This publication summarizes the results of three international design workshops organized in 2012, 2013 and 2014 in the framework of the regional development project for the Wijers in Limburg (Belgium). The design research
realised in these workshops formulated spatial visions that simultaneously were tested by means of development strategies and ultimately resulted in a frame, a spatial structure that can give direction to and can safeguard quality of further spatial developments in the area. The frame was generated, how would it otherwise be, by the interplay of the natural and the cultural landscape. This publication synthesizes this design work.
