i’d do anything for money

was his job and again, he didn’t know anything different than doing that particular sport. If you had to do a photoshoot, which required you to wear make-up, would you do so? Yes I’d wear it, I’d do anything for money [laughs]. But if it was going to be publicly seen then I wouldn’t want to wear so much that people would notice. Boys aren’t meant to wear make-up.

We asked Bard Delaney, one of the most macho men we know a few questions on his childhood, rugby, and makeup. He’s twenty years of age, and seems to know exactly what he wants in life, to be a rugby player. Taking after his father, a former Leeds Rhinos player. How long have you played rugby? I’ve played rugby since i was nine years old, so about ten years. I’ve always loved getting mucky and running around the field.

What do you think of men that like to wear make-up and dress up as a woman? If a man was to wear makeup, then that’s his choice, he can do what he wants, it’s his life. I’m not going to lie, I would probably give him a double glance, it isn’t something you normally see everyday, is it? But like i said, it’s his choice, and he definitely shouldn’t be judged on what he wears or how he looks.

Have you always been a lads lad? Yeah I think I have really, I loved doing all the lad stuff for as long as I can remember. It’s how my dad has brought me up from a very young age, so I don’t really know anything different, as he has always been a lads lad. He used to play rugby for Leeds Rhinos when he was younger, it

Would you class them as different from you? Same as what I’ve just said, if it makesthem happy, wearing a dress or makeup then it really doesn’t have anything to do with me, or anybody else. Only different between me and them is that they like wearing make-up and dressing up . 6.

The effect that the media has on influencing individuals is becoming one of the most controversial topics to date. Truthfully, is this what every man looks like? No. Is this what some men want to look like? Some. Should they all be stereotyped in this way? Absolutely not. When asking Harry Feeney, from the male dominated macho sport of rugby what he thought of tackling ballet dancing, he was quick to fire it back to being a female specialty.

“Why would I want to do ballet- girls do ballet? That’s just like asking me to dress up as a woman.” Should this really be the case? Why is it classed as a predominately female interest? Many men are involved in ballet; it takes strength, muscle and balance to perform at a high level. Interestingly, the very same attributes needed for rugby but perceived very differently as Ian Jamie, a ballet teacher stated.

“Ballet dancing isn’t solely a feminine activity, it takes strength and a lot of muscle. In the famous words ‘Real men don’t lift weights, they lift women’. t’s true. I’d like to when see a lot of men try and do it and then get back to me.” The response given by Harry confronted with a pair of high heels he’d been asked to try on

“You must be joking? I can’t wear them, people will laugh AT ME”. Looking at the lipstick coming his way like a bullet to his heart. Or at least that’s what it seemed like to him. Wearing heels, or anything other than trainers or rugby boots for these typical machos is classed as ‘gay’ or effeminate. Is it gay? Or is it just a hidden side that some men like to reveal? Alex Reid for example, a famous cage fighter, the epitome of “machoman” was not one who looked like he showed a feminine side at all. He shocked us all when he came into the spotlight and declared his ‘extra’ hobby was dressing up as his female alter ego “Roxanne”.

“I’d see my sister’s clothes and underwear and I just put them on. It’s exciting pretending to be someone else, the fact that I know its wrong just makes it more exciting.” Some men find it easier to pretend that they like all the masculine sports and be fearless. Few like to stand out, however, it’s much easier to hide in a group and just fit in. It is becoming more apparent that it is not just women who are being affected by the media; it’s men as well.
