a message from
our chair I have the honor and privilege of being the 2016-2017 Chairman of the Board for the LAX Coastal Chamber of Commerce. As the 64th Chairman, I have some pretty big shoes to fill. This organization has been blessed with such tremendous leadership over the years and I enter this position excited to continue our legacy of being the core of business for this region. This year marks the 75th Anniversary of Westchester, where the seeds of this Chamber were first planted. As we celebrate our vibrant history, I can’t help but reflect upon the changes that have occurred in the LAX Coastal community. Our area is rich with business. From aerospace and aviation to academics and hospitality, these industries have helped our city grow and flourish. While these industries have been the foundation of our business community, we continue to evolve. With the rise of Silicon Beach, a new and improved LAX, a new NFL team and stadium, a new transportation system that connects our area, the LAX coastal area is located in the epicenter of activity in one of the most dynamic regions in the world. I have been active in this community for over two decades and I could not be more excited about leading this vibrant business organization. I am looking forward to leading the Chamber and continuing its rich tradition of excellence.

LAX COASTAL FROM SOAR TO SAND
The LAX Coastal community is in the midst of progress, and what an exciting time it is! The economic engine that is the Los Angeles World Airport is receiving a long overdue upgrade. As the 2nd busiest airport in the country and the 7th busiest airport in the world, this community asset remained static for far too long and is now finally undergoing the face lift it needs to become a world-class airport. Our Marina, which first opened over 50 years ago, is also seeing some significant improvements and much-needed restoration projects. And across the way, the tech hub within Playa Vista continues to attract some of the most reputable companies in the world. Each day, our community grows stronger. Through professional relationships, business growth, and endless potential, the LAX Coastal region is in the midst of change. Progress is here, and we are proud to be at its epicenter. *The following is demographical information about the LAX Coastal area from the 2010 US Census and 2012 American Community Survey

infrastructure at LAX. With over $4.11 billion in completed or ongoing projects,

and billions more planned in the future to complete the vision, modernization at LAX is easily the largest public works project in the history of the City of Los Angeles. And this massive investment is being made with no tax dollars from the City’s general fund.
Wetlands Restoration Plan – Parcel 9U In 1984 a construction project was started but never finished in Marina del Rey, leaving behind an undeveloped parcel of wetland that has decayed over time. Roughly 3.8 acres in size, a rehabilitation project has been proposed to heal the wetland area through reshaping the land, removing any non-native species, and establishing a native coastal salt marsh habitat. This will not only enhance the aesthetics of the parcel, but will also provide an educational opportunity for the public to learn more about this type of habitat and the plant species that live within it, such as coastal sage scrub and maritime chaparral.

CITY OF LOS ANGELES
LAX Coastal improvements Facebook at playa jefferson campus With technology titans such as YouTube and Yahoo already located inside Playa Vista, it should come as no surprise to hear that other companies are following suit. Playa Jefferson, a creative office campus, recently welcomed Omnicom and IPG to Building C and have big plans for new and current tenants with a 4-1/2 story parking structure and Building E in the works, along with a ground breaking for a 55,000-square-foot development, the new home of a Facebook office.
LMU Master plan Approved by the LA City Council in 2011, Loyola Marymount University’s Master Plan is being used to guide the university’s development over the next two decades. Through this Master Plan, LMU will not only upgrade educational, research, recreational and housing facilities, but they will also reduce water, electricity, and natural gas consumption, allowing more undergraduates the chance to live on campus and improve the pedestrian experience within campus grounds.

the community welcomed yet another big name into the neighborhood in December of 2014. Google, the tech titan, spent nearly $120 million on 12-acres of vacant land next to a historic hangar where aviator Howard Hughes built his famous “Spruce Goose.” The land is zoned for nearly 900,000-square-feet of commercial space that could house offices or studios, vastly more room than Google now occupies in a handful of buildings in Los Angeles County.
oxford basin project Originally built in 1959 to help mitigate flood risks, the Oxford Retention Basin is a man-made basin located at the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Oxford Avenue. Due for improvements, this land has been used for multiple purposes over the years and the decision that something must be done to improve and redevelop the site’s biodiversity was welcomed by many community leaders. The Oxford Basin Multi-Use Enhancement Project is estimated at approximately $14.5 million and was completed in the spring of 2016. It will feature enhanced flood control functions, improved habitat and water quality and new recreation and safety amenities. www.laxcoastal.com | LAX Coastal 2016 Annual Report | 7
