Dr. Dilligaf Got something to ask dr. dilligaf??

send it to carolinachrome@yahoo.com

Dr. Dilligaf, I get the thrill of a motorcycle and think it is great that people like to ride them. But two things do puzzle me. Why do you have to look so rough? You know, all black, tats, beards, etc. And secondly, why is it necessary to have loud mufflers? Can’t you quiet those damn things down? Hank Reardon Hank, I believe that people get upset, angry, disturbed or bothered by the things that they choose. What annoys one person another may never even notice. People also tend to become laser focused on those things. It is all about perception and a person’s perception is their reality. And your reality needs a check. People who ride motorcycles today are a mix of all kinds of backgrounds and experiences. Most of them do not fit your description of looking rough. Matter of fact with the popularity of women riders today I would venture to say many of them look anything but rough. Subsequently if I see any of them tatted and bearded, I think I will run the other way. But there are a good many riders who do wear all black, are fully tatted and sport some bodacious beards. They are looking to exude that bad boy image. Relax, it is not to impress you. (at least I hope not). It is to impress the ladies. Do not tell anyone but there are a lot of women who are attracted to bad boys. Others are trying to personify the old school biker look. Wannabes and the like. Other than that, sometimes it is just a matter of practicality. If it is cold weather, I’m probably going to put on a leather jacket, leather chaps and leather gloves. All black, primarily because most cows are black. Of course, there are brown cows, but all those Indian riders are using them for tassels and hula skirts. As far as tattoos go, they are now a part of today’s culture. Your barber, firemen, the girl who does your mani-pedi are all likely to be inked up. So how does all this fit into your stereotype? Is your narrow focus widening? I hope so. Bikers are not all alike. As far as the loud pipe’s thing goes there are a couple of reasons. But I must first ask a question. Why isn’t your focus on Mopeds or Mustangs? The two of those dastardly things are like chihuahuas, all bark and no bite. You hear them screaming down the highway and look toward the noise and it has preceded them by 50 yards. Bikers run loud pipes for two basic reasons. For me it is about performance. A good high-performance exhaust is going to generate a bit more noise than a stock set up. That is true whether you are talking about a motorcycle or a car. I can quiet them down but why would I? Your happiness is not my responsibility it is yours. The US Constitution gives us all the right to pursue happiness, but it does not guarantee it. Once again,

we are bothered by what we choose to be bothered by. Why not be bothered by the fact that Sudanese Christians are being persecuted, killed or sold into slavery at an alarming rate and not even the UN gives a s____? The second reason people run loud pipes is to make their presence known. They can save lives, but they do not always work in that way. I have oft times wondered why a deer will hear a twig snap in the woods and run like his life depended on it but will step right in front of a loud Harley with LED lights bright enough to coon hunt with. I have however personally witnessed car drivers become cognizant of the presence of a motorcycle simply by hearing the pipes prior to ever visually seeing it. And unlike a Moped or a Mustang the sound is usually representative of the actual location of the motorcycle. Thanks for your letter and try to find something else to concern yourself with. Bikers will be bikers and everyone else will just be dull. Dr. Dilligaf

The Punishers LE/MC, Swamp Foxes chapter, held the 4th annual Harold Kennington Memorial Ride on September 19, 2020. The ride started and ended at JR’s in Hartsville and included stops at Ruby’s Bar and Grill, Gadgets of Camden and Mary’s Bar. All proceeds went to Brylee Denham, a beautiful, fearless 3 year old who is battling leukemia. The Swamp Foxes were able to present Brylee with $4,484.00 after all donations were in to assist with her expenses. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing Harold Kennington knows he was always willing to participate in benefit rides and help anyone in need. Brylee capped off her day by riding both a Harley and then a Spyder and even had a motorcycle escort to grab a strawberry milkshake. Her day was complete after she perfected her pool skills at JR’s.
