A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR Now, the show you are about to see was originally performed by a cast of four individuals in the spring of 2012, a time much different than we are in now. A flexible version of Now. Here. This. was created to allow theatres, schools, and institutions to adapt this show in a way that fits their needs, with permission to customize the material and increase cast size. It is perfect for theatre programs like this one, with a fantastic collection of young artists who all deserve to be celebrated both onstage and off for their individuality, bravery, and authenticity. These young artists who have been navigating uncertain times with positivity and grace, who decided to add more screen time to their long days to be a part of this production. These young artists who are creating the future of theatre. Here, at North Broward Preparatory School in the fall of 2020, we have been given the opportunity to produce theatre during a time when we need it most. A time when we’ve been isolated with nothing but hours to reflect on the past, where we were a year ago, where we were “supposed to be” now. A time that has felt like minutes and years at the same time. A time when experiencing something together, like theatre, looks a bit differently, but is still the most powerful way to unite a group of people and imitate something we all can relate to no matter where we are: life. The cast has been rehearsing both virtually and in-person to create the show you are about to see. As a result, we have several virtual elements integrated throughout our production to represent what it was like during the “now here this,” and our moment in the universe. This wonderful, heartfelt, nostalgic show takes us through the dawn of time and a series of autobiographical stories inspired by real events in the writer's lives; stories that spawned conversations with the cast relating to moments that we have experienced in our own lives. Memories of our childhoods, dreams and fantasies, the highs and lows of simply going through life. We have learned the power of being in the present moment, appreciating what we have, and being willing to take risks and go along for the ride. Our time on this planet is a gift, and I feel lucky to have been a part of this moment with this group of people. Thank you to Tiffany Lutz, Michelle Moore, and the North Broward administration for all of their support and guidance. None of this would have been possible without the precise work of our music director, Paul Tine, who went above and beyond navigating the puzzle that was putting this show together. There is a line from one of the stories called the Golden Palace that reads: “The Golden Palace is anywhere we make it. It’s anywhere we want to make anything we want to make… and there’s room for all of us.” Welcome to our Golden Palace, and enjoy Now. Here.This. Kimmi Johnson, Director

WELCOME
Bruce Fawcett (Head of School)
At North Broward Preparatory School it is our mission to enable students to immerse in work that is meaningful and connected to their passions. We see these connections being made in our classrooms, on our athletic fields, and certainly within our myriad fine arts programs. The pursuit of excellence in fine arts can be transformative for students. Disciplines that are developed and skills that are deepened can shape life trajectories for all participants, not just those who will ultimately pursue a career in the fine arts. As I reflect on my own education, learning to create art both in physical and digital formats taught me to look at the world through multiple lenses. Standing on stage and running lines helped me understand the connection between excellence and persistence. Honing a line in a poem helped me understand the power of a wellcrafted message. All of these lessons have impacted my life in positive and unexpected ways. Beyond the purely practical aspect, fine arts in their various forms expand our world view, build empathy, aesthetic appreciation, gratitude, and help us more fully engage with our world and each other. As a community, we believe that when students are passionate about and committed to their own development, their knowledge and skills are impactful well beyond the classroom. I am looking forward to the many evenings spent enjoying the NBPS student work on display throughout the year. I am confident that I will, alongside you, laugh, cheer, applaud, hold my breath, and even shed a tear. We have so much to look forward to as a community. Sincerely, Bruce Fawcett Head of School

WELCOME
Chris Petruzzi (Fine Arts Director)
On behalf of the Fine Arts Department, I’m honored to welcome you to this evening’s production of Now. Here. This. I’m so proud of the students and faculty whose dedication and enthusiastic efforts brought this exceptional production to life. It is a clear testament to the many hours of creative and joyful rehearsal that went into preparing for today’s performance. Through this process, it is deeply rewarding to witness our children grow creatively, academically, and in self-concept. While I’m confident that tonight you will be thoroughly entertained, for us the journey is equally important and central to our school’s mission of accelerating each student’s academic achievement and personal growth. We are grateful to be able to offer these life changing opportunities to our children. I’d also like to take this occasion to thank the many supporters who contributed so much to this evening’s success.
Chris
