SUSTAINABILITY LIVE

Sustainability Live - Best Selected Exhibitors SUSTAINABILITY LIVE: LEADS THE WAY AT THE NEC, BIRMINGHAM Sustainability Live is the leading event for sustainable business management, providing a comprehensive showcase of the latest products and services across the energy, water and energy-from-waste sectors. Run by Utility Week’s parent company, Faversham House, the conference and exhibition returned to Birmingham between the 16-18 April this year. With three shows under one roof - Nemex energy Live, Iwex water Live and the new EfW Expo energy-from-waste Live - delegates and visitors were provided with a focused, world-class environment in which to do business. Nemex: The theme of this year’s Nemex energy Live was New Energy Management Excellence. Responding to the ever-changing marketplace, the show saw a major focus on building energy management systems, energy efficiency and innovative energy management - from lighting to building fabrics, and from software to solar. The opening session of the Nemex seminars was based on energy policy and featured a presentation from Andrew Warren of the Association for the Conservation of Energy, providing delegates with his perspective on the government’s energy efficiency strategy; while Patrick Erwin, deputy director and head of the Energy Markets and Infrastructure Strategy and Programme Office at the Department of Energy and Climate Change, discussed the Energy Bill and the current status of the legal process, following the Energy Bill’s introduction into Parliament last November. Other highlights of the Nemex seminar programme included: KiWi

Other sessions covered a wide range of issues, including photovoltaics/solar, the Green Deal and energy management standards. Iwex: Iwex water Live was the place to discover sustainable water solutions, savings and best practice. A visit to the conference offered the opportunity to gain high-quality insight through the comprehensive seminar programme. Keynote topics include: catchment area management; energy savings; sustainable water management; smart water networks; and innovations in treatment technologies. With high-level networking and engagement with the best practitioners, Iwex was a vital event in the water resource manager’s calendar. Almost 100 leading organisations were at the Iwex exhibition this year, including T-T Pumps, ABB, Hydra Valve Advanced Valve & Pipeline Solutions, British Water, KSB, Glasdon and Verder UK plus Draeger Safety, which launched the new Polytron 8000 flammable and toxic gas detector series. INFOSECURITY EUROPE

Infosecurity Europe - Best Selected Exhibitors INFOSECURITY EUROPE 2014: EXPERTS HIGHLIGHT POTENTIAL FOR SECURITY AS A BUSINESS ENABLER AS SHOW ATTRACTS MORE THAN 15,000 UNIQUE INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS At this year’s Infosecurity Europe conference and exhibition, senior figures from both government and industry have called for greater collaboration on how security intelligence is shared, in order to protect against cyber-attacks and ensure that security insight spreads beyond IT teams to affect boardroom decisions. During this year’s Infosecurity Europe 2014, held at London’s Earls Court, keynote speakers including the FBI and Troels Oerting, head of the European Cybercrime Centre, highlighted the threat that security breaches now present to global economies, adding that stronger collaboration is needed to prevent ‘cyber-war’. The UK government used the show to announce its intentions at improving this collaboration, with Universities and Science minister David Willetts pledging that investment in cyber security exports will rise to £2bn by 2016 during his keynote speech. In addition to this, the Airbus Group provided details of a huge research project that will help both institutions uncover and control vulnerabilities within critical infrastructures such as water, transportation networks and banking systems. However a research report, released in April by Infosecurity Europe, highlighted how far such measures have to go, with 68 per cent of information security professionals declaring that intelligence is not shared effectively between government and industry. “What this year’s conference proved is that security professionals cannot sit outside the boardroom anymore,” said Joy-Fleur Brettschneider, group marketing manager at Infosecurity Europe at Reed Exhibitions. “The results of a breach do not just affect IT but the whole business; in fact as some of our delegates have claimed, it can even result in bankruptcy.” The show, which attracted 15,253 (pre ABC Audit) unique industry professionals from 73 countries across the three days, saw a number of important topics discussed in the Keynote Theatre. These included debates on the future-proofing of information and rethinking information security education strategies that will engage Generation Y. In spite of industrial tube strike action planned by the RMT during the event, this year saw an increase in visitor attendance from director level executives responsible for IT decision-making, as well as IS/IT managers and industry analysts. A total of 345 exhibitors from 24 countries showcased their latest information security innovations, 78 of which were new exhibitors for 2014. “This year’s Security as a Business Enabler theme brought together some of the information security industry’s leading voices to educate and inform a growing base of exhibitors from around the world,” commented Claire Sellick, group director for the Infosecurity Group at Reed Exhibitions. “Businesses are under constant pressure to evolve amid ever-changing challenges to their information security strategies so we are thrilled that the show has been able to provide these enterprises with a first-rate Education Programme, as well as a strong platform to launch and showcase their technology.” Next year, Infosecurity Europe will be celebrating its 20th year with a change in date and venue – the show will take place at London Olympia from 2nd to 4th June 2015.

SUBCON SHOW

Subcon Show - Best Selected Exhibitors BUSY AND SUCCESSFUL SUBCON SHOW 2014! A busy and successful Subcon exhibition underlined its importance as the UK’s only event dedicated to contract and subcontract manufacturing. Exhibitors commented on the extremely high quality of visitors, including top buyers from blue-chip manufacturers such as Jaguar Land Rover, BAE Systems and JCB, and this was reflected in the number of companies booking their stands for the 2015 show. The organisers have already opened up additional space on the floor plan to meet demand. Many companies are also increasing their stand size in 2015 because it has proven to be the best way for them to reach new customers. According to exhibitor Gerry Dunne of Westley Engineering and the Midlands Assembly Network, Subcon has been much better for them than other events they have attended. He added: “The quality of visitors has been even better than previous years. It has been very good for us and we have already booked to come back in 2015 with a bigger stand.” David Lindsay of Laser Process emphasised that Subcon was a place where people come to do business, saying: “We have had a good show with a good number of quality leads. Everyone seemed very positive and there were certainly people with work to place.” The strong presence of trade associations at Subcon looks set to continue, with many of the participating organisations expecting to extend their presence next year. Chris Gladwin of the British Turned Parts Manufacturers Association (BTMA) said: “From the point of view of the BTMA it was a very good show with an excellent quality of visitors. And on the basis of the feedback I’ve had, it has been good for our members too.

We have certainly been busy throughout the three days of the show and we have had the right visitors for us. Overall I would say it has been an excellent show – very well-organised. We are hoping to have a major presence of BTMA members at Subcon 2015.” One of the BTMA’s members, Bright Engineering, used the show to highlight its new name and ownership. Managing Director Jon Hoyle said: “This was the fifth time of exhibiting at Subcon, and exhibiting this year as BTMA members, the 2014 show was an excellent platform for us to re-launch Bright Engineering (North West) following a recent management buy-out and rebranding exercise. “We were delighted to see such a highly focused footfall at this year’s show and we returned to base with a folder full of fantastic leads. From an operational viewpoint, Subcon is a tremendously well-organised show and we will almost certainly be re-visiting next year.” As well as the business being done, highlights of the exhibition included a top-level conference with senior executives from Pratt & Whitney, Rolls Royce, BAE Systems and Siemens among the speakers as well as feature displays of the Bloodhound SSC and Skylon space plane. One of the prototype Mars Rover vehicles also had a spin round the show on the first day. Other notable features included a VIP lounge and networking zone sponsored by Truphone and the participation of UKTI – via presentations and one-to-one meetings – to show companies how it could help them export. Subcon returns to the NEC from 2 to 4 June 2015 and will be co-located with the Advanced Manufacturing Show and The Engineer Design & Innovation show.
