Welcome to Intro to Business & Technology! The goal of this course is to provide an overview of business and technology skills required for today’s business environment. Knowledge of business principles, the impact of financial decisions, and technology proficiencies demanded by business combine to establish the elements of this course. The intention of this course is to prepare students to be successful both personally and professionally in an information-based society. In this course, high school students can acquire skills required to create, edit, and publish industry- appropriate documents. Professional communication skills and practices, problemsolving, ethical and legal issues, and the impact of effective presentation skills are taught in this course as a foundational knowledge to prepare students to be college and career ready. Competencies for the co-curricular student organization, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), are integral components of the foundation course standards.

Mission and Philosophy Statement Business and Computer Science is an integral part of the total education program. Its mission is to develop and apply the use of technology and business concepts that are essential for all students. Business and Computer Science teaches the necessary information to develop critical-thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, and teamworking skills to prepare students for entry-level employment and post-secondary education. The Business and Computer Science curriculum is designed, delivered, evaluated, and updated to provide flexible opportunities for career exploration necessitated by our changing world.

GRADING PROCEDURES: ASSIGNMENT GRADES WILL BE GIVEN ON WORK DONE IN CLASS, HOMEWORK, QUIZZES, TESTS, AND/OR PROJECTS. THE NUMBER OF THESE ASSIGNMENTS WILL VARY EACH GRADING PERIOD. SOME GRADES (TESTS, PROJECTS) WILL BE COUNTED MORE THAN ONCE. THESE WILL BE AVERAGED TOGETHER AND REFLECT THE EIGHT WEEKS GRADE. THE FINAL
EXAM COUNTS 20% OF THE YOUR OVERALL SEMESTER AVERAGE.
Weighted Grades - Grades for honors level classes will be increased by 2 points each semester. Grades for Advanced Placement courses will be increased by 4 points each semester.

END OF PATHWAY ASSESSMENT Students will take MOS Certification in PowerPoint upon completing the Business and Technology Pathway and the NOCTI Job Ready Assessment upon completing the Business Accounting Pathway.
ARTICULATION/COLLEGE CREDIT Articulation is a partnership agreement between Wiregrass Georgia Technical College and our school system that allows a student to earn college credit for courses taken in high school. Specific requirements to receive credit apply. Cook High is not currently offering articulation of Intro to Business & Technology.

Introduction to the Marketing World 1.5 FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS OF AMERICA FBLA is a co-curricular student organization in Business and Computer Science that promotes leadership, career planning, community service, and social networking. Membership is strongly encouraged for all students enrolled in this course. Dues are $15.00 for local, state, and national membership. Dues may be paid in my classroom, and any checks should be made payable to Cook High FBLA. INTERNET USAGE IN CLASS SETTING In order to enhance student learning, students will use the Internet daily as a resource tool for this class. While in a Business and Computer Science lab, students will comply with the Technology Use Policy for Cook County Schools. Failure to follow county mandated guidelines would result in punishment that ranges from loss of privileges to administrative referral. All students and parents are required to sign acknowledgement of Internet guidelines prior to a student using the Internet.

BATHROOM PASSES: You will be permitted 5 restroom passes; use them wisely. If you must go to the restroom after you have used all 5 of your passes, each time you go to the restroom will be an assignment to Restricted Lunch. Reserve your passes for emergencies only. If you have not used all of your passes at the end of the semester, you may turn them in for extra credit.
