Ethics, Legal Issues, & Cyber Security Unit
Mrs. Carter – Room 4108
Directions: Use the following website to read about possible scenarios that you could create a comic strip about ‐‐ http://www.library.illinois.edu/uni/computerlit/scenarios.html. You DO NOT have to use one of these scenarios. You could create one of your own. Follow the steps below to create a visual “comic strip” of the situation using PowerPoint. Below is a very simplified version of what is expected. Each image is a new PowerPoint slide. EXAMPLE:
Part 1: Use pictures from the internet to create characters for your comic strip. Be sure to create a situation that will clearly explain your scenario. Also include a moral to the story (ending that has a lesson to be learned from the situation).
Part 2: Use Fireworks to eliminate all unwanted objects from the picture including white space. TIPS about Fireworks Set your canvas to Transparent (no color) so there is no background color Use the Magic Wand tool to select similar colors Use Select Inverse to select the opposite of what you have selected
Part 3: Once you have your pictures formatted how you would like, copy and paste the picture into PowerPoint. People’s thoughts or what they say should be displayed in a text bubble. After you create the first frame, add another slide and use that as the second frame. TIPS about PowerPoint To move pictures in front or behind other pictures Right Click Order To create Text bubbles, go to Autoshapes Callouts To change the direction of the text bubble, click on the yellow diamond at the bottom of the Callout and move it where you want it.
Part 4: Once you have finished at least 8 frames, add a footer to your PowerPoint on Notes on Handouts. Print two slides per page to the color printer.
Comic Strip Checklist _____ Is the scenario’s message clear? _____ Is there a moral to the story? _____ Does the comic strip make sense? _____ Are all the pictures high quality? _____ Are all the pictures formatted appropriately? _____ Are all the pictures in an appropriate order (front to back)? _____ Does the comic strip have at least 8 frames? _____ Are text bubbles (callouts) used to display text? _____ Is the PowerPoint setup to print two slides per page, with a header and footer, and in color?
