There are various types of hysterectomy. The main types of hysterectomy are

Total Hysterectomy - A total hysterectomy is the removal of the uterus and cervix. Subtotal Hysterectomy - A subtotal hysterectomy is the removal of the uterus, leaving the cervix in situ Radical Hysterectomy - This operation includes the removal of the uterus, cervix, the top portion of the vagina and most of the tissue that surrounds the cervix in the pelvic cavity.

ď śDuring the surgery, the uterus can be removed through a cut in the vagina (vaginal hysterectomy) or in the abdomen (abdominal hysterectomy), depending on the reason for the surgery.
