with music in the Celtic tradition

Find Sanctuary at 6:00 Sunday evenings at Christ Church Cathedral. Sanctuary is a place and time of deep peace, heartwarming music of the Celtic tradition, votive candles, contemplation, communion and worship. Sanctuary is where you can feel close to God, find peace of mind and heart, and bring into focus your purpose and place in the world. Sanctuary is worship that gives both solace and strength in the joy of Holy Eucharist. Sanctuary is followed by a simple meal. Sanctuary takes a break during July and December, but is every Sunday throughout the rest of the year.

MUSIC AT THE CATHEDRAL

P

lease visit our website, www.ccclex.org, to learn more about the Cathedral’s music program and to hear new recordings of the Cathedral Choirs. In addition to the services listed in this brochure, the Cathedral Choirs sing weekly at the 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. Sunday services. The music program at Christ Church Cathedral exists in order to adorn the liturgy, to edify and educate the congregation, and to enhance the cultural life of the community. You are invited and welcome to participate in the worship, education and fellowship of the Cathedral. We invite you to share this brochure with family and friends by way of extending this invitation. Christ Church Cathedral has for many decades supported and sustained choirs trained in the English Cathedral tradition. Unique in its depth and breadth, instruction for the boys, girls and teens is based on the curriculum of the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM). Children and youth deepen their sense of history, liturgy, language and art as well as their ability to interpret sacred texts and music. Through the ongoing effort of learning and working together, they also develop friendships and become part of a community that uplifts collective and individual efforts. Christ Church Cathedral

choristers learn what it is to be at the heart of vibrant worship. During the summer of 2014, the Choir of Men and Boys and the Cathedral Girls Choir traveled to England where they sang in residency at York Minster and Saint George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. We regard these trips as enhancements of our regular program of weekly services, rehearsals, and occasional concerts here in Lexington and invite you to share in our enthusiastic preparations for this journey. Membership in the Cathedral Girls Choir is open to all girls ages eight through eighteen. Membership in the Cathedral Boys Choir is open to all boys ages seven through voice change. We also offer a choir for those younger than age eight: The Cathedral Imps (beginning at age 4 or 5 through age7). Our mixed adult choir, the Cathedral Singers, sings throughout the summer months and several times throughout the academic year. Our Women’s Choir, Cathedral Schola, sings once per month and for special services during the academic year. You are cordially invited to become a part of the Cathedral music program. Please contact Canon Musician, Erich Balling at 859-254-4497 ext. 117 for more membership information.
