president’s letter

Hello my wonderful members! I hope you had a nice winter break and had a chance to replenish yourself. It’s halfway through the school year, so keep working hard! It’s the time of year where we are preparing for the end of the term. That means elections are coming up! Non Executive (bulletin editor, historian, SAA) elections will be held on February 1st, and executive (president, vice president, secretary, treasurer) will be held on February 8th. Remember that you must be a paid member to vote, so turn in your $16 and member application ASAP to Ms. Wong! Make sure you be there to decide the board for next year! Remember to sign up for upcoming events, such as January DCM and the wrestling tournament. You’ll need 45 hours in order to get inducted in the spring! With all my heart, Katlyn Wong 4

Hi everyone! I hope those who attended the Holiday Kettle Bell Ringing enjoyed their time singing Christmas carols (it looked very fun to be there). Upcoming events such as the wrestling tournament at the end of January will be a great opportunity to earn hours, as it is the biggest tournament, and we will need a hefty amount of volunteers to help out. Keep being active and encourage fellow members to attend service events. See you next month! Best wishes, Lyann Gao

12.16.17

I first signed up for the Holiday Kettle Bell Ringing (12/16) mainly due to its proximity to my house. People had said that we were to carol in front of Wal-Mart and for the longest time, I didn't believe them. I had thought it would be so strange if we actually had to sing in front of shoppers! But when I got there, sure enough, I was given an apron, a bell, and pages of classic Christmas songs. I had thought to myself, “Oh no what have I gotten myself into for four hours?!” But once we got to singing, it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Time went by pretty quickly and we even got a few compliments once in a while. As an added bonus, we got a mini lunch break and were able to buy fries from the McDonald's inside Walmart! Also, a shout out to Joe and Reese, two people who have such amazing voices and who were kind enough to share their time with us! All in all, it was a really fun event, I was able to talk to new people in Key Club and raise money for Salvation Army. I now have a newfound respect for the people who stand outside by themselves raising money! I know the people I was with really made the experience enjoyable and worth it. I also learned that singing the Twelve Days of Christmas song is quite a bit of work…

Honestly the Holiday Kettle Bell Ringing was so much fun! I love Christmas and everything about it, so it felt good to help give back on a holiday so close to my heart. It was really fun singing christmas carols outside of Walmart with my fellow key clubbers and some really nice Kiwanis! Even just ringing the bell or joking around with my friends made my heart so happy! Plus, it really helped put everyone in the Christmas season. I would do this event again in a heartbeat. Definitely one of my favorites of the whole year!

The Holiday Kettle Bell Ringing was an event I really enjoyed. At first, I felt extremely shy as I had to wish people Merry Christmas while ringing a bell in front of the whole store. It’s a bit of a challenge having to confront people you don’t know but once you’ve been doing it for a while, you start to get a hang of it. Surprisingly, everyone was very kind and welcoming. The overall feeling I would describe in this cold afternoon, would be warm and cheerful because of the bright energy that emitted from us all. My friends really had a big part in this event and without them we wouldn’t be able to raise money for the Salvation Army. It felt good knowing I was helping people and encouraging a great Christmas-like atmosphere. We went all out while singing Christmas Carols and were very flattered when people complimented us and donated. This event is great for people who want to spread happiness to others while contributing to the community. If I were to have the opportunity to do this event, I would gladly do it again!

The Salvation Army Bell Ringing at Walmart has to be an event I've looked forward to since I did it last year. It has to be one of my favorite events among others. You get to stand outside the store and sing Christmas Carols for a cause. It's amazing to see it make some people happy as they walk into the store and it's all worth it for the Christmas cheer as well as the donations. I will always tell people to come to this event simply because you get to socialize with people you never gotten the chance to speak to before and sing together. Although I myself, cannot sing to save my life I still enjoy singing and I don't feel judged for not being able to sing. We get to laugh and be together as a Key Club Family. I truly wish I had joined Key Club Freshman year solely for this event. I encourage anyone too shy to speak at meetings or in general to fellow key clubbers to sign up for this event next year and just have fun. You don't have to be able to sing or anything, it does however help if you can sing to drown out my screaming and off key notes. Until next year for my yearly article about the Bell Ringing.
