How to come in Split?

Split-Kastela airport

By air, it is certainly the easiest, fastest and cheapest solution. Different companies, throughout the year, propose tickets at good prices. For example, if you book a few months in advance, a round-trip London-Split nonstop, will cost an average of € 150, but everything will depend on the dates you choose, because once the summer ended, journeys are sometimes with stops of varying length, ranging from 1h to 22h is implying of course a much higher ticket price, then it is better to provide reading material for not finding the time too long. Croatian companies and some other offer regular flights to Split throughout the year, direct flights are usually for the summer (July and August), after all will depend of the flight plans. You can check schedules and fares of the flights on theses sites: www.easyjet.com www.croatiaairlines.com Other sites offer good fares too: www.edreams.com www.jetcost.com … But beware, these sites offer very attractive prices sometimes, but you should know that the costs associated with your flight (means of payment, baggage, seat selection ...) can heavily influence the price. So be vigilant.

-

The taxi will cost on average between 250 and 300 kuna (between 34 and 40 €) one-way; - Or take the bus Promet n°37, longest time (allow about 45 minutes instead of 25 minutes by taxi or airport shuttle) but the cost is only 17 kuna (€ 2.30). If you need to get from the airport in one of the islands or other major cities of the Adriatic coast, you can choose to go by seaplane, but at time of writing this article, we don’t know the dates, schedules and fares of the carriage. We will notify you in our next issue.

When you arrive in Split airport « Split-Kastela airport», The bus is the other way to come to Split is also one of the means of transport most used by the Croatian to go around Croatia. It is also a very safe means of transport as buses for long distances are very comfortable and very quiet and enjoy the greatest care from technical services companies. Every big city in Croatia has its own bus terminal, called "Autobusni Kolodvor" (bus station), and regular lines provide connections between major cities.

To get to Split or in different cities around (Kastela, Trogir, Solin...), you can choose to take: - The airport shuttle that takes you to the bus terminal of Split, for a cost of around 30 kuna (4 €). If you know your return date, the best solution is to take a round trip which will cost you around 40 kuna (€ 5.40);

4

The car is certainly the easiest, provided live close to the Croatian border, or less come for a vacation or an extended stay, otherwise the costs associated with gas, tolls and other expenses related at the trip will weigh down heavily on your budget and therefore reduce your holiday budget. Some data that is to get to Split or region by car from: Geneva 1206 mi - 13 Madrid 2 hours drive 458 km - 24 hr drive (This information is for guidance only, within the limits of speed and break times) London 2 041 km – 19 hr drive Paris 1 805 km – 17 hr drive Brussels 1 677 km – 16 hr drive Geneva 1 206 km – 13 hr drive Madrid 2 458 km – 24 hr drive

Off season, it is often better to take a flight to Zagreb, and then catch the bus to get to Split. It takes an average of 5 hours away, it is true that this is so long but you will discover the wonderful scenery along the way. The average cost of a one-way Zagreb-Split is 180 kn (24 €) plus an average of 7 kuna (€ 1) per bag deposited in the hold. www.ak-split.hr Site in Croatian and English

(This information is for guidance only, within the limits of speed and break times)

The boat is the other way to come to Split; ferry companies offer maritime links: Split - Ancona (Italy); Split - Dubrovnik; Split - the islands around Split (Hvar, Brac ...). If you arrive by car to the pier to go to one of the islands from Split, you should arm yourself with a little patience, but staff efficiency of shipping companies are doing everything so that you do not expect too long. Here are some sites that will interest you if you have to take a boat, whether by car or pedestrian.

The train (from Zagreb) allows you to get to Split, but the connections between cities are not as frequent as bus lines and often very long (expect between 5 and 8 hours to get from Split to Zagreb for example), but very comfortable and on time. The cost of the train ticket is almost identical to the bus. The site paths Croatian iron gives you simple and clear information www.hznet.hr Site in Croatian but pretty good translated by translators on smartphones and tablets. The Croatian railway network is very satisfactory, but there is still too little long distance voice rapidly

The saying goes that "All roads lead to Rome", we could also say that "all means are good to get to Split." Split offers a significant advantage for all travellers, which is to have the bus terminal, the train station and the ferry terminal concentrated in the same place, you need only 5 minutes to walk to be in the center of Split, the Riva and Diocletian's Palace. View of the Riva from the terminal bus

For all inquiries regarding your visit to Split, do not hesitate to send me your requests to the following email address: item.split@gmail.com I'd be happy to answer your questions and bring you the best choice possible.

DiocletianPalace The historic core of Split Built between the late 3rd century and the early 4th century by and for the Roman Emperor Diocletian, it was a fortress, a palace and a city unto itself. A UNESCO World Heritage, Diocletian palace is one of the buildings of ancient Rome's bestpreserved in Europe and worldwide. A retirement home luxury Diocletian, man of power and luxury, had ordered the construction of a palace to serve as its location where to spend his retirement, near Salona. It is in the village of Spalato that Diocletian decided its construction, on ancient ruins of Greek Aspalatos. This palace is a beautiful example of Roman architecture, where luxury reigned supreme. Built in the style of the Roman villas of the time, the best, the finest and most expensive materials were used, such as marble from Italy, the walls are built with

stone from the island of Brac, a part of the columns of the Peristyle are in Egyptian granite, red brick from Salona ... All the ingredients to make this the most beautiful palace of the province. All complemented trophies brought back by Diocletian during his conquests, two black alabaster sphinx are still visible one in perfect at the entrance to the cathedral and the other, unfortunately beheaded at the entrance of the Temple of Jupiter.

A small town

The construction of this palace generates other constructions, such as water aqueduct for water supply. Part of this aqueduct is still visible on the road that leads from Split in Solin.

More than a palace, it is a real small town that will build Diocletian, all spanning twenty acres, surrounded by ramparts, these little town consisted of course of the private apartments of the Emperor but also those of his bodyguard, and his servants, and also a mausoleum, baths, a library, a military barrack, a temple and all the shops needed to retire the Emperor. The population within the palace was estimated at the time at approximately 8,000 people.

Aqueduct (road Split-Solin)

An example of architecture In its appearance, the palace includes the architecture of a city, with its streets, places of worship, and their homes and also the architecture of the roman villas of the era with the luxury and pomp that Diocletian appreciated so much. On the exterior, the palace looks as a fortress sometimes with walls of a thickness greater than 2.50 meters and a height of between 15 and 20 meters. The entrance of the palace was done with 4 doors, as the four cardinal points, three views of the earth and one overlooking the sea because at the time the sea came to the palace. The gates The Golden Gate, located on the north side of the palace, it was the main gate of the palace, all visitors coming to see the Emperor came by it, and so they can be identified. This door also had a defensive role, an impressive dimension, two towers on each side (now extinct) was used to defend the entrance of the palace against unwanted invaders. Over the centuries this door has undergone various changes, first under Justinian, a chapel was built even at the top. This chapel still exists, and contains the remains and treasures from different periods that the palace had been through. The Iron Gate, located about it on the west front of the Palace, was originated normal size but was extended to allow connecting the old city to the outer neighborhoods west of the Palace. Today that door, there remains a modest entrance, although small compared to what it should be at the time.

Silver Gate

Bronze Gate, is the smallest but certainly of great relevance, because at the time of the construction of the palace, the sea came to this door and allowed to bring goods and people whose only knew Diocletian existence.

The Peristyle, or "courtyard of the cathedral," is the central courtyard of the palace, rectangular the Peristyle was at the crossroads of the four doors. Surrounded by Corinthian columns on these three sides, some red column Egyptian granite and marble for others. From this spot, on the forecourt of the Vestibul, it was there that Diocletian was addressing to his people. Up a few steps, you will access to the location where was the private apartments of the Emperor, now it is a luxury hotel that is located in the imperial apartments. The western colonnade separates the Peristyle of Diocletian's mausoleum and Dominius Cathedral St., the east colonnade separates the Peristyle of Temple of Jupiter. Le PĂŠristyle

Diocletian's Mausoleum and Cathedral of Split, octagonal mausoleum of Diocletian's certainly the monuments that remained most faithful its original architecture. Surrounded by 24 columns with capitals in the Corinthian style, about its roof

It is composed of eight sides covered with red tiles. Inside the Mausauleum, there is only one room paved with tile-shaped black and white checkerboard. Looking up, you can perceive a circular frieze with 7

representations of Diocletian and his wife Prisca and hunting scenes. Diocletian's mausoleum rests on a square containing a crypt that one little visit. Its original appearance, the entrance porch to almost disappeared because its stones were used in part to the construction of the Cathedral of Split which is an integral part of the Mausoleum. This same cathedral, known as the Cathedral Saint Dominius at meanwhile was built much later, it was around the 12th century that its construction was finished with the construction of the bell tower, replacing a old church built in the 7th century. His "greatness" in fact one of the smallest cathedrals in the world. Quick tip for the visit of the Cathedral, and especially its campanile, it is best not to have the dizziness because climb to the top of the bell tower is pretty “dangerous. But once at the top of the bell tower you'll be rewarded an imperial view the city of Split, its port, its Marina, the sea and its islands. The Cathedrale of Split and the Mausoleum

The Temple of Jupiter, at the opposite of the Mausoleum and the Cathedral, from the Peristyle you need to borrow a small alley and after some steps arrive at the Temple of Jupiter. Diocletian built the temple in honor of the God he worshiped: Jupiter. Do not expect to see a monumental temple, on the contrary, it is a very intimate temple. Built on a pedestal, it has lost its original architecture, and especially following the wrath of Justinian who first ordered the temple to be destroyed, but it was, fortunately, actually the door and monumental ornaments the door that were destroyed. This temple was built at the same time that the Palace and was in the Middle Ages transformed into the baptistery of the cathedral. His baptismal cross-shaped are quite impressive since the beginning of Christianity, baptism was by complete immersion of the body. Inside the temple you can see the ceiling and admire the work done by the Romans workers at the time. Today, in the baptistery are preserved two sarcophagi, one with two Archbishop of Split inside and in the other one, an adviser of the King Zvonimir, the latter sarcophagus is recognizable by the lily carved on the lid.

The caves of the Palace, located in the southern part of the palace, facing the sea, their architectures serve as the foundation to the private apartments of the Emperor Diocletian and at a part of the palace; they used these caves to store goods, items belonging to the Emperor but also wine. What makes us say this is the remains of a grape press was found, allowing us to imagine that Diocletian was making his own wine. At that time, the sea touched the palace, and it is through the Bronze Door that arrived from the sea, the high-ranking guests and goods for the exclusive use of the Emperor. Another feature of the caves is the sound that is very strong, which allowed the Emperor and his guards to know what was going when he was in his apartments, and intervene if necessary. From the caves you can follow the path that will lead you to the Peristyle. 8

Diocletian,

the last great Augustus of the Western Roman Empire Roman Emperor, reformer of all political systems, military, administrative, fiscal and economic; this Augustus in this immoderate taste for luxury that after twenty years of reign, will leave indelible traces of its passage

not elected to their family relationship but according to their values, which eliminated all estate matters. Become Caesar was an honor and a springboard to become Augustus. But the establishment of the tetrarchy did not solve all the problems, however, and Rome was beginning to suffer. Diocletian and the tetrarchy will therefore try to restore its former greatness in Rome and thus restore his authority. Usurpers and protesters will be eliminated one by one. Housekeeping and fact Diocletian can tackle basic tasks of power. It will implement various reforms that will completely transform the Roman Empire: - He'll break up the provinces in which more manageable smaller units; - Needless to build walls around major cities to protect against invasion and install legions inside the cities; - It will restore and redevelop the road network by creating new routes and thus establish connections and faster travel between provinces;

From a modest family, some historians agree that his parents and grandparents were freed. Diocletian, whose real name was Gaius Aurelius Valerius Diocletian; was born around 245 AD in the city of Salona (small metropolis of Dalmatia, where administrative and Episcopal service of the Roman provinces was centralized) located a few kilometers from the current split. He leave the home very early to integrate the Roman army, he very quickly pointed out by these feats of arms under the Roman Emperors Aurelian and Probus. Gradually, he climbed the corporate ladder and in a few years he started his own army. On the death of the Emperor Numerian, in 284, Diocletian was elected Augustus (emperor) by his soldiers the same year. It is as a warned and cleaver man, that he accepts this power value and like all emperors before him, he chose the protection of a god, it will be Jupiter (pretending to be his descendant and be under the protection). Realizing quickly that to better conquer, the best thing to do it was to share the power, he was joined as co-emperor, his most loyal soldier in the person of Maximilian Hercules. Diocletian is a visionary and innovative man, so he decided to create and implement the Tetrarchy ("government" with four people). Tetrarchy is created, the two Augusti (Diocletian and Maximilian) and two new Caesars (Galley and Constance 1 chlorine). Galerius is affiliated with Diocletian and Constantius 1 Chlorine with Maximilian. In Diocletian tetrarchy, the Caesars were

May 305, the first, the two Augusts meet their troops and advertise their abdication, transferring powers to the Caesar and become Augusti and they will have to choose their towers two Caesars. This is the time for a historical fact as abdicating, Diocletian becomes a man of the people, while keeping the status of Augustus and benefits. This is a man of the people he earns his Palace of Spalato. But it's mostly man tired and worn by the conquests, wars and old age he retires. Since this abdication, it will come very rarely retirement. It will, however, routinely consulted on matters relating to the Empire, but never take decisions on behalf of the Empire. He did not even let anybody enter his apartment. And will address the inhabitants of the Palace only a few times. During his retirement, he saw collapse all he had established during his reign, the tetrarchy did not resist, and collapsed soon after the abdication of Diocletian as the new Augustus found no ground to agreement, each wanting to take power.

He will separate and expand the powers of the civil and military services; Commit tax reforms to get new taxes, and more taxes; To block inflation, it will cancel the price increase and will make a new currency (with his effigy); From a military point of view, it will set a 20-year term limit's reign as Emperor.

All these reforms will allow Rome to regain its greatness However, these reforms were marred by significant and tragic of the Christian story is, when Diocletian commit repression and persecution unparalleled against Christianity, killing hundreds or thousands of Christians as the only principle "one empire, one god "(this information is the most commonly used).

Diocletian’s therms in Rome

Great man of power, Diocletian was also a great builder, and left her last beauty of architecture. He built in Rome, the Diocletian Baths, which will be the largest Roman baths ever built in the world; and especially the Diocletian Palace in Spalato (today Split) for his retirement.

To 313, Diocletian joined her protective father Jupiter, leaving behind indelible marks of its passage, of its existence. Note that the Emperor Diocletian is the only Roman Emperor to die of old age.

Years pass and the system tetrarchy proven and reached its peak. Diocletian decided to Maximilian to abdicate voluntarily, and so left their seats to their respective Caesar, Galerius and Constantius 1 Chlorine.

The correct dates and some events cannot be verified because too few documents from this period remain

Split, A city for the past, present, and future Located between the sea and the mountains, Split is primarily a city of history before being a tourist town. Timeless city par excellence, people come to discover Split and leave Split with the desire to return. But why this city fascinates tourists and its citizens?

To better understand this fascination, we must first go back to the history of Split. City over a thousand years, she even celebrated its 1700 years in 1995. His story began in the time or the Greeks had settled on the Dalmatian coast. It is partly named after Aspalatos (his name in Greek), but the name of Spalato remain in textbooks and history. Before Roman rule takes possession of Split, so it was the Greeks who lived in this small fishing village. Real life Spalato began when the Emperor Diocletian, a native of the town of Salona (located a few kilometers from Spalato) decided to settle his "retirement home" and instead of this fishing port, he build a palace, so big that an entire city could settle within its walls. By building this palace, the last great emperor of the Roman Empire of the West, did not imagine that his palace will become the second Croatian town in the 20th century because of its population and its economy, after Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. This palace, whose construction began in the 3rd century AD, is the foundation of the present city of Split that we know today. Covering an area equal to six football fields, this palace was a city unto itself. (see our article "Diocletian's Palace")

Some 300 years after the death of the Emperor Diocletian, were in fact the people of Salona that will give meaning to the name of the palace. They therefore invest the palace so Avars and Slavs flee the invaders who destroyed their city Salona. By investing this palace, they began making modifications to be able to live there. Over the years, and a rising population, life was organized first in the palace and outside the palace. Vue du ciel de la vieille ville

Split begin to be so important that under the Byzantine domination, the Dalmatian town gained its independence and, because its geographical position and its proximity to the sea, began to prosper and become a fishing port, and over the years, one of the important trade port of the Mediterranean and today Croatia.

During the 15th century Split was conquered by the Republic of Venice, the Venetian dominance signifying prosperity, Split continues to flourish. To guard against the Turkish invasions, he built their walls. The Venetian mind is now always visible and well preserved in Split, it is even one of the prides of Splitois recognizable by its Venetian architecture and the way they live. A few years after the fall of the Venetian Empire, Dalmatia and Split therefore are governed by the France of Napoleon including one of his marshals, Marshal Marmont, governor of the Illyrian Provinces, created the first street that now bears his name. And it is also installed in this street what the association "French Alliance Split", an association for the extension of the French language courses and reading areas. Another mark the passage of the France, at the top of the Marjan Hill, was previously installed a French optical telegraph. When in 1815, after the Congress of Vienna, Dalmatia and Split integrate the Austrian Empire and that of Austria-Hungary in 1867 and until 1919, than the German mind integrates the Venetian and cultures Slavic. Dalmatian, and are buffeted between Croatian, Italian and German. Today, if you have to ask for directions, certainly a large part of the citizens of Split speak English but sometimes knowing German can be a great help.

Rue Marmont

After the fall of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Dalmatia joined the Kingdom of Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia, Dalmatia is found and Yugoslavia. Croatian culture is beginning to reassert itself.

At the declaration of independence of Croatia in 1991, the Croatian people definitely take its rights and hopes.

La Riva of Split Coming to Split is to discover a city, a history, a way of life. And speaking of lifestyle, there is a must or Split meet to chat, have a drink or just walk around and look for the flow of cruise ships and shuttles islands, yachts‌ This is the Riva of Split. It's there almost two century Riva acquired this original and this value in 2007 saw the Riva deteriorate, the city decided to redevelop, making it a place where the concrete is ideally harmonized with the palms, laurel flowers and other shrubs that gives this unique air of the Riva. This is THE place of Split, impossible to leave Split without your feet trod the Riva. La Riva is our Dalmatian Croisette. This is one of the most interesting of Croatia but also in the Mediterranean sites. Meeting place, it is a place of cultural and sometimes sporting event; in summer Riva hosts bands from all backgrounds, folk groups, troubadours of all countries or just one evening artists present their works. Tourist walk the day, in the evening Riva changes of face, once the sun goes down, the lights of the streetlights come on and the parade of swimwear and casual outfits of the day, when the evening comes all the women of Split get evening wear not only for dining but simply because living in Split is an art.

Important to know

What to do in Split during the day?

If you are driving in Split, you need to know two things, the first is that the old town is discovered only by foot, and the second is that all parking Split are paying, it is the same for streets, no parking are free and often mobbed by the citizens of Split or someone familiar locations. For an hour of parking, it takes an average of 15 kuna (â‚Ź 2) in parking near the old town and 10 kuna (â‚Ź 1.50), less sometimes see as soon as you moved away from the old town

Split is a city for all seasons, with its sunshine, its warm temperate 10 months of the year, but it is true that the months of April to October are the best months to come hang out in the city.

Split is a city with its history, because its proximity to the sea and its environment, during the summer period we can see a steady stream of tourists from all countries, all cultures. There is so much to see and do in Split, it is better that you come alone, with your family or group to take a guide from Split to understand the city and go to the places that are worth visiting. You will find the home of the official guide in Split Peristyle, in an old chapel, hostesses will communicate the details of the guides, but all the information you need for your stay (that visit, where to stay, cheap shots restaurants, or a drink ...).

Your first steps in the old tow ... First of all you should know that when you hear of the old town you have to understand that we speak of Diocletian's Palace and the streets surrounding it. To start the tour, it is best to start by way of Riva. Early in the Riva you have on your left is a bronze sculpture of the city which is an Entrance of the palace

exact reproduction of the place, just in front of the door of the Bronze Palace. So I suggest you go through that door Bronze to start your tour. Through this door, in the time of Diocletian, passed notables came to see to the Emperor, and arrived by boat since the time of Diocletian the sea coming up that door. This shift allowed them to only be seen Diocletian himself. Here and now, you are like in the skin of a notable Roman ready to get the experience of the Palace.

The Peristyle, the sights to see and visit are not to wear: the Temple of Jupiter (50 meters on your left, taking the small passage with walls supported by wooden beams), Mausoleum of Diocletian and Split Cathedral (immediately on your right), other monuments and treasures of the palace are close to you, all within 200 m. Continue your path and make you the center of the Peristyle, flip you, facing you is like a wooden platform with a railing, this is the platform that the Emperor Diocletian came to greet his guests. So go to meet him climbing those stairs for a moment and take his place. Closing his eyes, and with a little imagination you will be taken to the Emperor himself. Coming back to "land", just behind you, a little place: it is the Vestibul, where on certain days of the week, a-capella singers gather to sing Croatian song. It is a time to see, to listen and especially to savor, because these singers have amazing voice coupled with the acoustics of the hall that filled these voices perfectly. I'll let you continue your walk in the palace, but before leave you, follow me again a little, pass the second porch forward twenty paces in front of you is the Ethnographic Museum (where you will find a collection of costumes, jewelry and some staging, all depicting the customs, and the old life in Dalmatia), now turn on yourself, you are in the private apartments of the Emperor Diocletian, occupied by the Vestibul palace hotel; hotel which occupies a part of these apartments. Now I let you continue your walk and exploring the Palace, its narrow streets and fill you with its irresistible charm. I'll see you tonight is for other discoveries

Go through the door, you are now in one of the aisles of the basement of the palace (that alley that was used by millions if not hundreds of millions of people since its inception, there are more than 1700 years) raise your eyes and contemplate the ceiling height and the outstanding work of the Masons of the time. After the walk, you will discover the steps, take the stairs but be careful these are high and made slippery by the ravages of time. Now, hold your breath for a few steps you enter the main square of the palace, the Peristyle. Do you feel the power that emerges this place?

What can we eat in Split?

How to continue your day?

After all these wonderful emotions, hunger may be starting to be felt. It is difficult to recommend a restaurant or a "brewery", as the selection is great, but one thing that is certain is that you will find something you enjoy. A Split as throughout Dalmatia, the cuisine is essentially Mediterranean, so based on the products of the sea. Split has no culinary specialty itself, however its proximity to the sea allows restaurateurs have always products costs (especially the fish market and the vegetable market are only 100 m each from the palace). For lovers of seafood, I would advise you to try the dish of different fish and shellfish, but the top, and all Croatian are very, very fond is peka; it is the typical Dalmatian specialty made with fish and vegetables or veal and vegetables, fish is the most frequently used (to taste this specialty, you will find a restaurant with a fireplace because it requires both preparation time but also a long time cooking).

After lunch, it's good to get some rest, then Split offers various possibilities, either to go to your hotel or apartment, or to go on the Riva, or go to the beach, or continue visiting the city for the more brave, but with an average of 35 degrees in the shade, I know that the bravest seek some shade or a bit of freshness. If you decide to go on the Riva, for coffee consumption or while sitting on the terrace in a comfortable chair (it is not because you are on the terrace that the price will not be higher so far) . In addition you will be in the shade of giant parasols, and in hot weather, a fogger you swing a little freshness comforting. The café makes sure your comfort be maximum, and you can stay as long as you want, no one will ask you to consume more. This is the meaning of hospitality and etiquette Croatian.

La Peka

Les cepavi

Le risotto à l’encre de seiche

There are also other dishes of meat or fish that are just as tasty, such as risotto with squid ink; the brudet (specialty fish marinated in white wine and cooked with tomatoes) Grilled or fried calamari; The cevapi (pork and chopped and grilled beef) is often eaten sandwich. Food lovers will be tempted by the plate of meat and vegetables (pork chop, cevapi, chicken, veal, all grilled and served with an assortment of vegetables.

Coming to an outdoor cafe, especially after a meal, does not mean necessarily take a coffee, especially the cards cafes have a multitude of coffee-based drinks. However, you can indulge in the Croatian specialties such as Cockta "Croatian Coke" which is a delicious mix of taste between Coke and San Pelligrino served very cold it is both refreshing and refreshing, or tempted by a glass of Pipi, I know it can be confusing, because in French language it’s mean pee, but it is the actual word and is very good; our Croatian Fanta, I see the comments of your friends saying, "I went to Croatia and I drank pee," it is clear that everyone will laugh at you ... But it is actually very good to drink Pipi. By cons, if the urge takes you a beer, do not be surprised to see the capacity of the glasses (I speak for our French friends), when you ask for a beer, if you do not specify, it often brings half a beer, not a 25 cl glass as in France but a true half 50 cl, if you want a half as in France, you have to specify the server. Often it prompted a precautionary measure.

For these dishes, you will pay between 30 and 150 kuna (between € 4 for cevapi and € 20 for peka)

If some people like to eat in restaurants, others are more followers faster food, then you'll find it in fast food restaurants (many in the city), where you can treat yourself to real wraps, shares pizza, sandwiches cevapi or any other fast food. The portions are served in large enough quantities to sustain the hungriest.

What to do in Split at night? Unlike France, and the whole western part of Europe, in Croatia the nights start early in the summer, the sun begins to set at 20:30, it's moment, the time, where Split show an other face.

The whole city and especially the old city takes his coat of light, sound systems of the open bars start to blow their melodies, the latest boats from excursions on the islands return to the harbor, yachts marina turn on their lights for we can admire, the pavement cafes and restaurants begin to fill. Split wakes up for the second time that day. This is the time that many people prefer because temperatures drop a bit and that's when the Riva, the parade of swimsuits and bikinis gives way to dresses and evening wear. People find themselves to see and discuss, to meet, to gather with family and friends. Any excuse is good to come stroll the Croatian Croisette: The Riva

The Riva, the night

Down the road, up the stairs, the light we saw this morning has faded but is still present. Moving on ... Moving forward, there is music and lyrics. Going up the stairs, we recognize tunes modern music that we know well. Indeed, on summer evenings, the "Luxor" coffee shop located in the Peristyle offers to the tourists the opportunity to enjoy a drink, sing and even dance. The Peristyle is transformed into a concert venue, it is also a magical time when not sitting on the steps before a waiter brings you a cushion to sit down and avoid getting dirty and above all be better installed on the cold marble peristyle (once again, the Croatian hospitality is exemplary). You can quietly contemplate the beauty of the palace and the labor of the workers of the time, listen to good music and have a drink. Palace then coated with other colors, the flow of tourists fades to give way to music. Every night, it's "full house". The atmosphere is so friendly and warm as the hours go by without you noticing... You can also watch the show without eating, of course.

Bronze sculpture by Mestrovic representing the old town (Diocletian's Palace) and part of the new city of Split

Old Town at night if we take our walk this morning? Returning to our starting point, the bronze sculpture of the Old City (pictured). We will take the same path, but this time a little differently. We'll go through the bronze gate and taking time to look at the shops that populate the basement of the palace. Everything here is craft "Made in Croatia", the sculptured stones, paint ... everything is made in Croatia.

Le Luxor, les soirs d’ÊtÊ 20 0

After this musical interlude, we will continue our walk and go through the hall, looking up you can see, the moon, the stars in the night sky, and sometimes both, it's a very romantic moment. Upon entering the apartments of the Emperor, the lights of the hotel and those of the ethnographic museum show all the stones and the beauty of the architecture of the time. The restoration was carried out according to the same principles and rules of Art. Although needles watch approaching midnight, rest assured, the Palace will not transform. However the night was not over, as you venture into the narrow streets of the palace, you will see that every corner (like in every corner of the palace), people gather around a table to discuss. On your way you will come across restaurants with Dalmatian specialties, pizzerias and cafes. Although the streets are narrow, there is room for everyone. Going down to the Riva, you will pass one of the most famous Split the "Figa", where young people and also people of all ages from Split and all countries like to meet to exchange informations, and take a drink. The particularity of this coffee makes it unique because instead of sitting in a room or on a terrace, sitting on the long steps of a staircase, so you can eat and a drink. It's an experience because it's really very nice. At the bottom of the stairs, a few more steps and you are in front of the Milesi Palace, with its magnificent play of light. La Riva is not far and is still busy, it's one of the moments of the day which is nice because the music does not leave you in a part of the Riva group performs on stage, and every night it's a different group with different sounds (jazz, rock, pop ...), in another place of the Riva is dancers Street dance, but you can also see jugglers, acrobats... Every night on the Riva, the shows are different.

If you continue on the Riva towards the marina after the Venetian palace, you will pass a small park where small youth groups, small groups of retirees singing, sometimes accompanied by guitar. Arriving at the marina, the calm will suddenly; it's time to sit you on the big wooden chairs from the harbor, and enjoy the sweet sound choppy sea while watching Riva and lights off the lights of cruise ships to the port. One of the moments of relaxation that Split Where have a good drink in Split? It is like with restaurants places, it is difficult to give names because all the cafes and bars of days and nights of Split are very friendly and mostly known for their festive atmosphere. The right choice will be based on your assessment and your tastes. Close to the Marina, the O'Hara Club is a club with a rock and jazz atmosphere; you can sit in comfortably chairs and enjoy cocktails, that only the bartender alone has the secret. Bacvice Beach This beach is also famous for its nights. Near the city center (15 minutes walk from the Riva), this is where all the youth, and the whole Split found there to spend all or part of the night. These coffee clubs, clubs are open late into the night restaurants. Like this you could need to manage your time and while having a great time; you could and dance all night too, if you want. A cool and trendy place to go is the Tropic Club is also one of the newest clubs in town.

The little information on city buses Allowing you to go to Split and its region are all very regular until 23h after then for certain destinations, taxi or walk home will be the only solutions. 21 0

Split, a city known for its Roman Palace, the Riva, the commercial port and its ferries in departing to islands or more remote destination ... Split is a city in every corner, in every unusual places, rooftop buildings ... are written in blue, red and white a single graffiti: Hajduk Split. Whether small or large, that graffiti is that of a football club. But not just any ...

HNK Hajduk Split More than a football club…

“Hajduk” for tourists arriving in Split for the first time, the name means nothing, outside mid one question, what does Hajduk? Is it the local political party? Is it a national brand of consumer goods? Is this a sign of the largest store of Split? Is it a band? Well none of that, Hajduk's just the pride of a city of a people, of a country, this is the name of the football team from Split. Just hearing the word Hajduk, you pride is seen in the eyes of an entire country. This club, more than a century, is both the oldest football club in the world, the club that won the most wins since its creation... In the next issue, we will come back of the 100 years of Hajduk

But back to the story of this extraordinary club whose history began to be written in a brewery in Prague. All have began in February 1911, when four Croatian students studying in Prague discover the beautiful game, which at the time was practiced by the English university sport, a sport considered violent and whose rules of the time really sets with that practiced at that time. Sitting around a table in the brewery "U Fleku" large brewery in Prague where all students came, four Croatian students discussing about their discovery and decide to bring a ball to Croatia and create a club. Drunk with their discovery, these four students: Fabijan Kaliterna, Lucijan Stella, Ivan Sakic and Vjekoslav Ivanisevic landed all four as rebels in the office of their teacher to tell him of their discovery. It is thanks to this sensational entered in the office of their teacher, this latter, Kruno Kolembakovic found the name of the club. The club will be called Hajduk (nickname given to rebel Serbs look more like robins wood in modern times). February 13, 1911, the statutes of the club are write, the club HNK Hajduk Split is borned, a logo is created, which is the same as the 2014 player proudly wear their jerseys. The logo might change a time when Croatia was under communist rule and it is a red star, which replaced the red and white checkerboard.

Brewery "U Fleku" This is the Prague brewery, the oldest of Prague; where our four students had the idea of creating the club Hajduk after watching football. The brewery, still exists and is used for more than 100 years the same beer from a brewery located in the same building as the restaurant.

The first game played by Hajduk was cagainst Calcio, game that HNK Hajduk won 9:0

The interwar period, the first major step of the White Not until 1923 that is held the first competition at the national level. This year Hajduk is recognized as the best team, the best club, as a single unit of 11 players in this mach were all split, except in 1924 and only the goalkeeper was not from Split but was Italian citizen. In 1926, was held at the opening of a match, the opera "kraljica lopte" composed by Ivo Tijardovic for the whites (nickname given at the players from Hajduk, since playing in the white shirt). Today, Hajduk is the only club in the world with its Opera. In 1927, Hajduk won his first championship title and Ljubomir Bencic with 9 goals became the first top scorer, as will be won for the second time in 1929, The 30s were mostly marked by displacements worldwide. In 1933 Kragic is voted best player by scoring 21 points on 41 at the National Championship in 1935 will have to be elected Leo Lemesic top scorer with 18 goals. The Second World War, the ever present Hajduk However, while World War II raged, Hajduk continues to attract crowds at a match between a British and Hajduk military composition, will have some 40,000 people attending the game. This will be the most watched sporting event during the war years. In 1941, must be added to the shares already acquired Banovina even plain war, nothing prevents the Hajduk play and elect its best shot as Ratko Kacijan voted best shooter with 17 goals during the season.

honor of Free France, the medal will be awarded during a game in Lebanon . The postwar years were marked by a number of tours in Africa and the Middle East. 1945 will be an important year for Hajduk, who won the first trophy of the Federal State Champion Croatian. The year 1950 is a special year too, for Hajduk because he will lose any match during the championship; and another highlight is the creation of the Torcida gathering oldest bear whites.

The Trophies room (a part)

The 70s and 80s, the best years The seventies erase some of the problems that the club met in previous years. During that decade Hajduk won four national titles and five trophies consecutively. Score and performance unmatched to this day. 1970 will be by far the best decade for Hajduk. For the next 10 years, the Hajduk continues to prove its superiority by winning the trophy three times winner of the cup and also managed to rank in the first place of all the rankings. In 1991, it is in a difficult and tense political climate that Hajduk continues to be talked about himself, even if the problems both economic and financial begin to harm the club. Since the 2000s, despite satisfactory results, Hajduk continued to lose money and not be profitable to the point that in 2008 the club is facing bankruptcy proceedings. Unable to let that happen, a handful of businessmen and the city of Split emerge club of this plight.

Médaille décernée par le Général de Gaulle en 1945

This medal is treasured as all other medals and trophies that managed Hajduk in the large trophy room. After the war, the beginning of the great moments At the end of the Second World War, the club administration refuses to become a military club and move to Belgrade. This moral value, that of the "Freedom" will be recognized in 1945, General de Gaulle recognized the moral value of this club and Hajduk become the team

Today the financial position of the club is better, and Hajduk continued to get noticed and always give the best of himself to ensure the show.

Poljud Staduim From inception until 1979, the team Hajduk evolved on a former base of maneuver Austro-Hungarian Army that the club had turned into a football stadium. And now occupied by rugby team from Split. In 1979 was inaugurated by President Tito, a totally futuristic stadium straight out of the imagination of the great architect Boris Magas. Shellshaped, with a capacity of 55,000 seats, the Poljud was born. Its structure is an architectural feat for its time, its roof made of plastic plate home to much of the stands and booths sports reporters who are suspended in the air with a direct view of the pitch. Over the years, the Poljud became and is an institution in Split but also throughout the Croatia. Since then, HNK Hajduk Split is the resident Poljud. But Poljud is a football stadium, it is the meeting place for sports athletic, cultural and concerts. The latest being the Ultra Festival Europe rally, which is one of the biggest music events in the world passing the biggest DJ in the world in July 2014, and was more than 300 000 people attended this global event.

Torcida Split These are the fans that gives a team, in any sport, the desire to go further. Torcida Split is the best example. Founded in 1950, Torcida Split is the oldest club in the world to bear. They are one of the biggest clubs in Croatia bear. Torcida Split really takes shape at the game very tense between the arch-rivals Hajduk, Red Star Belgrade, on October 28, 1958 or in the 87th minute, when Hajduk scored the winning goal. At the final whistle it was a lot of fan who invaded the pitch to glorify their scorer. This movement will be called to support the Ultra suite. Ultra that we find in many team in Croatia but also in the world. Like any large group of support, they have their place in Poljud stadium. For each match, it will regroup in the north stand to bring their strength to their team. It is not uncommon for fans forming patterns in the stands. All these fans give each match a voice and visual spectacle.

All our regrets While writing this first article on Hajduk, we learned with sadness the death of mister Vladimir Beara who left us to join the stars of Hajduk at the age of 85 following a heart attack. Vladimir Beara occupied in 1950-60, the position of goalkeeper in. Vladimir was considered by his colleagues and opponents as the greatest goalkeeper Yugoslav goal. He was a gold medalist with the team of Yugoslavia at the Olympic Games in 1952, this year Yugoslavia was ranked 21st in the medal obtained, with a total of three medals.

Special thanks to Goran Vučević, sporting director HNK Hajduk for his valuable time, availability and the entire management team of the club and a big thank you to Boris and Frane without whom this article would not have been written.

In future editions of "International Tourist Split" we will return to the players yesterday and today HNK Hajduk Split as well as the history of this club out of the ordinary.

Enter its premises is a bit like stepping into a fairy tale. The cave of the Dragon, in this cave, lived monks who have carved ornaments depicting dragons and mythological creatures. Maslinica

Stomorska

The authenticity of the island is also seen in the ruins of ancient Roman buildings in the port of Rogac; going to Gorje Sela you will see the ruins of the old village center in place of a castle with two towers. The Emperor Diocletian himself recognized the qualities that brought the island and its environment. A legacy he left us fishponds. You can see these fishponds in the seabed close to Necujam, in the bay of Piškera. Regarding agriculture, the island is rich in vineyards, olive and fig trees. Special mention is to bring to its olive oil, which is by far one of the best in the region, and honey which features delicate aromas of flowers.

By area, it is the smallest of the four islands near Split. Although its population is sometimes up to 10 times during the summer months, the island of Solta is not, like its neighboring islands, taken by mass tourism. Tourist activities are still quite poor, for accommodations only a few very nice hotels that offer services on top. Proposals apartment rental are also very interesting. Taking the ferry from Split is Rogac as you arrive, it's one of the main villages of the island, but the tourist center of the island is Necujam, which offers various tourist facilities and that a huge complex of more than 1,000 rooms, and is also in Necujam that is the largest beach of the island (pebble beach). Maslinica village, located west of the island is recognizable to other fishing villages on the island, as in the bay, are not less than seven islands that make up the panorama. By renting a boat you can enjoy all the creeks that offer these islands. There's room for everyone on the largest of these islands, you will see the ruins of a 14th century church. Although its size is small, the island of Solta with a history dating back to prehistoric discovery made there shortly by a team of archaeologists.

The island of Solta is also ideal to anchor your boat. Numbers of boats come to enjoy its coves to make shorter or longer breaks. The island of Solta is also of interest for lovers of walking. Many hiking trails allow you to travel through the island and walk around. Quick tip! Do not forget to take with you what you refresh because the villages do not have any grocery store. Solta is a paradise for sure, and this is the place to be for those who love peace, the poor landscape of human life, an authentic life, and creeks is possible to bathe in crystal clear, warm water. Ideal for family holidays.

Tourist attraction not to be missed The shot rope of Mrduja in fact this small island, Mrduja, was during a long time about old quarrels between the inhabitants of Brac and the inhabitants of Solta to know to who Mrduja belonged. So we chose to present briefly the cities of Solin, Salona, Trogir and Omis. We will not spend on the historical side of the city that is rich in events, but on the current side of its cities. In future issues, we will focus on these cities and other towns and villages of Dalmatia equally surprising beauty, culture and history.

Solin Solin and Salona, have both a common connotation but are quite different. The town of Solin is today the guarantor of a historic and living cultural heritage and guarantee of the historical heritage of Salona. Resolutely young and growing city, taking full advantage of its proximity to Split (proximity to the sea and the road), the two cities are adjacent. Coming to Solin is coming in a quiet town where there is very live and spend holidays in a city where water is virtually present. During the summer season, under the leadership of the House of Culture of Solin, Solin is the theater for concerts and various cultural events (Ethnoambient ...) and artistic grouping different nationalities (international exhibition of caricature ...). Solin knows how to enjoy his story to highlight, playing scenes from Roman life, such as "Romance in Salona"; and organize events around the food from the Roman era. For accommodations, Solin is pretty poor in hotel, the “President Hotel is ideal, against an offer by quite meaty on holiday with a very good value for money. Viewpoint catering, restaurants Solin are very good, "the Slap" where the specialty is grilled eel and trout and other fish specialties and the "Girasole" restaurant, which offers traditional and gourmet Croatian and Italian cooking is exceptional, all in a warm atmosphere and impeccable service. To visit the ruins of Salona, the mill Gaspic, The Parac home aquarium Split, the Roman ruins around the city... Tip: in summer, a moment of rest with a drink in the cafe of the House of Culture of Solin, you will hear only is the sound of the river Jadro; it is a moment of pure happiness ...
