MUSIC AT THE CATHEDRAL Please visit our website, www.ccclex.org, to learn more about the Cathedral’s music program and to hear new recordings of the Cathedral Choirs. In addition to the services listed in this brochure, the Cathedral Choirs sing weekly at the 8:30 and 11:00am Sunday services. The music program at Christ Church Cathedral exists in order to offer the highest praises to God, to support the ongoing mission of the congregation and to enhance the cultural life of the community. You are invited and welcome to participate in the worship, education and fellowship of the Cathedral. We invite you to share this brochure with family and friends by way of extending this invitation. Christ Church Cathedral has for 50 years supported and sustained choirs trained in the English Cathedral tradition. Unique in its depth and breadth, instruction for the boys, girls and teens is based on the curriculum of the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM). Children and youth deepen their sense of history, liturgy, language and art as well as their ability to interpret sacred texts
and music. Through the ongoing effort of learning and working together, they also develop friendships and become part of a community that uplifts collective and individual efforts. Christ Church Cathedral choristers learn what it is to be at the heart of vibrant worship. During the summer of 2012, the Choir of Men and Boys and the Cathedral Girls Choir traveled to England and Scotland, where they sang for two weeks at Ely Cathedral and Saint Mary’s Cathedral, Edinburgh. In 2009, the choirs traveled to England, where they sang a 10-day residency at Lincoln Cathedral and additional services at Saint Albans Cathedral. We regard these trips as enhancements of our regular program of weekly services, rehearsals and concerts here in Lexington, and thank you for your continued support. In 2014 the choirs return to England, where they will sing in residence at York Minster and Durham Cathedral. Membership in the Cathedral Girls Choir is open to all girls ages 8 through 18. Membership in the Cathedral Boys Choir is open to all boys ages 7 through voice change.
We also offer a choir for those younger; than age 8: Cathedral Imps (beginning at age 4 or 5 through age 7). Boys and girls develop their singing voices and begin their music-reading skills at an age-appropriate level. Our mixed adult choir, the Cathedral Singers, sings throughout the summer months and several times throughout the academic year. Our Women’s Choir, Cathedral Schola, sings a Celtic Eucharist once per month during the academic year. You are cordially invited to become a part of the Cathedral music program. Please contact Canon Musician Erich Balling at 859-254-4497, Ext. 117 for more membership information. Thank you for your interest in music at Christ Church Cathedral. We look forward to welcoming you to our services and other events this coming year.
