Dr. Dilligaf Dr. Dilligaf, I am about to purchase my first motorcycle. Because of the intrigue and reputation of Harley Davidson Motorcycles I am leaning towards the purchase of one of their machines. Which one do you suggest for me to start on? ~Newbie Rider Newbie Rider, Hey Girl. You have put me in touch with my feminine side this morning. That is a small side that I am seldom in touch with although I admit to touching my male side regularly. I have questions and I am throwing them like fast balls. How tall are you? How much to do weigh? What type of riding do you plan to do? What is your financial status? Do you have a motorcycle license? What part of the world do you live in? Do you have any physical infirmities? Have you always been this naïve? Did you write this letter just for attention? What is your age? And finally, what is your name and number? I have lots of friends looking for a girl like you. Seriously, I recommend that first you take a rider’s instruction course and get your motorcycle license. With a license in hand you can then go to a HD dealership and test drive any of their machines. Put some thought into the questions that I asked because believe it or not some of them are important in deciding what motorcycle is appropriate for what you envision for yourself. Good luck and I hope to see you in the wind. Dr. Dilligaf

Screw It, Lets Ride!

That says it all and all that matters on the Bub Lollis Whitten Center Ride Day!

If you have never had this experience and made this ride its one worth considering. It about that time again folks for the 32nd Annual Bub Lollis Whitten Center Ride coming up Sunday October 31st. Halloween Day will be our Homecoming back to the Whitten Center Campus for all activities followed up with a parade from the campus to downtown Clinton, SC and back through the Whitten Center to see all the residents dressed in their best costumes lining the streets throughout. Since the Covid Pandemic we have not been able

to stop and interact but now under new administration tired of their residents being shut out and sheltered from the outside world our motorcycle community gets to return in person and bring joy to our friends that call the Whitten Center their home. This event is brought you by the Woodlawn Ramblers MC who will be set up selling Bub Lollis Whitten Center commemorative shirts, raffle tickets for cool items and 50/50 tickets for cash. Also, the WRMC will be presenting a barrel top “Screw It, Let’s Ride” plaque for the MC, RC and other motorcycle related club with the most members in attendance. The Sons of the South MC have taken this award home the past three years and already asking about #4 so you’ll have to bring it to beat these outstanding group of guys. There will be a live band (TBD)playing from 12-3 and food and beverage provided by the Whitten Center Parents association.

This morning, as I looked down and laced my dirty, worn riding boots (left over right of course), I was reminded of all the places my various boots have taken me over the years. Places like New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, all over the East Coast, several trips out west, and even cross country to San Diego. Then, I asked myself these questions, “All the places Between the Army and working as a lineman for more than the boots have carried me, Have I been faithful to share one electrical contractor and then the phone company, boots Jesus? My footwear choices for motorcycling in the early days were mostly those western style safety boots. They seemed comfortable, durable, and they looked cool. Also, if you were to get in a scuffle with someone, a steel toe to the shin or knee could make an aggressor drop to the ground and think twice before coming back for more.

The good thing is, God tells us in his word that He can wipe all that old stuff away and give us a second chance. No matter where our boots have taken us in the past, today we can change the path they walk if we decide to follow Him!

Don’t be an IGNORANT rider...

26

CHROMESC.COM

It’s That Time Of The Year! Large Group Rides

A few friendly reminders; BEFORE your show up to the ride, make sure to make a fuel stop to top off your tank... Don’t be that guy/gal!! Be Mindful of ALL Skill Levels of Riders

Every group/ride/parade will have a variable riding experience.

Photography by Retread Event; Fixing The Potholes

The key is to keep each rider comfortable and safe, so having the least experience toward the middle of the pack is recommended. This position will allow them a visual guide from riders in the front to indicate oncoming items to note (like traffic and road conditions). More experienced riders behind them will be able to keep aggressive drivers from disturbing them from the rear also. The lead and tail riders should have the most experience as they can adjust to traffic the best and protect the other riders from traffic and road debris. Ride in a staggered formation during the straight sections of the ride. The lead rider should take a position in the left third of the riding lane. In a curvy section of road, each rider should ride in a single-file line approximately two seconds apart.
