WHY BUILD DIFFERENT? As cities continue to emerge and expand, the world is at a tipping point. The current ways of production and consumption are putting an unsustainable strain on the natural resources, temperature and biodiversity of this planet. In construction, buildings account for nearly 40% of all energy-related CO2 emissions. The +Pavilion exhibition seeks to unpack what a sustainable built environment entails, and how thoughtful design can ensure that buildings serve their communities’ needs while building a better and greener future.
THE GENESIS In May 2021, Haring Timber Technology was invited by the organisers of Archifest21 to speak on sustainable and innovative wood construction and applications. Believing that this topic deserved to be expanded into a larger discourse on sustainable construction, they quickly assembled a team of like-minded partners, including Deloitte Center for the Edge, Affordable Abodes, Studio SKLIM, and the Embassy of Switzerland in Singapore. With the onboarding of several more
synergistic partners, including Hilti Singapore and EHL Campus (Singapore), it became an integral part of the ongoing Swiss Weeks in Singapore, starting in Spring 2022.
+Pavilion kicked off with a well-received workshop on innovative sustainable design solutions in conjunction with Archifest21. Over the next half a year, new partners Vitra, Nespresso and UBS came on board. This coalition of partners –large and small, private and non-profit –then put their minds and hands together to take +Pavilion to the next level. The sum of their efforts is what you will see at Marina Barrage: the first big event, post-pandemic, to be graciously hosted by PUB Singapore. VISIT THE +PAVILION EXHIBITION +Pavilion offers information, recreation and stimulation for the whole family. Little ones can play with elephant swing furniture made of recycled plastic and rattan and explore the enchanted forest made of cork, while adults can enjoy an experiential walk through the +Pavilion structure itself. Visitors can sit on and interact with furniture made from natural and recycled materials, and get hands-on with the earth-friendly and sustainable materials used to construct the +Pavilion structure, including glue-laminated timber, biocomposite made from the Kenaf plant, and boards made of recycled coffee. Presented in conjunction with the Swiss Weeks 2022, the physical installation at the Marina Barrage will be open to the public until 26 July 2022 at:
8 Marina Gardens Drive Marina Barrage Singapore 018951
From August 2022, +Pavilion will move to its permanent home on the EHL Campus (Singapore).
Visit +Pavilion and find out what you can do to help green our built environment and brighten the future for the next generation.
