from the editor Hey Chargers! Welcome to the third edition of Charger’s Corner. Three months into my term already? I can’t believe it. Admittedly, we did not have as many service events this past month as we usually do, but it was great to see many of you at the events we did have. You guys always remind me how blessed I am to serve a club as great as you are. I love y’all. Keep on the watch for upcoming Key Club events and service opportunities! Just because school ended, it doesn’t mean that we stop helping the community! Summer is a great time to get a head start on your hours, making certain that you have enough to get inducted during the upcoming school year.

Have a great summer, stay cool, and keep serving! Serving With Spirit,

Katrina Orevillo

president’s page Hello Clarkies! How is your summer going? Hopefully it's going great! Unfortunately, we weren't able to have that many events in the month of June due to some complications, but don't worry because we are working on trying to reschedule our Summer Social! The summer fun and service hasn't gone away at all. Stay tuned for the month of July, because we will be trying out an event with a different charity called Project 150. When it comes time for that hopefully rescheduled Summer Social, feel free to invite incoming freshman who are interested in joining Key Club in the fall. I really look forward to seeing everyone extremely soon. Hopefully I get to see lots of you for the Kiwanis Fireworks Booth! We have a few spots open still so sign up and don't forget those medical forms. With the power of love and friendship,

Kelly Tay

JUNE 2016 5

The Ronald McDonald House is this event where we cook for the families of sick children that come to the house from other places, like California. It is a really fun event and I like it. I learned how to cut chicken, and it was fun!

At the Ronald McDonald House, we get to cook for families of children who are sick and can’t afford to stay in hotels or places like that. It’s really fun, we get to cook, and who doesn’t love that?

- Evonie villarete

The Ronald McDonald event is definitely really helpful and is a good experience for everyone. I would definitely recommend it to everybody, to try and get active with the community and everyone in Key Club. It’s a great experience!

+ summer

olympics

The June DCM/Summer Olympics was an incredible event. Not only were we able to be updated about the news within our division, we were able to make bonds with new people through the random team assignments for the Olympics. We played icebreakers and relay games, bringing about competitiveness, excitement and teamwork. Overall this event allowed us to make friends with people from all over Region 5, and further the spirit that only Key Club has. This event was a great way to kick off the summer!

The June/July Joint DCM with D28S & D28N that I attended on June 15 held at Sunset Park was an amazing experience. At the DCM, our Bulletin Editor, Katrina Orevillo, received Officer of the Month! I had participated in the Olympic Games which was extremely fun. There were competitions with hula hoops, water balloons, ping pong balls, and cookies. Everyone was so energetic and happy. Not only was it fun, but I also met new friends from other schools. It was really cool to know that all my teammates in the Olympic Games were all officers in their clubs. I liked how everyone had a great time with their teams just like I did. This DCM was very enjoyable because it was full of laughter and fun; I am looking forward to attending another DCM!

To me, Key Club means people getting together to helping others and truly creating a family like environment where everyone feels comfortable. Key Club accepts everyone with open arms and teaches everyone how to be a little more compassionate. It is also a chance to open many new doors, a chance to meet great people, and to build a better future. By joining Key Club this past year, my freshman year, I have personally felt that I have become a better person. I have also met dozens of new people that I may not have met if it were not for this club. Key club not only motivates and benefits students, but it truly helps the community a lot. The “key part of key club is service, and by motivating Key Clubbers to serve the community, it not only benefits the community, but us as well. Through service, we learn to work with others and that the sight of smiles on other people's faces is what truly make the hard work worth it. This is what key club means to me and what also what makes this an incredible club.

why should I go? Regional Training Conference is an amazing event that highlights one's key club year. RTC is where one can learn about Key Club through various workshops, reunite with old friends, as well as make new friends from all over Vegas. From spirit gear to competition cheers and a dance to end the night, RTC is a true vision of what key club is like as the atmosphere buzzes with spirit. This conference is crucial in ones journey through key club, and it's certainly an event you don't want to miss! Tiffany Bui, Vice President
