Chapel Hill was named after the New Hope Chapel, which stood upon a hill at the crossing of two primary roads and where, today, The Carolina Inn currently stands.
It is home to our nation’s first state university — The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill—which opened

its doors in 1795 and which provides a continuous color ( the light blue one) to the town’s personality.
Chapel Hill is a walkable town with numerous trails and parks.

The main drag through downtown is Franklin Street, named after Benjamin Franklin for his stance on education. You’ll find boutiques, coffee shops, book stores, many restaurants with sidewalk dining, live music, colorful murals and a local public food market.
West Franklin Street is home to Carolina Square, CURRENT ArtSpace + Studio and 140 West.
