colours. A logo design for the venue was required as well as relevant information to the event. Kanye West was chosen as the album art for the Yeezus record was a blank CD with no artwork. He was inspired by Le Corbussier’s architecture during the making of the album and I found his relation between architecture and music interesting. As there was no artwork for this album, there were no preconceived ideas for the poster and was more open to my own interpretation and creativity for the design.

Book Cover Redesign These book covers have been redesigned to visually rebrand Virginia Andrews’ gothic novels from The Dollanganger Series and The Casteel Series and create a new, consistent identity through aesthetic and typographic style. The novels published between 1979 and 1986 were in need of an updated and the designs depict the eerie, yet romantic genre and maintain a contemporary feel. The covers, as well as the internal pages, are minimalistic to contrast the dramatic and detailed story lines that are typical of Andrews’ work.

Food + Sustainability Project Eat Your Credits is a food and sustainability course proposed and presented to Linnaeus University, Sweden. It involves students preparing and cooking meals in a group setting while introducing and learning about the process of harvesting, food preparation and cooking, as well as how to deal with the waste that is associated with food. There are countless social and environmental issues that are associated with food production and these issues are more often than not, out of sight, out of mind. The social implications and benefits from shared cooking classes will also be addressed. The meals that are created can provide relief for students struggling with maintaining a good physical and psychological health. Moving towards a knowledge exchange, the aim was to build this course based on student interaction and community building within the classroom to keep students engaged while learning. // 53
