Hello everyone! Welcome to the 11th and FINAL issue of Chargers Corner. I hope that everyone is having a good month of March so far, and that you are all still participating in service! We have many events planned for the upcoming month, including the Japanese Spring Festival and Relay for Life! If you would like to see what other events will be occurring in the future, visit page 14! District Convention is also coming up, meaning that the 2016-2017 board will be retiring pretty soon. It is still such a shock to think that this is my last newsletter as your bulletin editor for the 2016-2017 Key Club term. It has been a real treat to read all the articles and pictures and compile newsletters filled with the good times our club has had over the past year. Thank you to everyone who helped me this year, from submitting pictures and articles, or even just reading these newsletters! Truly, it has been an honor to serve you! Serving With Spirit,

Hello, my loves! Can you believe that there is only one month left in the 2016-2017 term? I can't either! Your 2017-2018 main board officer elects are working hard to prepare for the start of their term! During the month of February, we attended the Chinese New Year Festival! This was an extremely long 2-day event, so thank you to everyone who attended and helped out. I hope everyone had fun trying out all kinds of foods! We also had our annual Super Smash Bros Tournament, helped out with the Assistance League Project, helped out for the first time at the Nevada Blind Children's Foundation and had our second Car Wash for DCON where we were able to raise over $200! Great job everyone! Looking into March, we have lots of exciting events coming up, such as the the Three Square Sort-A-Thon! We will also be having our Spring Park Social where there will be a scavenger hunt, but not a regular one. This will be the last social of the term so come and have fun and participate in the trash clean up service competition. There is one month left and I know we can push through! Keep serving, Chargers, and I hope to see you all at our weekly meetings! I love you all.

With the Power of Love and Friendship,

festival ARTICLE BY: SHALINI JAYAWEERA This was my fourth year volunteering at the Chinese New Year Festival, and I can honestly say it presents new challenges and memorable moments to me each year. This year, I volunteered for both the set-up and actual festival. I’ve never volunteered during the festival, so it was a fun experience for me. I spent the morning helping vendors unload their things and spent my evening selling soda and water for Key Club. My friend Michelle and I gave out fortune cookies to little kids who accompanied their parents to our booth, and it was the cutest thing to see their smile afterwards! The Chinese New Year Festival is a great example of having fun while doing service. Seeing all the performances from our booth was the perfect way to pass time, and being able to experience all the food from different restaurants was a great way to spend our break time! I definitely recommend future Key Club members and current ones to volunteer at the festival next year!

ARTICLE BY: KATLIN ZHOU The Chinese New Year Festival was really a great experience. I've never attended in past years and it was interesting to see what it was like. I got to work the ticket booth and I really enjoyed it. I got to peel paper and count money. The lady working there even asked me if the change was correct. That was pretty funny. But I think it was the perfect job for me because I'm quite fast at counting money and all. I also got to see some old friends, which was very cool! Overall, I think it was a really fun experience. I never thought I would see some old friends there but I did! It also gave me lots of experience for next time, so that I know what to do. I really did enjoy it while it lasted and I can't wait for the Japanese festival!

tournament ARTICLE BY: JASON LEE The Key Club Super Smash Bros Melee Tournament was definitely a time to remember. There were a lot of exciting sets, and a lot of stressful sets for the players. There were 2 separate brackets for Key Club and Smash Club. It was a double elimination bracket for both sides, meaning that losing in the upper bracket doesn’t mean you’re totally done, because you would have a second chance in the lower bracket. I got 7th place out of 10 people in the Smash Club bracket, which is bad but it’s ok. The overall winner was a Peach player named Rolex, who beat the Key Club bracket winner, Johnathan. With that, Smash Club took the tournament over Key Club. However, despite the low attendance (and my poor performance), I was very happy to participate in such a high-level Smash Bros tournament. Next time, I think a lot more people should join this event to make the tournament more competitive, and a lot more fun for the players and even the viewers!

kickoff ARTICLE BY: BRENT KIM The second Relay for Life Kickoff was enjoyable, despite the fact that it was on a Wednesday and many people could not show up. It was a lot bigger than the last kickoff because people knew what day it was on, and that is what made it more enjoyable. Like every other kickoff, it had other schools Key Clubs selling a diverse amount of things (mainly food/snacks) and people were playing musical chairs and Super Smash Bros. Near the end of the kickoff, there was a dance battle and rapping session between people from different schools which made it very exciting. ARTICLE BY: CASSANDRA ROCKWELL Relay for Life Kickoff was definitely an event to remember; I wasn’t able to attend Relay for Life last year or any of the Kickoffs so it was my first time going to a Kickoff and registering for the event. Kickoff was also a few days after I found out I was treasurer elect so I was excited to be trained during this event and help sell all the boba we had that day. Personally, one of the best things about Kickoff was working and hanging out with my fellow elects, current board, and general members and seeing friends from other schools! Throughout the night we were also reminded that all the money we raised goes to American Cancer Society which just makes it a million times better, since we were having a great time for a great cause! Kickoff definitely made me excited for Relay for Life and I can’t wait to see everyone there!

Hello!

My name is Nicole Kim, and I can say with the widest smile possible that I am absolutely thrilled to have the honor of serving Division 28 South as the 2017-2018 Lieutenant Governor! I nostalgically think back to middle school, where I would hear about Key Club from friends and their older siblings, looking forward to the fun cheering and hang outs I would be apart of, yet not truly being able to understand how amazing it really is. One of my fondest memories is my first meeting as a mere freshman standing amongst a crowd of new faces in a room I barely managed to find, anticipating what Key Club would really be like. It was this very meeting in which the seeds of service rooted deep in my heart. These seeds would bloom and blossom over time as I continue to serve my community and create memories I cherish for a lifetime. The abounding passion I have for this organization is never ending and only continues to grow as I fall deeper and deeper in love with the service, members, and the division I call home every single day. I’m excited to serve all of you!
