My Lights 37.376368, -122.026003 The first light bulb was invented in 1879. To replace the basic light bulb; 1. Take the bulb out of the socket. 2. Put a new bulb in the socket. The electric current is sent through filament, made possible by the element tungsten to produce light.

Luminesce For this series I wanted to take the equipment used for photography and use them in the photos as props, rather than using them only as behind the scene help. When doing this, it gave a reminder to how much lighting equipment plays into the quality and tone of a collection of photos.

Light

Manipulation

chroma // 28

It’s funny how the light plays tricks in your eyes, isn’t it? For this series, I tried to manipulate the face using light. I used my phone flashlight along with wineglasses, bottles, and paper cutouts to make dramatic shadows on my models’ faces. A lot of the photos took inspiration from photographers like Solve Sundsbo (Sølve Sundsbø). models: abby gordon and Madison liljedahl

Sun lights up the daytime Moon lights up the night I light up when you call my name And you know I’m going to treat you right You give me fever when you kiss me Fever when you hold me tight Fever in the morning Fever all through the night -Peggy Lee, Fever

Ink

had no idea where to start. I was looking through pages of google results fort “facial manipulation photography” (not the most creative way to find inspiration, but it worked) and I found photographs of double exposure portraits. I decided that’s what I wanted to do. I took photos of 5 models and was going to use 2 of each person in my series. This was the easiest part. I set up warm lights on either side of the model, and one cool light in front. This gave the photos a nice balance in color. After I was done shooting, I began to mess around in photoshop, trying to merge each models’ portrait with a landscape, and it looked horrible. I couldn’t get the two photos to harmonize. It was like oil and water. I was very angry, because I thought I’d found my inspiration, but it crumbled. Then I had an idea. I knew about an artist named Alberto Seveso who creates beautiful photos of ink in water and let people use them for whatever they need. I found some of his work and brought it into photoshop. I spent hours editing and and redoing work, mainly using the liquify tool to bend the ink into a shape that would move with the topography of each face. After about a week and a half, I’d finally found the product that I was satisfied with.

My Friend Aliyah Aliyah Petersen has been my model/ friend for many years now. And due to the overwhelming yet beloved amount of time we spend with one another, theres no doubt that there are/will be an overwhelming amount of photographs of her as well. I have always tried to stretch myself by photographing various people, but theres nothing like taking some good pictures with your best pal :). The photographs shown ahead of you are to different days consisting of two different adventures. So here’s to being able to capture those little moments and remember them in a more vivid light.
