president’s letter Hello Chargers! Just like that, summer has gone by, but no fear! That just means there's a whole year of Key Club fun ahead of us. The year is already heading into full swing! Our first two events of the school year are Camp Key Club and the Annual School Clean Up, so I hope to see you there! I'm so excited to see new faces in the club and getting closer to each and every one of you. Keep your grades up and stay smiling! With all my love, Katlyn Wong

editor’s letter Hello, Chargers! Back to school season is creeping up, but fret not! The closer to school we are, the closer the first general meeting for key club is. For incoming freshman -- come join us for the first meeting on Thursday, August 17. And for returning members -encourage your friends to attend and join as well! Best wishes, Lyann Gao

MEMBER OF THE MONTH

RONALD MCDONALD 7.14.17 On July 14th, Clark Key Club cooked dinner for the Ronald McDonald house. It was loads of fun! We were given a tour of the house and were able to see how much of a home these families had! The Ronald 「 Dhimantha Daswatta 」 McDonald house’s main goal is the ensure families felt welcomed and cared for. The house has bedrooms, computers, games, and even a backyard full of toys and activities! It truly was a home. As for the actual service, we made chicken stir fry and brownies for the families that were staying there! I brought the supplies for the meal, however I overcalculated and brought way too much heh heh. I was in charge of cutting the celery and broccoli, while the others made the brownies, and cooked the meal. It was very satisfying knowing we helped feed families in need. We were even invited to eat with them! This event was very heartwarming, and I hope many sign up to help next time too!

DRESS FOR SUCCESS 7.29.17 I attended the Dress for Success Power Walk on July 29th, and it was a very fun event. Dress for Success is a local organization that supplies women in poverty with professional attire to help with employment, and they also help provide job training opportunities to women who need it. They hope to empower women to break the cycle of poverty. It was very heartwarming to be able to see so many people walking and supporting the cause. There were many booths that were willing to donate their time to the event as well, and I was able to expose myself to different companies I never knew about. While many walks are outside, this one happened to be inside the Miracle Mile Mall, so it was pleasant to be in an air conditioned building in the hot summer. We helped stamp cards for the walkers to be entered in a raffle, and we had a chance to talk to many of them. I admire Dress for Success, and they express great gratitude to their volunteers. I would definitely volunteer for them when given the chance!

「 Lyann Gao 」 Although Dress for Success was so early (for the summer especially), it was definitely worth it. The people running the event were so lovely to us and our tasks were simple to do; we stamped the walkers’ cards. Each person received a card with a number, and if the number matched the table number of the vendors then they would win that vendor’s prize! The most exciting part was watching people win their gifts and seeing such a big smile on their face (a little second grader won a beauty gift basket at the table I was working at, which was adorable to say the least). When we finished helping out at the event, we were given swag bags as a little thank you! Incredibly sweet people, a fun event, and a lovely morning to start the day off.
