Copying SPSS Output to a MS Word Document Methods ONE and TWO are preferred, however, as there is a problem with copying SPSS output that needs to be resolved on some University computers, you may need to use Method THREE. Before using any method, it is best to resize your chart via the SPSS chart editor first. If you copy a chart straight from SPSS output it will be quite large and when you resize it in the Word document the quality of the image isn’t as good and the axis labels and titles tend to be much too small.

1.1 Method ONE: Copy and Paste Special 1. From the SPSS output window, Right Click on the graph, chart or table you want to copy and select Copy (Figure 1 below).

3. There should be the option to paste a picture in one of several different formats (Figure 3). I recommend choosing Picture (Enhanced Metafile) as this has the best image quality.

This option provides the best quality image.

1.2 Method TWO: Copy and Paste If you tried Method ONE and Paste Special was not available, then do a regular Paste instead.

1.3 Method THREE: Copy and Paste into Paint, then into MS Word 1. From the SPSS output window, Right Click on the graph, chart or table you want to copy and select Copy (Figure 1 above). 2. Open up the Paint application and paste your object. 3. Then cut and paste your graph, chart or table from Paint into MS Word. *The advantage to this method is that it allows you to crop and/or rearrange your output to look like you want it to in order to create a much neater (i.e., tidier) image.
