FOOTSCRAY PARK SHELTER
A MEASURED DRAWING
2022, MELBOURNE SCHOOL OF DESIGN
Project type Park shelter
Location Footscray Park Software used Hand drawing, Photogrammetry
A transient space located on top of a hill in Footscray park, there decays the belongings of a neglected piece of architecture that maintains its symmetrical geometry since the 19th Century.
In its simple structure, I begin noticing that with careful measurements of the stone masonry columns, we can begin to see millimeter increments between the dimensions of the columns from one another - only to strengthen the material property of concrete mortar, which shrinks over time since the construction of this picnic shelter, and we can foresee its inevitable deterioration as it continues to be exposed to the weather.

DESIGN
The project attempts to respond to a design brief from my Mother. Importantly, It celebrates the lives we have now, attempting to preserve the ways in which we engage with space to mould our very characters. This is a document of the current life of the client embodied through the design brief she requested.

THE ACT OF EMBRACING DAMAGE
2019, DEAKIN UNIVERSITY
Project type
Communal
Location
Kesennuma, Japan
Software used Hand-drawn Ink on Vellum Paper, Rhino3D, Revit
The project is grounded as a response to the Tsunami and Earthquake event that occurred to the land and people of Kesennuma, Japan in 2011. It challenges the spatial configuration of two traditional Japanese programmes, by striving to integrate the two functions into the essential structure which brings about comfort and assurance, the seawall. The building presents itself overtime by acting as a barrier when a future tsunami were to return to the shores of Kesennuma.

KOI PONDS/FARMS
A home for koi fishes that sits between the ‘land’ and ‘sea’ representing its contribution to both natural contextual forces or elements.
FISHING PORTS
To encourage the ‘inevitable’ multi-purpose use of the timber platform.
KOI FARMS + SHELTERS
The ‘shelters’ closely follow the activity of the specific programmes and the required ‘spaces’ for these programmes to thrive.
The koi farm houses ‘ponds’ to store and maintain the koi fishes with a timber deck platform that runs diagonally to allow the farmers to walk through and maintain these cultural fishes.

FISHING PORT
WOODWORKING SPACES
The ‘artisans of the land’ sit parallel to their ‘artisans of the sea’ encouraging the preservation of these Japanese crafts for future industry within the land of Kesennuma.
A conceptual drawing that envisions spatial quality by documenting ‘intention’ and ‘accident’ through integrating shifting Kumiko wooden panels.
exploded axonometric
A more refined understanding of spatial quality and shelter which utilises Kumiko wooden panels as the important element towards architectural identity.

RHYTHMIC OBSTRUCTIONS AND PLAYFUL LIBERATION
2021, MELBOURNE SCHOOL OF
Project type
Educational, Community Location Hackney, East London Software used Rhino 3D, AutoCAD
DESIGN
The Academy of Electronics offers a learning and teaching place for the FOCUS E15: a community group of solo mothers and their children from squatting communities in Hackney, London.
It balances between the planes of training and teaching – as Rhythmic Obstructions; surrounded by a journey of play – as playful liberation. Central to this awakens the forum echoed to become one that belongs to all generations for voices to be heard, for protests and concerns to be said aloud: yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
