A Biker’s Devotional By Dennis Reynolds Recently, a man who was a close relative to some of my family members passed away. To say my relationship with this person was tumultuous would be a gross understatement. As a matter of fact, he was horribly difficult to most of those who knew him, and he had a reputation as an instigator, a blow hard, and a know it all. Our paths first crossed more than thirty years ago. Almost from day one we did not get along, and by the time he died, we could not stand to be in the same room with each other for more than a few minutes. This person spent years ridiculing, bad mouthing, and trying to run down my reputation to anyone who would listen with half-truths, hate speak, and he regularly made clear his hatred for me and my side of the family. When I was told he had died, a flood of emotions overwhelmed me. Keep in mind, this was a man who would make negative remarks to me and about me on

every occasion where we were forced to be together. Regardless of whether it was a sporting event, graduation ceremony, church function, or family celebration, he made the most of almost every opportunity to take a verbal jab at me. To be honest, though I never started any argument with him, when he began his mouthing at me I would most often retaliate. Still, at the news of his death I was greatly saddened. I thought of how all those thirty years might have been different if not wasted on hatred. Early on the day of his funeral, I called a good brother of mine and we rode our motorcycles over to the funeral home before any visitors arrived. We walked in and I signed the guestbook, then we entered the room where his body was located. Regretfully, I recall as a young man thinking that I hoped I would live long enough to see him lying in a casket one day, believing it would be gratifying. Finally, that day had come, and there was no pleasure,

no sense of satisfaction, there was only sadness. As I looked at him in the casket, wearing his Sunday best, I knew what I had to do. While it was incredibly difficult, I walked up close to his body, leaned over him, and said, “For all you did to me, I forgive you.” At that moment, I felt a sense of relief wash over me. Where the past few days had been an emotional roller-coaster, now there was peace and closure. Not because he was gone, but because I had verbally voiced my forgiveness. My only regret is that I did not do voice my forgiveness to him while he was still alive. He would most likely have shrugged it off, but that doesn’t matter. I did not attend the funeral that day, instead we joined a group of brothers and sisters and headed out on a day ride through some of the most beautiful countryside South Carolina has to offer. During the ride as I reflected on the past thirty years, and then on my last earthly moments with him that morning, I realized some things. First, we do not forgive people because THEY deserve it, we forgive people because WE deserve it. Forgiving someone is not for

them, it is for us. Second, forgiveness

releases us from the bond the offender holds over us. No matter what someone has done to us, when we forgive them they can no longer control our emotions. Third, forgiveness is a gift from God that allows us to move forward. I have never had such peace when thinking of him as I did the day I verbally spoke forgiveness to him, regardless of whether he could hear me or not. Thoughts of him no longer have an emotional effect on me. Finally, God calls for us to forgive others as He has forgiven us. Remember, no matter what we have done, no matter what our life situation may be, if we have put our trust in Jesus Christ, he has forgiven us. He calls on us to do the same. “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” Colossians 3:13 (NIV)

Dr. Dilligaf

Got something to ask dr. dilligaf?? send it to carolinachrome@yahoo.com Dr. Dilligaf, I’ve been reading your column for several years now and I’ve always looked forward to reading your take on things. I sometimes disagree but that’s what make us individuals. I used to find your articles hilarious, but I’ve noticed lately that you seem to have a taken a serious bent. What gives, are you getting older and softer? Has someone else assumed your identity? Where’s that funny guy? Inquiring minds want to know. Curious in Lexington Curious, You didn’t have to put ‘in Lexington”. If you’re looking for curious there is no better place to look than Lexington. That’s right, I called you out, but we all know that you only have a Lexington address and that you really live in Red Bank. And we further know that the people who live in Red Bank really wanted to live in Gilbert but can’t afford the extra gas. You know how to recognize someone from Red Bank don’t you? Go to the beach with them and look for the gall bladder surgery scar. Healthy gall bladders in Red Bank can only be found in children and visitors. And by visitors I don’t mean the people from Gaston and Pelion who come to fight for the toilet paper and Lysol at Wal-Mart. I mean the ones who rent the cheap hotel rooms there @ 6 and I-20. And speaking of I-20 I understand that they will have the repairs finished as soon as South Carolina becomes the national leader in Elementary Education. But to answer your questions, yes, I’m getting older. If I weren’t, I would be freaking wealthy from learning how to avoid aging. Softer, I think by now I’ve answered that for you already. But I’ll say it loud for those not paying attention. WHEN I GO SOFT THE END IS NEAR. Either for me or everyone. No one has assumed my identity, no one wants it. My pay was doubled last year. It went from nothing to double naught as Jethro Bodine would say. (Ask your parents about that one). The funny guy you remember has a joke or two for you.

Q. How do Biblical scholars know that King David rode a motorcycle? A. Because in the Bible, it says that David’s Triumph could be heard throughout the land... Q: What do you call a group of Harley Owners with a collective IQ of 120? A: Sturgis! Q: How is a Harley Davidson like a Porcupine? A: Both have pricks on their back. Q: How is a Harley Davidson like an old dog? A: If you leave them alone long enough, they’ll both mark their territory. Q: What is the difference between a Harley Davidson and an old dog? A: The dog can get in the back of the pickup by itself. Q: Why do Harley owners have tassels on their handlebars and clothing? A: To be able to tell if they’re moving or not! Alright, next month I hope someone send an interesting question in. Dr. Dilliagaf

Hey everyone, I’ve got contest for you! Answer this correctly for a free Carolina Chrome T-shirt. (A new one, not the one I had on Monday). When riding in a group, not a procession. You know, casual weekend road tripping with friend’s kind of riding. How many bikes are the recommended maximum before you should break up into smaller groups? Send your answers to ChromeSC.com or visit my FB page ~Dr. Dilligaf. See you all somewhere. The Dr is out.

Chrome Comedy Corner Date Gone Wrong One night I was hanging out with my younger brother’s friends at a house party. They were mostly freshmen in college while I was a junior. I ended up taking one of the girls back to my place for the night. The sex was mutually terrible. She’s pretty cute and funny, but the next morning, she looked like shit. We both had to go back to our hometown (two hours away by ferry) to be with our families and hometown friends for the Fourth of July, and I felt obligated to give her a ride. I had to deliver a short, sweaty girl in a cotton dress and uggs back to her family on my beautiful motorcycle. I don’t know what the term is for the opposite of eye candy, but that’s what she was riding on the back of my bike in a homecoming parade of shame for all to see. She knew it. I knew it. It was the worst. I hope she doesn’t read this, because I still think she’s really cool and I’m being really unfair to her. She just happened to be a nasty fleshbeast that day and it ruined my relationship with my bike. We broke up a few weeks later (the bike and I).

“If It’s Not FUN, You’re Doing It WRONG!” Don’t Be “THAT” Girl!

One night I met a girl at a sports bar for a date. We played some pool, drank a bit (waited until I was completely sober before driving), and then decided to head back to her place. A motorcycle patrolman was rushed to hospital with an inflamed appendix. The doctors operated on him and when he came round he was relieved when they told him all had gone to plan and he was going to be fine. He was worried ***************************** that something may be wrong he was still too weak from Q: What do you call but the surgery to do anything. a vicar on Eventually, he managed to a motorcycle? pull his hospital gown down enough to check what was causing the discomfort.
