(Editor’s Message) Hey Chargers! This is my first newsletter as your 2016-2017 editor, and honestly, I couldn’t be happier to serve the organization I love so much. The school year is quickly coming to a close, and it’s really bittersweet. Personally, I’m excited to be moving forward into a new school year, and this new term as your club editor. I have so many ideas to share with you all. However, we will be saying goodbye to all of our seniors in a matter of weeks, and we wish them the best of luck in all they do. I can’t thank them enough for contributing to Clark Key Club, making it the amazing organization that it is for the rest of the club, people joining in the future, and me. For those of you not graduating yet, please also remember that we will be having events during the summer, so keep on the watch for updates! Serving With Spirit,
Katrina Orevillo
(President’s Note)
Hey everyone! My name is Kelly Tay and I serve as the 2016-2017 President. I act as a liaison between the club and our division, Division 28 West. I also am in charge of leading meetings, planning events, and many more! My goals for the terms include achieving over 8,000 hours of service, to increase membership and retention, and to bring the club I serve closer together. I can't believe that it has already been one month into our term and we are already making progress towards our goals! These past few weeks have been extremely busy with AP testing and End of Course exams but summer is approaching fast and we will all get there together! Remember to keep serving, even during the summer, and remember that I'm always here to help if you have any questions! With the power of love and friendship,
Kelly Tay

DCON
On April 8-10, I went to DCON for the very first time. After experiencing this adventure, I wish that I had gone the past two years of my Key Club journey. Key Club means a lot to me especially since it introduced me to my significant other. At DCON was where I would celebrate my two year anniversary and spend the weekend of a lifetime with my friends who were retiring and getting installed as the President of Ed W. Clark Key Club along with my board. At DCON, we went to workshops and met new people. I got to meet up with people I don't get to see often. There were lots of emotional moments, especially with the guest speakers and the performers. It is definitely something that you won't want to miss! I hope to see everyone at next year's District Convention in Anaheim! - KELLY TAY
Spread the Word
Spread the Word was a very fun and enjoyable experience that I attended along with my friends. It was my first time attending the event, and I loved it. At the event, we cleaned books that were in a bad condition and fixed it if possible to ensure it would be as if it was new. The books that weren’t able to fixed were put into recycling. Some of the books in bad condition had stickers, pencil markings, and bite marks. It was great to know that the books I cleaned were going to be given to children to read and enjoy. I liked how this event allowed me to have a fun time with my friends and meeting new people while I was cleaning books. As I was cleaning the books, it brought back childhood memories to the books I read when I was younger. This event was one of the best events that I had attended. I would definitely be volunteering at this event again and hopefully get more people to attend as well! - KIMMY LI
Aaron’s Banquet + April DCM
The April DCM/banquet was honestly such a great experience with amazing people! As a freshman who joined key club at the beginning of the school year and is still not quite used to the banquets, events, etc. it’s a beautiful thing to see all the different schools in our division get together to celebrate our accomplishments, lieutenant governor/division leadership team, and just our division in general. One of my favorite things about this banquet was seeing all of these friendships between kids who go to different schools but they met through mutual friends or from school before and they all just have this love for key club. I’m honestly so grateful I was able to attend this event! - CASSANDRA ROCKWELL

THANK YO
April 21st 2016 was a night to remember. As Aaron’s banquet and the April DCM were both held in the Clark High School cafeteria. Our beloved IP lieutenant governor (LTG) Aaron Quiamzon had his farewell banquet and emotions were high. And as leaves fall, new life will sprout, thus Aaron leaves his legacy and title to the New LTG Justin Zhou of Spring Valley high school. Justin’s first DCM went very well and I am proud to say I believe he will serve the district phenomenally this term. As for my experience, The gathering of so many Key clubs from all across our city to say farewell to Aaron was quite touching. I couldn’t help but shed a tear seeing someone so amazing leave us. Aaron’s service as LTG will always be cherished.
The basketball tournament held on April, 23, 2016, was a great success! It was a tournament between five teams, with players from Key Club, NHS, and NTHS. This double elimination tournament held in the AUX gym, came to an epic end with Nihar Raju, June Kim, and Kevin Meng coming out victorious. Alongside the tournament, players who were eliminated were allowed to have free play, and concessions were also available! Overall the tournament was a great experience and well organized by Anu Thennakoon and all of the 2016-2017 Key Club Board. It was definitely competitive, but most importantly fun for all who attended!

Relay for Life A few days ago, I attended my first Relay For Life. Being a freshman and first-year Key Club member, I didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t expect the four hours of rain which caused us to have to be relocated in doors for the last four hours of the night (I mean morning) and that drenched my panda onesie. Regardless, Relay for Life was a truly memorable experience. For the first seven hours of mostly clear skies, I got to hang out with all of my friends and meet new people from different schools. When we walked around the track in silence in order to remember the purpose of the event, to support the battle against cancer, lanterns were set along the surrounding bleachers, spelling out words like “Hope”, “Win”, and “Cure”. It was truly a profound and beautiful moment. Throughout the night, I felt the love and friendliness in the atmosphere, as we all gathered for a common purpose and spent our nights hanging out and bonding. It was the best social event I’ve ever been to and it was really great because I knew it was for a good cause. So yes, I did mess up my sleep schedule for the weekend, and yes, I did accidentally fall asleep somewhere between 4 to 5 AM (despite my deliberate efforts to stay awake), and no, I did not enjoy being cold and wet, but I still loved all of the great memories I made and I can’t wait to come back to make even more next year. - CHANEL PULIDO
