I don’t have many more of these left to write as retirement is nearing! Now we have the new elects for the 2018-2019 term! Everyone please congratulate them; we are so excited for the upcoming year to see how they’ll help the club grow. It was a great month of service, and I hope you’re ready to serve some more! We still have Chinese New Year festival and Dance Marathon to look forward to as well. If you still need to be inducted for the spring, remember that you need 45 hours, so plan accordingly! If you reached 25 hours by the winter deadline, you do not need to worry about it. Lastly, for you seniors, cords are available for graduation!! If you meet the requirements, you must let us know if you would like them by March 1st! Enjoy the five-day weekend, and stay safe!

With all my heart, Katlyn Wong

Hi everyone! Thank you to the members who attended the Wrestling Tournament; you guys were a huge help and even though some were a little frightened of some referees or were confused, you pushed through and persevered! I love seeing the consistency in a lot of our members who continue attending events and it really warms my heart to see those wholly dedicated to key club. Keep being active and encourage fellow members to attend service events. See you next month! Best wishes, Lyann Gao

I expected wrestling tournament to be an event where I “actually” volunteered instead of waiting for shifts to open, but I was glad to help out in every little bit that I could. I had signed up for both days, Friday and Saturday, but the first day was pretty slow as all shifts were booked up and overflowing. I was left waiting for a shift to open for almost four hours until the last twenty minutes before I had to leave consisted of me almost tripping on the mat to yell, “five, four, three, two, one” to the referee. The following day wasn’t bad at all as I didn’t have to wait so long to get a shift. I was really anxious at first thinking I might be in charge of the scoring, but the upperclassmen were kind to help me out. Instead, I took over the role of videotaping the matches which were nice to use to zoom in and out on the action. I can’t wait until the next year for the action to begin again.

The last wrestling tournament was the second I've been to so far. There were people who needed to keep score, manage the camera, and yell at the refs when the time was up. I was the one calling the time. On Friday I didn't even have a job until around the last 10-15 minutes because all the tables were already overflowing with volunteers. On Saturday, I almost immediately got a place to work and I met some new people while there. Overall, it was a great experience and I encourage everyone to go. I hope the next tournament will be just as fun!

The Clark January 2018 Wrestling Tournament was definitely one of the busiest and hectic tournaments I have attended throughout my years in Key Club, but it was surely an enjoyable event. I worked at the concessions stand and helped with money. It was fun to get to know other Key Clubbers at the stand and interact with customers. I hope to work this event again in the future!

The wrestling was fun yet tiring, and personally it went better than last year's wrestling tournament. I really enjoy volunteering for this event, because I get to do it with my friends and get through this hectic event with them. It was also great being able to support my wrestler friends whenever they came over to my mat. Despite being yelled at by the coaches whenever something was right I will still work this event next year.

The tournament was fairly successful on multiple ends. I worked both at the point system and the food table so I could say how well it was coordinated. For the food table, the food sold out at a reasonable rate. We were selling water, soda, Gatorade, hot dogs, fruit, nachos, burgers, cheeseburgers, philly sandwich, cake, granola bars and bacon wrapped hot dogs (my favorite on the menu). Towards the end of the event, we had to erase a couple items from the whiteboard to show that they sold out. The point system was also well organized. We actually had an overflow of people because we had other clubs helping with the event so some people were actually just replacements for the later shifts on the first day. On the second day, we just had people group up in five for each table. Some had less, others had more but it worked out fine because you only need at least three people per station. The event ended early both shifts because of everyone's hard work and dedication, both the volunteers and the competitors.

Wrestling Tournament last Saturday was a more exciting and action packed event that I have served at. Scorekeeping is a bit of a hassle, but you eventually get the hang of it, along with camera duty and tapping duty being less difficult, but much more engaging. Being able to see many high schools compete against each other in a tournament really opens your eyes to the wrestling sport, and giving opportunities to experience other sports as well. If you have not been to a wrestling tournament, to serve or even spectate, definitely pounce at any opportunity given. It's an appealing sport you wouldn't want to miss.

The wrestling tournament was a wonderful event to meet new people and volunteer. We got to meet students from different school across Las Vegas. It was interesting to the wrestlers be in their element and compete amongst each other. Additionally, the referees was extremely kind. All of them were open to help us with the point taking system when they saw we were struggling. Thanks to their help, we got learn how to use the point system and the gestures associated with each each action. Overall, it's a great opportunity for hours and socializing.
