CAMPER GRANADA _Joaquin Torres and Rafael Llamazares / A-cero

Recently, a store of 50m² located on one of the most important commercial street of Granada, has been renovated by the architects A-cero. It is the first store in Granada for the Spanish leading shoe brand Camper. The Granada store used to be an apparel shop partially abandoned, and is now dominated by red and white, as representative colours of the A-cero interior design projects and Camper’s image. The space is open and projected with organic elements like the expositors, made of lacquered wood with white shelves and red face, having an indirect lighting by LED lights. Also, following the floor shapes, there is a red and white Bolon. Adding more sculptural value to the complex, in the middle there is another module curve used as a breach change. To achieve more depth, there is a mirror at the rear wall and also a space for storage at the back. The front is made of composite panel with red aluminium, and the showcase has been made of glass and red vinyl following the style of the store. The final result is an interesting fusion between the corporative resources and designs of Camper and A-cero. This is a special place that improves the market value of the area and where you can feel the universe of Camper and A-cero.

MARTIAN EMBASSY _LAVA (Laboratory for Visionary Architecture)

A ‘Martian Embassy’ was designed by LAVA (Laboratory for Visionary Architecture) for The Sydney Story Factory, a creative writing centre for young people. It is an immersive space of oscillating plywood ribs brought to life by red planet light and sound projections. The design is a fusion of a whale, a rocket and a time tunnel – inspired by the stuff great stories are made of – Moby Dick, H. G. Wells’ Time Machine and 2001: A Space Odyssey by Stanley Kubrick.

Blacksheep decided to give the restaurant a New York loft feel, combining wood and metalwork accents with a pared-down aesthetic.

NANDO‛S ASHFORD _Blacksheep

Having previously carried out two refurbishments for the restaurant chain Nando’s (in Soho and Southampton), Blacksheep was commissioned to create a site-specific design for its new branch in Ashford, Kent. The brief was to design a concept space that steered the client away from the traditional Nando’s design and put a Blacksheep signature style and twist on the well known and loved chicken restaurant. The client wanted to attract a more mid market customer base and move away from a mass market centred business structure. The client had a clear idea of audience, however

RESTAURANT / BAR

the challenge was that the location was in a remote leisure park that already attracts a certain type of clientele and has a variety of competing restaurants in the vicinity. Secondly, the building, formerly one half of a nightclub, was a vast and cavernous shell, which had too much space – the height was reduced from 10m to 7m to form a more workable area. Blacksheep opened up the frontage and created an eye-catching façade using diagonal strips of oak accompanied by metal outdoor furniture with Iroko table-tops. Taking into account the scale of the interior – 10m-high ceilings and a total area of 380m² – Blacksheep

decided to give the restaurant a New York loft feel, combining wood and metalwork accents with a pared-down aesthetic. To make the space feel more intimate, Blacksheep installed a raised platform with booth seating and bespoke timber latticework, as well as designing huge custom made light shades. Blacksheep also created a large-scale bespoke artwork, in the style of Southern African Ndebele tribe, using thousands of painted wooden dowels. Bold and iconic, it hangs in pride of place as you enter the restaurant.

Makoto Tojiki’s work has long been associated with light, given his strong belief in the power of the visual spectrum to recreate the images of human memory. Clé de Peau Beauté, celebrating its 30th Anniversary, hosted an art spectacular, L’art de la Radiance exhibition in Hong Kong. Specially created for this one-night-only exhibition encompassing the realms of art, fashion and design, Makoto’s creation is a unique light sculpture, featuring a young girl and a flight of doves to evoke the fleeting passage of time together with the eternal nature of feminine beauty. Walking through this lissome light, a young girl’s hopes and dreams are building. She accumulates wisdom and insight. Now is the moment for everyone to stop and look back upon the past, to pause and appreciate the moment before searching for higher beauty which, in truth, has already been found.

NAVER LINE SQUARE _Urbantainer Co., Ltd. and NHN Corp.

EXHIBITION / SHOWROOM

This is a ‘delivery box’ concept. In May 2012, a giant international post box was delivered to 2012 Yeosu Expo’s site. This oversized shipment box is Urbantainer’s visualisation of globalism. The box is an interactive offline experience project for showcasing LINE, Naver’s smart phone messenger app. The box’s interior is designed using pop-up boxes that transform the traditional 2D interface of a smart phone application into a 3D spatial experience. Visitors are able to walk into this giant box and experience LINE in real-life space. The three main

elements of this offline experience are LINE’s ‘Friends Management System’, ‘Sticker Chatting’ and ‘Weather Helper & Japanese Translator’ features. These three experiences work together and tell a story. LINE’s human-sized sticker characters guide visitors to install the app and become their LINE friends, offering sticker chatting tutorials. The smart box feature helps with weather and Japanese translation. Lastly, a pop-up world map visualises LINE’s worldwide usage along with a commercial film advertisement from Naver.

CHINA CENTRAL TELEVISION HEADQUARTERS

The CCTV Headquarters aims at an alternative to the exhausted typology of the skyscraper. Instead of competing in the race for ultimate height and style within a traditional two-dimensional tower ‘soaring’ skyward, CCTV’s loop poses a truly three-dimensional experience, culminating in a 75m cantilever. The building is visible from most of Beijing. It sometimes comes across big and sometimes small, from some angles strong and from others soft.

THE LOOP CCTV’s form facilitates the combination of the entire process of TV-making in a loop of interconnected activities. Two towers rise from a common production studio platform, the Plinth. Each tower has a different character: Tower 1 serves as an editing area and offices, and the lower Tower 2 is dedicated to news broadcasting. They are joined by a cantilevering bridge for administration, the Overhang.

The 10,000m² main lobby, in Tower 1, is an atrium stretching three floors underground, and three floors above the ground. It has a direct connection with Beijing’s subway network, and will be the arrival and departure hub for the 10,000 workers inside CCTV Headquarters. Connected to the lobby, 12 studios, the largest of which is 2,000m², perform the main function of the building: TV-making.
