iHealth /APP DESIGN BRIEF: The purpose of this App is to modify the life style of white collars and solve their health problems. Based on the main health problems, iHealth has the functions of making health plans, set-time broadcasting, recording physical conditions, real-time monitoring and socializing. Besides, an external device is available which can facilitate the realization of health. PERSONAL PROJECT JUL. 2014


Problem Analysis There are more and more white collars suffering from a lot of health problems, such as psychological diseases, cervical spondylopathy, obesity, stomach diseases and etc. How to help white collars and keep them away from these health problems is the goal of my project. Research According to a research on Chinese white collars’ health conditions by iResearch Consulting Group, white collars had a relatively lower satisfaction of their health conditions and always struggled with the impact of health problems.

There were 38.0% white collars suffering from sports system problems, such as cervical vertebra. There were many white collars suffering from digestive system problems, such as sintenstines and stomach and nervous system problems, such as insomnia.


Data Analysis According to this research, I find that most white collars did not pay enough attention to the health problems let along taking actions. Using an easy way to help them improve the health conditions without taking too much time is the core of the user requirement.

There were more than 50% white collars quitting to take actions to modify their health conditions. It’s surprising that up to 17.7% of them thought these health problems were normal.

In this project, I focused on solving the five common health problems-neck, shoulder and psoas ache, stomach diseases, eye strain, isomnia, and obesity.

Effectively stretch the tight neck and avoid neck diseases. Eat a balanced diet on time everyday and replenish nutrition. Relieve from isomnia and get entirely relaxed before sleeping. Be reminded of drinking water, doing eye exercise and stretching at intervals. Reduce the fat accumulation and do proper exercise. Monitor the health conditions and body movements in real time. Encourage friends mutually to keep on the health schedule.

Easy tutorial is offered to show users how to stretch stiff muscles in a right way. According to the user’s preference, provide a balanced diet recipe. Before sleeping, users could listen to light music to relieve their pressures. The alerting function would remind users at any time set by themselves. Give sports recommendation and remind on time; record body-import and export. Be equipped with an external device which could detect heart rate, steps and etc. With a social platform users could share their health plans and progress.

Testing

After finishing hi-fi prototype, I invited some potential users to try to use it. The testing included two parts. - The first part was to test the rationality of the task flows, including adding to-do-list, checking statistics and sharing statistics, and the interactive mode. The first and second lines displayed this part of testing. - The second part is to confirm the rationality of the layouts and assure that the icons are easy to tap. The last line displayed this part of testing.


Principle Smart ring is an external device of iHealth App. The data measured by the device can be delivered to the App in real time through bluetooth. When the measured heart rate or anxiety degree are abnormal or it is time to remind the user, the smart ring would flash and shake, at the same time, the phone would receive a push.

Ceremony/KINECT GAME BRIEF: This kinect game was inspired by Japanese Tea Ceremony. The interactive mode was designed according to the standard operation during the process of tea ceremony. This kinect game brings users fun and knowledge about the core of tea culture.

Inspiration Board

Interaction The combination of kinect and tea ceremony means that the interactive mode should take the characteristics of the interaction with kinect and of the real process of tea ceremony into consideration. The interaction with kinect is not like that with a smart phone. The former one is relatively imprecise, therefore the operation should be easier and more fluent.

Interface The interface design was greatly inspired by the primitive tea set and the traditional Japanese design style.


Task Flow After collecting enough materials of Japanese Tea Ceremony, I made a skeleton of the process, listed the utensils needed in every phase and established an evaluation standard according to the real operation standard.

With the kinect technology, players could take part in the process of tea ceremony in the most authentic way. The scoring system helps to give players effective feedbacks, therefore increases the interaction between the player and the system.


Smart Library System / INTERNET OF THINGS

BRIEF: This smart library system consists of a smart bookshelf, a built-in pad and a smart-phone App. This system aims at solving problems people always come across when reading a book or using the bookshelf. There are two innovations: i. the system could automatically read the information of every book and output the book needed by the user; ii. the system includes two client-side which facilitate the user to operate on the bookshelf wherever at home or outdoors. GROUP PROJECT I was responsible for the dimension analysis, modeling and rendering, and the interface design.

From a recent research, a normal family possesses 346 books in average. With such large number, it’s too difficult for users to find certain book or tidy books.

Many people complain that they have bought many books but almost didn’t touch most of the books after buying them.

Some bookshelves are too high for users to reach a book. If users could get a book without standing from the seat, it will be really convenient.

The design of most bookshelves is boxy and lacks the sense of design. And the boxy modeling design shows a neglect of man-machine interaction.

Ideation Sketches To assure the main function of automatically outputting the needed book, we had a brainstorm of the modeling design. And we chose the final design scheme in terms of the implementation mechanism and the appearance.

Functional Details

Circular

Ring, the internal part of the bookshelf used to place books, could pivot on the orbital runway of the external part.

Lights,

on the top of the bookshelf’s inwall, could be adjusted through the Pad.

Shelves,

in each cell, could stretch out in the front in order to facilitate users to clear up books and resolve bugs.

The Desk could be put down, stretch out and draw back. There is a Pad inset in it. One Shelf would stick out to hand in a book wanted.

is a kind of Chinese traditional pattern. In this product, users could put some decorations on the fret-boards.

Background The background picture is a green leaf, informing users to protect eyes. Using the blurred background helps to highlight the main body and soften the visual effects. Logo

Visual Design

Smart-phone App has three functions. Daily Push and Reading Plan are the common functions in built-in Pad. Reservation helps users to reserve a book outside home and when coming back home they could read a book immediately. These three functions help users to have a link with bookshelf outside home. Basic Colors:

Reservation Users could firstly search the book they want to read on book name or category, registration time or historic record.

Reading Plan Reading Plan includes checking a plan and making a plan.

Daily Push The user could choose one book in daily push and the smart bookshelf would output this book.


CHINESE New Year /WEB DESIGN BRIEF: As Chinese culture widely spreads abroad, many foreigners have developed great interest in it. However, there are few websites introducing the most significant festival in China-Chinese New Year. So I chose it as a theme in my web design and introduce it from the aspects of the common sense, customs and different celebrating methods.

Analysis

After analyzing existing websites, I found some problems. i. The navigation bar is not distinguished clearly from the background. ii. In the section of picture presentation, the pictures are too small 1

and the decorations are too prominent. iii. Users should take 5 steps to browse the whole interface and go to another page. And the browsing path is not efficient. iv. The layout is too dispersive and the elements of this page are too many. Nothing is emphasized. It is difficult for users to find a starting point and acquire information effectively.

Scenery/APP DESIGN BRIEF: Everyone is eager to get close to nature. However, modern people’s life is full of work and cities are crowded with tall buildings and vehicles. Thus, people have few chances to approach nature. Based on this problem, this App uses Augmented Reality Technology (AR), making users feel as if they are in nature when taking a walk in the street, giving people a chance to get close to nature.

been increasing, most of which are young people at the age of around 30 with low incomes. The reasons are as the left. Giving them an easy access to nature is one of the effective solutions to this phenomenon.


Scenario The detailed use scenario is illustrated in the story of the persona, Christine, a young white-collar who has left form hometown for three years and always misses the natural sceneries in her hometown. The

On the main interface of the App, she could see her feet authentically. She chose the mode of “Spring� and continued walking forward. On the interface, it seemed like she was walking in a forest full of flourishing plants.

MERCURY Humidifier/PRODUCT DESIGN BRIEF: The novelty of this humidifier is that the vapor could encircle the humidifier. This function is realized through 12 spray heads which are distributed uniformly around the spherical humidifier in a 45-degree inclined plane. The vapor released by 12 spray heads looks like a beautiful ring. The pattern on the surface of this humidifier is like a sea, so this humidifier is called Mercury.
