A Visit to C&C Thunder
Article & Pictures By Wally Wersching I had heard about C&C Thunder in Cowpens, SC for quite a while but never been there. On Wednesday, February 24th, I decided to take a ride there. It was a beautiful early spring afternoon with temps in the high 60’s. I knew about where it was, so I headed south toward Gaffney. I turned right onto Rt 29. I could have taken I85 but with all the construction, I thought that Rt 29 would be more enjoyable – I was right! Rt 29 changes from a two-lane to a four lane a few times on its way to Cowpens. I passed many large factories on the way. Before I knew it, I was in Cowpens. Cowpens is a quaint small Southern town. There are many small shops on Main Street along with large old homes. After passing through the main part of Cowpens, I saw C&C Thunder on the left, and pulled into the parking lot next to a Victory Highball. “Miss Vickie” has a way of finding her relatives wherever we go. When I walked through the door, I met Caleb “Calo” – the parts manager. I gave him a few magazines for his magazine rack. We started talking, and he has a personality that makes you feel welcome. After a few minutes, we were talking like we knew each other for a long time - laughing and cutting up. As we talked, I learned that C&C Thunder has been a real “Speed Shop” for over 20 years. They have all the tools, machines, and knowhow to build a very fast motorcycle – even a Dyno in the basement. They work on both carbureted and fuel injected bikes. One of their customers was there confirming everything “Calo” was saying because he has owns of the fastest bikes they ever built. They also sell bikes, accessories, leathers, apparel, wheels & tires, and parts. They are a complete bike shop. According to “Calo” they can do anything you want to your bike. They enjoy making your bike go faster while making it more reliable. I didn’t ask their prices because I don’t want “Miss Vickie” to go any faster. She’s fast enough for me the way she is.
Check out their website candcthunder.com or their Facebook page C & C Thunder Custom Cycles. They sound like the “real deal”.

We have 21 Chapters located throughout the state of South Carolina and are always encouraging other American Legion Posts to start ALR Chapters. So who are we?? We are everyday people. You may see us around town and never know we even exist. Most of us are very proud of our Military service, as well as our continued service to the community. We live in the area, Sandy Run, Pelion, Swansea, Gaston, other areas around Lexington County, even some from out of state. We have a few common traits, love of Country, Military service, support for our Community, and of course our love of Motorcycles. We ride to bring recognition to the American Legion. Full Restoration
Monthly Devotional
Dale’s Wheels Through Time is home to
the world’s premier collection of rare motorcycles, memorabilia, and a distinct array of unique “one-off” American automobiles. Located in Maggie Valley, North Carolina the museum houses a collection of over 300 rare machines. Dale’s Wheels Through Time was originally founded by a guy named Dale Walksler who was a master when it came to American motorcycles. Sadly, Dale passed away last year from cancer, and the museum has since been run by his son Matt. Every year since 2003, Dale’s Wheels Through Time has raffled off some type of professionally restored classic American motorcycle. Over the years, they have given away an assortment of bikes including a ’36 Knucklehead, a ’32 Flathead Bobber, ‘46 Knucklehead, and last year a beautiful ’48 Panhead went to a gentleman from Ohio. Each of these motorcycles were fully restored to like new, immaculate condition from the ground up. If you have ever taken on any full restoration vehicle project, you understand what an expensive and painstaking process this can be. While I have neither the patience nor the desire to attempt such an overwhelming task, I know many people who have. I have watched family members and friends throw things, kick parts across the shop floor, and use the most colorful language imaginable in the name of “Full Restoration.” Today, at the famous HD factory, it roughly takes a mere 100 minutes for workers to assemble 1400 parts into a new Harley Davidson motorcycle on a 46-station assembly line. Pretty quick huh? A full frame up restoration of an older bike however, averages three months to a year for completion according to the folks at Dale’s Wheels Through Time depending on availability of parts. So, why would someone take on the task of making a rusted up old motorcycle look new again?
The answer is simple… Love Love!! To take something apart, then meticulously sand, paint, polish, rebuild, and reassemble, requires a sacrifice of time and finances that most people are just not willing to give. It is truly a labor of love.
18
old Dale loved motorcycles and every time I spoke with him, he was excited to show off his bikes tell where they had come from. He talked of the smallest details, reverence for the original builders, and the love he had for the art of motorcycling. When Dale Walksler looked upon an old rusted-up pile of two wheeled junk, he saw only the beauty underneath the grease and grit.
God views us the same way! No matter what our current situation may be, God sees us as His most beautiful creations. We may have come from abusive relationships, the loss of loved ones, or addiction. Our lives may be covered in the grit and grime of bad life choices that have resulted in the belief that we are nothing but worthless junk. People may even view us as such, but not God. Just as the folks at Dale’s Wheels Through Time take old junk motorcycles and restore them to like new condition to give away, God can “fully restore” us as well. If we put our trust in Jesus, He will take our old dirty, nasty, sin ridden lives and give us a new outlook and direction. You see, when we deserved it least, God sent His son Jesus to die for us to pay the price for our salvation. Why? Just because he loves us!
To be allowed a new start… Regardless of our history… What an amazing gift! And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 1 Peter 5:10

Are YOU Part Of The PROBLEM or Part Of The SOLUTION SOLUTION? -Do you have a parent on the road? -Do you have a child driving in South Carolina? -Or what about YOU? Would YOU want to know; YOU are doing the best you can do, to arrive home, safe at night ?
Could YOU wake up or go to bed every day, knowing that YOU killed someone? Or what would the changes in your life be, if someone killed your loved one? Is a text message or a social media “update” worth you living the rest of your life in dispair? I personally enjoy riding down the road with my phone on Airplane Mode (sometimes), with the music up and the wind through my hair... I mean really, I miss a call and what? The person on the other end of the phone is not the BOSS of me!! And I couldn’t imagine paying higher vehicle insurance because I wanted to see my news feed I can answer; YES!! to all 3 questions! which features the same couple fighting again or someone taking a picture of their dinner or some As a biker, a mother, a wife, a child, a granddaughter and a friend; I am faced with the reality NEW couple being “in love” and thinking life is of todays society. I understand that social media, perfect... OR ....OMG, THAT PERSON that lives the PERFECT life on social media but is a true text messaging and digital correspondence, in train wreck in REAL life! Are these people worth general, has become our social interactions today.... BUT that doesn’t mean it’s always the right your freedom or sanity?? For real, for real.... Just think about it. thing to do!
Is it worth it?

Facts show: due to “distractive driving”, insurance could increase rates of an average of 6% to 9% within a single year and the government could approve another 3% to 6% in light of growing texting and driving trends!
