Simply T
known as Tina Glenn was born and raised in Winston-Salem, NC. She grew up with a family of great singers who shared the love of music. Her mother, aunts and uncles sang in the church choir, but her mother often played music of all genres, therefore exposing her to the great sounds of R&B, Blues, Jazz, and other alternative music. She was inspired by the great vocals of artists like Patti Labelle, Whitney Houston, Stephanie Mills, Shirley Murdoch, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight and other strong female artist. These were just a few of the many artists that she tried to mimic throughout the years as she developed the strong vocal range and vocal style that she has today. She describes her style as being R&B/Neo Soul, with a touch of Jazz, but also has a good voice for Gospel. Simply T states that her goal is to “capture her audience with the type of music that would feed their souls and entertain their minds.” “Pure Therapy” is what she calls it. Simply T participated in chorus and other musical productions, from elementary school through high school which includes the well-know opera “Don Pasquale.”It was at the age of 7 when she sang a gospel song with a newly assembled children’s gospel group, when her family discovered that she had a great singing voice and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Throughout her years she has surround-

ed herself around other music artist and musicians, some who have inspired her to do what she does best, sing and create good quality music. Finally after being encouraged by her first manager Adrian White (King A, from the Hip Hop Group, Kings of Pressure out of New York), she decided that it was time for her to pursue her dream. With further encouragement and direction from Zonte Davis, and hooking up with producer Adam Miller (21Soul7), she went on to write and record her first singles.
Simply T is currently working on a new EP. With singles like “Can’t Trust You”, “Chocolate Fantasy”, and “Don’t Waste No Time”, and “It Takes More”, she is sure to satisfy the listening appetite of many audiences. Shamar "“Angel West”" Addison Pres. Of Money$Life WorldWide LLC
was born in the Bronx, New York. At a young age, his family relocated to Harlem (New York, New York) where he lived out his childhood. He attended Park West High School, and received his General Education High School Diploma. However, Shamar endeavors to go to undergraduate school and receive a college degree. Shamar recognizes the importance of staying fit. To this end, he works out and exercises regularly. He also enjoys attending sporting events. His favorite sports teams are the Giants, Yankees, Knicks, Rangers and the Broncos. Other interests are travelling, reading, and even shopping. Most important, however, is his intense fascination with poetry and music. He has a pungent ear for what sounds are catchy and likeable, and his desire therefore is to own and pursue his own record label. Shamar was raised by a single parent—his mother— as his father was missing from his life. She raised him to be a Christian, to know the Lord and stressed the importance of taking responsibility for your actions. She also emphasized that, in order to receive God’s blessings, you have to be a blessing to others. In addition to his mother, many of his mentors and teachers were also raised without their fathers. Thus, Shamar became determined to play a significant role in the lives of his children and to be a strong presence in their lives. Shamar has a deep-seated desire to assist his strug8 UNSIGNED
gling mother with raising his five siblings. Because of this and his passion to provide his kids with a better life, he puts 100% of himself into his endeavors. Thus, in 2009, he was nominated for the Underground Music Awards at BB Kings Recognizing that owning your own business entails more than simply knowing what’s “hot,” Shamar has made it his goal to study and comprehend the business aspect of owning a record label as well. Undoubtedly, his driving passion has come to fruition. It has passed that his hard work paid off because not only he released his first album in 2013 he started his own record label as well as a production company called JNJ productions and as off now in 2015 he is launching a radio show and tv show as well and his new album is slated to b released In May.

Essence: Growing up in Harlem, Did that make your musical decisions easier? Shamar: Well I would say Yes and No, I always loved music and I knew I had a talent to rap and sing but never thought about doing it until I started hanging out with people that was doing music their self that’s what made me start writing music. Essence: Making the decisions to go to college, what was the degree goal? Shamar: Well when I made that decision to go I felt like I needed the degree for the things I’m doing in my career my career goal was well is business management I will be starting in 2016. Essence: Has any of your poetry become a track that you have perform for fans or a single? Shamar: No none of my poetry isn’t used in my music I keep those separate only because I’m working on my first poetry book that’s slated to be released sometime in 2016. Essence: What was the experience that made you pick up a pen and begin to write? Shamar: Well as I said I love music so listening to all of the artist that created great music I wanted to be a pioneer just like that so I started writing and I got better and better. Essnece: The advice from such a Strong mom played what importance in your life and music? Shamar: Well my moms being a single parent had 9 UNSIGNED
to deal with a lot trying to take care of me and my oldest sister at the time so she couldn’t really do to much to teach me right from wrong and try to guide me down the right path in life I made my mistakes but my moms was always there to back me up. Essence: Share with the Fans some of your important endeavors? Shamar: To become a great individual to show people that you can own your own businesses I have a production company a record label 3 clothing lines and a graphics and design company it’s hard but you just have to keep pushing yourself. Essence: How is the process going owning record label? Shamar: Its going ok it’s a lot of work Branding myself and my artist and dealing with all of the negalities that comes with it. Essence: Your 2015 goals and advice to other upcoming artist? Shamar: To keep working hard to bring my companies to the top and keep them there it’s a lot of competition out there but as long as you stay focused and believe in yourself and your gift then you will be alright it’s all about dedication and determination.

Anita Melody Born: Melodie Anita Scott, March 29th, 1989, in Toronto Canada.When you think of a songbird what comes to mind? Most would believe it would be as simple as a bird and a musical note. For Toronto songstress Anita Melody it goes beyond that. Known for her distinctive voice and glowing personality this talented newartist is ready to spread her wings and stay atop of the highest of high. Anita was born to a Caribbean-Canadian mother and French-Canadian father. Her Father, an immensely popular children’s television puppet was working with the Ontario Education Communications Authority (later known as TVOntario). He left the family when Anita was very young. She was raised by her mother, Lynette Scott in a modest home with her four other siblings. Growing up in Scarborough, Ontario Anita has had her fair share trials and tribulations. Growing up she struggled to not only develop an identity but to project her unique qualities to see the best in people, places and things. Writing and recording her first song at the age of 14 gave Anita the confidence and the realization that making music was more than just a hobby. She knew she had to use this outlet of music & poetry as a tool to release the feelings she then had a hard time expressing. This in turn gave her the confidence to craft new songs to share her most passionate moments.Canadian 12 UNSIGNED
Idol: At the age of 16, she enrolled in the reality television show Canadian Idol. The show was great stepping stone for Anita to finally showcase her talents and singing abilities nationally. Upon entering the stage, contestants’ singing ability is immediately judged by the show’s judges. Talented singers are rewarded by vigorous applause, but those perceived as lacking are harshly criticized. With that in mind Anita knew that it was showtime. She performed three songs; Alicia Keys breakthrough single ‘Diary’, India Arie’s ‘Brownskin’ & the 1986 smash ’All Cried Out’ by Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam. Although her performance was critically praised by her peers, friends and family she did not advance to the next round. A New Way: Life situations with friends, family, and peers have always had an impact invoking lyrical inspirations that turned into real life experiences. This time around, though Anita Melody is moving forward with a level of optimism, love and authenticity. Her influences and inspirations come from various musicians such as: Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Aaliyah and Missy Elliot. These elite, high caliber artists have always been a pillar in her life more or less role models in her quest to create her own sound. Her lyrical content stems from a mixture of current & personal experiences, surrounding influences and her imagination. Being in the moment is key when seeking clarity for Ms Melody, enabling her to craft well put together songs conjuring a poetic
process that she calls ‘spiritual upliftment’. The time and effort put forward into structuring these songs are a God given talent that Anita expresses with nothing but gratitude. Changing Seasons is the upcoming debut EP by Anita Melody. Fused with R&B and Hip Hop Soul Melody started work on this EP this past year. About the album, Melody says, “This project is an emotional journey, inside and out, this is about the ups and downs, peaks and valleys but most importantly my truth.” The project title is a metaphor to life itself with every changing season. This forthcoming EP is still being recording and should be released sometime in late 2015. The Final Word:“Music is that place where I can express my emotions, my feelings, my everything. Melody: As a child I had always felt a sense of happiness when music was playing and when I would imitate the sounds it made me even more joyous. CEO: How supportive was your Mom and family when you decide to make your career to be a Singer? Melody: In the beginning they’ve always supported my music even before I was ready to take it serious, my mother had enrolled my in piano, my father bought me a guitar and I had been enrolled in singing lessons , at the time singing was just something that I did for fun. It was some years later that I realized it was a passion I would like to turn into a career. CEO: Did your trials and tribulations experiences make it easier to write songs with passion? Melody: Some feelings I’ll write into journals which are feelings that are to private to share and the ones i am able to share. CEO:Which song tells the Story of Ms. Melodie Scott? Melody: In my songs I tell a bit of my story. CEO: Do you still sing that very first song that you wrote when you was 14 yrs old? Melody: Sometimes I do however I lost the original song book I had so I don’t remember all of the lyrics. CEO: Have you ever Ghost Write for other artist? Melody: No, I have not as yet but I definitely would love to in the future CEO: How harsh was the critism from the Canadian Idol? Melody: It wasn’t too harsh but it was a little crushing at 16 yrs old for them to tell me my voice was under developed and they had also said I had no stage presence, to me at the time all I could think was “can’t they teach me that?” C’est la vie that’s life though. CEO: Would you ever return to the Canadian Idol since you have evolved into a much mature artist? Melody: It no longer exists out here. CEO: How would you explain you sound of music? Melody: What i can say is always remain humble, make sure your ready for the criticism, and be sure and confident within who you are before and after the changes the music industry will bring to your life, because people are always going to talk and make their assumptions but knowing your self in this world throughout anything you do is key CEO: You 2015 goal for fans and music? Melody: I’m just hoping for a successful release from the EP

Kareem “100k” Lewis was born and raised on the Southside of Chicago. Growing up in the early to late 90’s 100k made a name for himself rapping and battling on the streets on the Southside Chicago to the hallways of his alma mater. Influenced by artist such as: 2pac, Bone Thugs and Harmony, Nas, Lil Bud and Tizone and Lauryn Hill to name a few. While making a name for himself and recording a solo and group project which never seen the light of day. From ripping stages throughout the city, Maywood Fest and even opening up for TI at Grambling State University. Despite early success 100k took a step back from the game for a minute to pursue other career opportunities that he couldn’t pass up. 100k is back now with is new movement SoundDeli Music Group and is poised to make a comeback with his debut album “Flyer than I Use to be”. Meet The Riches 100K interviewd by: Kartie Kartie: How was the stage name created? 100K: My stage name came from me being real not only with myself and the type of music that I create, but with my friends, the artist I deal with and the clientele that choose my studio for their recording, mixing and mastering needs. People were constantly asking my opinion about their music or how I felt about their verses? Or how they delivered it and do I think they could do it better? I would give my honest opinion on whatever the subject matter was and the people around me as well as my clientele respected me even more for it. “They say see Kay that’s why I rock with you cause you keep it “100”! For those that don’t know being labeled “100” is another way of telling someone that they are honest and real. From they’re my bro Keel Bill start calling me 100k and it just stuck with me. Kartie: The tracks that were never use on your solo project, do you pull them sometimes when you perform? 100K: If it’s an event that I am promoting and pushing than no I don’t, my main focal point when it comes to choosing the music to perform is based off the product or material that I am promoting at that specific time. You always want to stay consistent with your message and brand. Promoting a project with a set amount of songs and then performing a set with material that didn’t make the project will only set a level of expectations for your listener because if they hear something that they like their expectations is that it is on the project. If someone else is promoting it than depending on the vibe or feel that they are looking for as far as the music goes is how I approach it from that perspective. If its a sound that is not on the project then Ill do my best to accommodate the promoter and their choice of sound. If that means that I have to pull something unreleased then I will do so. Kartie: How was the experience opening up for TI @ Grambling? 100K: I still look back on this day what an incredible time in my life. I will forever be grateful and appreciative of this wonderful opportunity that was blessed upon me. I want to take the time and salute Jeffery Winters (Skee), Jerime Winters (Scootywoot) and Lacey Rogers (Layso). Those guys really took me under their wing and showed me a great time. Very few artists in their lifetime get an opportunity to open up for a major artist in front of 4k to 5k people. We rep hard for Chicago and Louisiana really showed love and great hospitality. The radio station shouted us out the next day after so we definitely left out imprint on the city. Da Fam that’s what we went by and those guys will forever be family to me.

Kartie: What was the age your first battle rap, How did it begin and where 100K: I would have to say when I was around 8 or 9, my stepbrother Alex who was a couple years older than I was and who had already been writing lyrics for a while diss me or shell I say made fun of me after my brother coerced us to have rap battle. We went back and forward a minute until he hit me with the “My rhyme is dope and you need soap, cause your breath smell and you need scope!”(Laughing) I was the laughing stock of that moment an it’s a moment that I will never forget because it really push me to step my game up and really take this wonderful thing we call music serious. I simply didn’t want to be a laughed at anymore. From that point on a funny rap battle between my step brother and I is one of the moment that propelled me into music.
Kartie: During your change of career, did music always resurface when you heard a certain beat? 100K: Of course, I think the tech sector and the music sector are intertwined more so now than when I chose to leave the music sector for the technology sector years back. I use to sit at my cubicle and write rhymes on my notepad on the computer. Trying to keep the skills sharpen because I knew one day I would return to music, but also the things that I learned in the tech sector gave me an advantage because I was able to see music make the switch from analog to digital and while that was taking place I was learning the necessary tools to take advantage of the switch. Kartie: Explain the new movement with SoundDeli to the fans? 100K: SoundDeli, sounds you can sink your teeth into! Great music, dope beats and superb lyrical content, which hold true to who we are not only as artists and businessmen, but people as well. We offer a number of services from mixing, mastering, recording, photos, video, art-
work etc. We promote ownership over money; my mom always tell me you should always own something that is yours something that you can physically pass down. We also have a host of dope artist coming down the line: Maniac Angel, Petey B, Cordz Plug In, Dolla$ign $mall$, Y Dot, Peezy, HighBeam formally of Legit Ballers and Twista camp Chiraq Bandz. My colleague and friend Marcus Flournoy of Broken Portrait Films does all the video work and we are set not only to change music, but how and in which way you view it. Kartie: What your opinion on “Today Hip Hop”? 100K: I think today’s hip-hop is in need of a transition, I think we need to bring back a broad range of diversity back to the culture. We have gotten a way from substance, the message, storytelling and consequences. A lot of the music of today lacks those qualities and the entry level of being a rapper has been lowered to the point of being non-existent. I often tell artist you should want to be what’s next, instead of a replica of what is now. Today’s artist needs to be more eager to set the trend, not follow it. All in all though you still tip your hat off to the Kendrick Lamars, Jay Electronica, J Cole, etc artist of those caliber who have stayed true to the art form and who continue to push the envelope. Kartie: The album “Flyer than I use to be” is it becoming the epic album you vision? 100K: Flyer Than I Use To Be is pretty much a project I chose to do to say hey! Im back and Im still in love with music. I wanted to have fun on this project and that’s exactly what I did. My friends and colleagues were excited and eager as well as you will see by the number of features I have on it. They wanted to be apart of this project and that made me feel good. It’s a dope project I put a lot of time effort into and I think the fans will see and hear that when they get their hands on it. Kartie: Your advice to the young upcoming artisT? 100K: I would tell artist to stop being artist and become businessmen learn the business, one of the easiest things to do is get in the studio and create music, but you are dealing with and industry that is 5% music if that and the rest is all business. Learn about copyrights, publishing and knowing the difference between the two. Educate your self on the pros and cons of signing to a major label versus staying independent in today’s digital climate. Stay true to who you are and never feel as though you have to be something other whom you are to make it. Choose the road less traveled, create a path where there isn’t one.

Maddnessis laced with reality base situations he has truly seen to making music from the heart. During his journey in gaining the respect as a talented independent artist from the District of Columbia, SE, he stays true to his calling by continuing to represent those in the struggle searching for a positive way out while maintaining one’s soul. Maddness won many talent shows, completed his first CD and several mixtapes at an early age. In the 90’s at an event hosted by Steph Luvaand DJ Flexxof 93.9, he won $500 prize at the contest out of approximately 87 contestants at the Crossroads Night Club in Maryland.
