The event saw £3,000 worth of turkeys donated and £2558.74 received in direct donations to The Well.
In 2020, The Well (a Wolverhampton food bank) raised funds by organising a running race. Like many other races during the pandemic, in-person events were cancelled; however, The Well organised a virtual race called The Turkey Trot.
R
unners, joggers and walkers could complete a 5-mile virtual race, which could take place anywhere in the world. A number of different people came together to arrange the virtual race, including Chris Short, CEO of Concept Resourcing, Kellie Green from Avara Foods, Richard Preston from Wolves and Bilston, and artist and runner Adam Guy. Competitors could join the race, which took place over a period of three weeks,
by completing a 5-mile GPS route that encompassed the canals of Wolverhampton. Alternatively, competitors outside the local area could run 5 miles anywhere in the world, documented with a photograph. All proceeds went to The Well, helping to provide food for local people struggling to buy food to feed themselves and their families. The event saw £3,000 worth of turkeys donated and £2558.74 received in direct donations to The Well.
