WELCOME Over the past five weeks, our students have worked diligently to prepare scenes from operas, operettas, and classical musical theater works. We have put together this pastiche of scenes ranging from 1642 to 2013 and sung in four languages. All of this music was learned and rehearsed over the internet and we believe the students have achieved something truly special, even with the present obstacles. Each student recorded the audio for their scene in a recording studio, individually, and then we filmed them outdoors as they lip-synced all of their music to the previously recorded audio. Following health and safety guidelines were our top priority, but as art always does, the students allowed the music and their performances to shine through the sociallydistanced process that we undertook. The result of their hard work is beautiful, albeit different, and it is my hope that these performances warm your heart, make you laugh, and remind us all of the power of music.

Daniel Bates, Director Daniel Bates is a Voice Teacher and Opera Director at North Broward Preparatory. This is his 6th production with North Broward, having previously directed Cendrillon, Gianni Schicchi, Hansel and Gretel, Le Nozze di Figaro, and a double-bill of The Telephone and Old Maid and the Thief. As an operatic performer, Daniel has proven himself to be a rising talent, recognized for his passionate and emotional singing. This season Daniel will be returning to Shreveport Opera and Ithaca Opera. Last season, Daniel made his international debut with Israeli Opera in The Passenger. He sang with the Syracuse Opera, and performed concerts with Symphoria, Arts at Grace, and the Binghamton Downtown Singers. Recently, Daniel performed with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Anchorage Opera, the Imperial Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes, and First Coast Opera. Daniel has been a young artist at Florida Grand Opera, the Santa Fe Opera, Shreveport Opera, Opera Saratoga and Utah Festival Opera. He performed the world premiere roles in Cold Mountain at Santa Fe Opera and on the live recording which was nominated for a Grammy. Daniel has received distinguished awards from the Sullivan Foundation, the Giulio Gari Foundation, the NSAL Vocal Competition, and the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.

WELCOME

Bruce Fawcett, Head of School

At North Broward Preparatory School it is our mission to enable students to immerse in work that is meaningful and connected to their passions. We see these connections being made in our classrooms, on our athletic fields, and certainly within our myriad fine arts programs. The pursuit of excellence in fine arts can be transformative for students. Disciplines that are developed and skills that are deepened can shape life trajectories for all participants, not just those who will ultimately pursue a career in the fine arts. As I reflect on my own education, learning to create art both in physical and digital formats taught me to look at the world through multiple lenses. Standing on stage and running lines helped me understand the connection between excellence and persistence. Honing a line in a poem helped me understand the power of a wellcrafted message. All of these lessons have impacted my life in positive and unexpected ways. Beyond the purely practical aspect, fine arts in their various forms expand our world view, build empathy, aesthetic appreciation, gratitude, and help us more fully engage with our world and each other. As a community, we believe that when students are passionate about and committed to their own development, their knowledge and skills are impactful well beyond the classroom. I am looking forward to the many evenings spent enjoying the NBPS student work on display throughout the year. I am confident that I will, alongside you, laugh, cheer, applaud, hold my breath, and even shed a tear. We have so much to look forward to as a community. Sincerely, Bruce Fawcett Head of School

WELCOME

Chris Petruzzi, Fine Arts Director

On behalf of the Fine Arts Department, I'm honored to welcome you to our Opera program's production of Too Hot to Handel. North Broward Preparatory School's productions are always notable, but I'm incredibly grateful this year for the many creative, quality opportunities that our artists have been afforded (like this one) to safely and fully engage in the art they love. Congratulations to our young artists and dedicated faculty who have given many hours of creative and joyful rehearsal to bring this exceptional production to life. It is gratifying to witness them continue to grow artistically, creatively, academically, and in self-concept through their work together. I'd also like to take this occasion to thank the many supporters who contributed so much to this evening's success.
