Hello Key Clubbers! Welcome to the fifth installment of Chargers Corner! I hope that all of you had fantastic summers, and that the school year was off to a great start! It was great to see many new faces at our first general meeting of the school year, and I hope you guys stick around! You won’t regret it at all. With the new school year, there will be many more opportunities to get service hours at volunteer events! In order to get inducted into Key Club at our Winter Banquet, you will need 25 service hours. There are service opportunities every week, so you should try to go to as many as possible to interact with new people and experience new things! You can also earn hours for sending in pictures to our historian, Leo Li and by sending articles to me! Contact information is on the last page of this newsletter. You can get a ½ hour for every article or for every 10 pictures! I hope that you all have an amazing school year full of fun, friends, and of course, service. Catch ya in the next newsletter! Hello, Clark Cuties! During the month of August we had our annual ice skating social where members were able to reunite with their friends after the summer break! We were able to raise some funds for the club. Freshman Orientation also took place. I'm so incredibly excited to meet all the freshmen who will be joining us as the newest Key Club members. I promise that you will not regret your decision to join and it will be one of the best decisions that you will make in your high school career. The officers were able to pass out over 300 flyers, informing the incoming freshmen of what Key Club is.

We also experienced the start of the school year and had our first general meeting of the school year. We had 100 members in attendance and held our very first Camp Key Club! Already, b we are making significant progress towards our goal of serving the community and raising money for preferred charities. Keep it up, chargers! I look forward to seeing you at all of our future events and I especially hope that you attend of Key Club's biggest events, Region Training Conference. You only live once so why not experience it all?

kiwanis ARTICLE BY: MATTHEW WONG
The Kiwanis DCON took place at the JW Marriott. We worked with other key clubbers and Kiwanians to sell items. The Kiwanis DCON lasted three days, and we worked in shifts for different time periods. At the booth we worked at, we would write down the what the Kiwanians were going to buy, as well as the size and quantity on an order sheet. We handed them their items and then they would walk over to the Kiwanians that were volunteering at the booth to pay. I would definitely go to this event as I got the opportunity to meet several people from other divisions as well as my own while I was there!

backpack giveaway ARTICLE BY: KIMMY LI On August 19, I volunteered at the Backpack Giveaway held by Vegas PBS at Clark High School. Their goal was to hand out 3,000 backpacks, that's a lot! At first, I wasn’t expecting that many people to come; I thought it was going to be a small event. I was surprised of the number of people that came! Many children and their families came to this event; there was a very long line of people waiting. While some volunteers directed people to rows to be seated and held up signs to let them know when to stand up to get their backpacks, others got to hand out the backpacks. The children seemed very excited to get their brand-new backpacks despite the fact of waiting in line and sitting down for a while. Even though I got the job of holding up the sign and directing people, I saw the smiles of the children who received a backpack. That brought me joy and happiness to see how happy they were! I had a lot of fun at this event with my friends! At the end of the event, I even got a backpack! Overall, this event was an amazing experience; I’ll definitely volunteer again! 7

The Ice skating social, held on August 19th, was a really fun event. It was a great way for incoming freshmen to meet and be introduced to the Clark Key Club. We skated for about 2 hours. Well, at least most people did. This was my first time ice skating, and boy, was I terrible! I didn't skate that much, but during the time I was, I mostly held on to the side of the rink and inched my way toward the exit. Overall, though, I had an amazing time. I met many new freshmen who were passionate about service! 8
ARTICLE BY: KATLYN WONG The ice skating social took place on August 19 at the Las Vegas Ice Center and it was a really fun event! Especially since school was coming up, it was super nice to see everyone before summer ended, including some unfamiliar faces, some of which who were incoming freshmen. When I first got on the ice, I almost fell a few times, but I didn't! I adjusted quickly, which is pretty good considering I hadn't ice skated in four years. Some people refused to make it to open ice, such as our treasurer Anish, who would not let go of the railing if his life depended on it. Regardless if you could skate or not, everyone still talked and helped each other. Plus, some of the money went to a good cause. It was a nice way to forget about school for two hours. Not only that, it was also nice to not be in 100° weather for once. Would definitely do this again given the chance, and I would highly recommend others to come the next time we have an ice skating social!

freshman ARTICLE BY: TIFFANY BUI This was the first time I had ever attended a freshman orientation, and it turned out to be quite different than I expected. Instead of being reminiscent of a science fair, this event turned out to resemble a night market as we strived to catch the attention of passersby. However, with the board full of spirit and covered in gear, it was an easy task for us to attract attention. With many of our recruiters being their typical rowdy selves, the national anthem was sung and on-the-spot cheers were made. We passed out lollipops and flyers to spread information and in return we had a lot of freshmen sign up. It was exciting to see new faces being genuinely interested in what Key Club was, and It was even more interesting to watch our LTG Justin Zhou deliver his passionate monologue. We had many onlookers from parents, to students, to little kids who enjoyed our cheers, Camp Key Club promotional video, our trifold and our club. Overall, this event was full of laughs, loudness, and love, and it makes me anticipate our first meeting of the year!

first annual STORY BY: KAYLA ARCANGEL Ever since I signed up for Camp Key Club, I was so excited and couldn't wait for the day to come. And I’ve got to say, this was probably the most fun I've had in ages. I learned some things about my fellow members through the icebreakers we did, had a blast when we played jail, and when we did the park clean up competition (TEAM UNICORNS FTW), had fun with my friends and also made some new ones. Most importantly, I learned so much about the history of Key Club, officer and DLT positions, the charities we raise money for, and future events through the different workshops. Even though my Key Club experience isn't as long as the other members, after this event, my love for this amazing club has grown. I'm very glad that I got to be a part of the FIRST EVER Camp Key Club, and I'm very excited for what's to come later this school year!!

STORY BY: TIFFANY ZHANG With it being the very first Camp Key Club, I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out. Attending events I've never been to before is definitely a gamble because you never know if it's going to be enjoyable or not. I'm glad that we were able to have an event like this. Not only were we able to teach new Key Clubbers about everything they needed to know about Key Club, but we were also able to build new friendships and strengthen ones that were already built. I met so many new people with this event and it was great to see everyone else enjoying themselves as much as I did. From ice breakers to capture the flag to the trash pick-up competition, everything was equally as great. Since I'm a senior, I'm sad to say that I won't be here to see this event continue on in the next few years, but I'm excited for the younger ones that will be attending them in the future, because it was definitely an event that got me to love Key Club even more than I do now.
