Selma The CFS community honored the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. this week with special activities of remembrance. On Monday, local filmmaker Tony Chennault (pictured below), a former Villanova Wildcats point guard, spoke to the students about his passion for creating films about inner city life, and the important role mentors play in avoiding pitfalls. The next day, students created "Dream Flags," a project developed by the Agnes Irwin School. The flags are hanging throughout campus. Various activities are planned for February's Multicultural Month, as well.

Faculty Profile: Stephanie Heerschap Stephanie Heerschap, foreign languages teacher and cottage faculty member, has been at CFS since 2008.

Like most faculty and staff at CFS, those are just a few of the hats she wears! She also serves as an academic advisor, the 9th grade coordinator and grade level leader, is the co-advisor to the Multicultural Club (MCLUB), is a Conduct Review Board member, Middle States Planning team member, the costume coordinator for Pageant and an Admissions committee member.

Stephanie studied at Siena College before getting her master's in foreign languages from Middlebury College.

How do you think learning a foreign language prepares CFS students for the real world?

Learning a foreign language will prepare students for the real world because we are increasingly living in a more global society. To be able to communicate well with other people, we need to have an understanding of their language as it is the key to understanding their culture. Our cultural background informs our language and communication. When students study another language, they are studying another culture and learning to think from other perspectives which ultimately allows them to participate and communicate with others in a more meaningful way.

Does CFS offer any opportunities for students to practice their language outside of class?

We have had opportunities to bring students to different restaurants in Philadelphia and West Chester to use the language with native speakers. In our upper level classes, our students have also had opportunities to seek out and communicate with native speakers in a variety of countries via social media and electronic communication.

New Facebook Page for Day Students and Parents Church Farm School recently launched a new Facebook page exclusively for CFS Day Students and Parents where liaison Marvin Garcia will be keeping you up-to-date with school news pertinent to day students, including weather notifications. You may also use this forum to network with other parents and students, and ask questions! "Like" our new page here, and don't forget to like our school page for all CFS news all of the time!

Class of 2015 is College Bound!

Recently we announced that Ced Moise '15 had received a full ride to Princeton University. We're also pleased to announce that more than half of the Class of 2015 has already been accepted to competitive four-year universities, including Purdue, Pitt, Washington University in St. Louis, Bard, Temple, Penn State, Rider and more. In addition, our seniors thus far are eligible for more than $800,000 in scholarship money. Congrats, guys, and we can't wait to announce all of the final decisions!

Don't Miss Rich Lunardi Memorial Choral Concert on Feb. 1 Join us in the school's Chapel of the Atonement on Sunday, February 1 at 4:00 p.m. for a benefit concert in memory of former Church Farm School college counselor and math teacher Rich Lunardi. The onehour, free event (donations benefit the Pancreatic Cancer Network) features music by the Laudate Chorale of New Jersey and the CFS Choir.

Arrangements include Schubert's "Holy, Holy, Holy," DuruflĂŠ's "Ubi Caritas" and many more songs performed by the choirs both separaely and together.

Last Call to Submit Information for the CFS Family Directory We are in the process of putting together a "Family Directory" that would give you access (behind a login on the Parents section of our website) to the contact information of other CFS parents and caregivers. Families have said the directory would be helpful for connecting with other parents, especially in seeking out people who may live in the same area for carpooling, etc. Please take 10 seconds to fill out the survey here and indicate your interest in having your information published in the directory, and which information we are allowed to provide to other CFS families.
