CAFO COMMUNITY.

MORE THAN ENOUGH

More Than Enough is a community united by our faith and committed to helping churches care for children and families in foster care. Together, we are determined to achieve our shared vision of more than enough for children and families before, during, and beyond foster care in every US county. The More Than Enough Community is facilitated by CAFO, which supports the Community to multiply on-the-ground care for children and families.

The Community pursues a shared strategy to provide more than enough loving homes for every child in foster care—including foster, adoptive, and supported biological families. Drawing on tools and practices that are serving children and families well across the US, we meet the specific needs within our communities. We believe that local networks of passionate churches, organizations, and advocates working together can address the biggest gaps in caring for children and families in every one of the 3,142 counties in the US.

As part of the More Than Enough Community, you’ll find the resources and support you need to multiply the impact of your time, people, and funding. You can get started with the resources below.

THE MORE THAN ENOUGH VISION STARTER GUIDE

The Vision Starter Guide equips you to cast a vision of more than enough in your community and rally others to care for children and families before, during, and beyond foster care. From a worksheet to help you contextualize the vision for your community to example content for marketing pieces, get started at communicating the vision where you live.

THE MORE THAN ENOUGH PODCAST

The More Than Enough Podcast connects you to people, ideas, and tools that will help you and your community work together to move from not enough to more than enough for children and families where you live.

NATIONAL CHURCH MINISTRY INITIATIVE

The National Church Ministry Initiative (NCMI) exists to equip, connect, and support churches as they launch and lead effective foster care, adoption, and family support ministries. The NCMI serves and supports churches and organizations nationwide, including 900+ CAFO member churches and 200+ member organizations, through best-in-class resourcing, customized coaching, and cohort based learning on effective principles and practices for impactful engagement.

FOR YOUR ORGANIZATION

Does your organization engage and mobilize churches? In collaboration with CAFO’s More Than Enough Initiative, the NCMI comes alongside organizations and local networks to empower and equip them to effectively engage and mobilize churches. Consider how your organization can both give to and receive from this work. What resources or effective practices can you offer other organizations in the CAFO community who are working to form strategic relationships with churches? As well, resources and coaching from the NCMI are available for your team to help you with church engagement, partnership, resourcing, and mobilization of churches in your work.

The new Effectively Engaging Churches book helps your team consider principles and practices for partnering well with churches.

FOR YOUR CHURCH

From courses to cohorts to coaching, there’s a place for you to find the resources and relationships you need to help your church take its next best steps forward in ministry. Access the one-of-a-kind “Church Ministry Essentials” ondemand learning platform consisting of 10 modules on launching and leading a foster care, adoption, and family support ministry in your church. Read the short “Everyone Can Do Something” book full of insight, ideas, and implementable next steps you can take in your ministry. Participate in a group learning cohort with other church-based ministry leaders where you can ask questions, share insights, and glean wisdom from others doing similar work as you. Or, get even more personal by engaging in a coaching session with a seasoned church ministry leader who can help you gain the clarity and confidence you need to lead and scale the ministry opportunities God has entrusted to you. Wherever you are on your journey, CAFO’s National Church Ministry Initiative stands ready to help. Visit cafo.org/church to learn more.

RESEARCH CENTER

The Center on Applied Research for Vulnerable Children and Families exists to equip faith-based organizations around the world with the knowledge and practice they need to see vulnerable children and families thrive. The Center facilitates many opportunities for leaders and staff of organizations both to receive and to share highly-relevant learning. This includes the annual Research and Best Practice Symposium in September, original research and papers published by the Center in academic journals, webinars, certificate courses, peer learning cohorts, Spanish-language resources, and much more!

CORE ELEMENTS

CAFO provides a free, 30-minute online self-assessment survey to any organization caring for vulnerable children in international contexts. It will help you keep your finger on the pulse of your organization’s health, reveal your program’s areas of strength, identify where there’s room to improve, and provide an opportunity to invite others to join your efforts.

This self-assessment (comparable to a retail value of several hundred dollars) is free of charge to members and can be accessed HERE.

CAFO member organizations receive exclusive:

• Interpretation of your survey results by experienced professionals for each category.

• Record-keeping of your previous self-assessment scores.

• Annual analysis of your growth trends.

• Access to step-by-step training modules that can help your program move from zero understanding to basic implementation in case management, child protection, monitoring & evaluation, and more.

With these tools, you can improve the quality of care you provide, communicate with funders and other key stakeholders, and use scores to track your organization’s health over time. We are all on a journey toward better care for vulnerable children and families, together!

ORPHAN SUNDAY & STAND SUNDAY

What began in a small church in Zambia (Orphan Sunday, 2002) and another small church in Brownwood, Texas (Stand Sunday, 2004) is now a worldwide day of prayer and advocacy on the second Sunday in November - serving as a catalyst for changing children’s lives through year-round church-led community action in more than 120 countries. CAFO unites Christians worldwide by providing free Orphan Sunday and Stand Sunday toolkits - including graphics, postcards, posters, videos, and more, that can be adapted for locally-led events.

Whether working globally or domestically, CAFO Members can use Orphan Sunday and Stand Sunday as a catalyst to inspire your supporters and engage local churches in your mission.

VIBRANT LEADERSHIP SPRINGS FROM HEALTHY SOULS

Jesus put it simply: good trees bear good fruit. The fruitfulness of your ministry hinges on nothing more than the health of you and your team. That’s why CAFO puts a premium on helping leaders “grow down,” developing practices that build deep health in body, mind, spirit and relationships.

SPIRITUAL FORMATION

The Spiritual Formation Calendar Experience makes it easy for leaders and their teams to explore biblically-rooted practices of spiritual formation. Each month’s content includes a short guide and video on one formation practice, an exploratory exercise, and questions to help teams process their experiences together. This guided experience, valued at $99 for an organization/team, is being offered to leaders of CAFO member organizations/churches in 2023 for FREE! It is our gift to help teams grow more like Jesus together.

THE SOUL & STRATEGY RETREAT

The annual Soul & Strategy Retreat is for the CEOs/EDs of CAFO member organizations and their spouses. It’s designed to cultivate deep refreshment, spiritual health, and meaningful peer friendships – and also to share vision and practical means to help leaders care well for the teams they lead.
