in support of THE CHW NERI BLOOMFIELD ACADEMY OF DESIGN FASHION BLOOMS will raise funds for a world-class, cutting-edge design academy located in Haifa, Israel. The Neri Bloomfield Academy of Design was established in 1971 to provide vocational education to young Israelis who strive for a higher level of academic training. Students come from all over Israel, with different religious and cultural backgrounds, and they come together learning side by side at the academy. The college awards academic degrees in a wide variety of creative fields, including graphic design, architecture, and fashion. This institution is developing academic excellence and becoming a major influencer and innovator in the world of design. A highly respected design school of higher learning, it nurtures individual creativity among its student body while instilling a sense of community and co-existence. With the most advanced technologies and modern, interactive spaces, students are acquiring the specialized skills and design oriented critical thinking needed to become outstanding leaders and professionals in their respective fields. The proceeds from this event will support student scholarships and state of the art equipment to enhance the future of the Israeli fashion industry. It will also showcase the design talents of fourth year fashion students graduating from the Academy who are ready to make their mark on the Israeli fashion scene. CHW passionately supports programs and services for children, healthcare, and women in Israel and Canada. For over 100 years, Canadian Hadassah-WIZO (CHW) has made a positive and lasting impact on the lives of women and children in the areas of education, social services, and healthcare.

Welcome For over 100 years, CHW has made a positive and lasting impact on the very fabric of Israeli society by transforming the lives of women and children. It is our mission to ensure that at-risk women and children can access stateof-the-art healthcare, education, and social services, in a safe and secure environment. Last year, we stood before you as rockets rained down in Israel and violence escalated, and today another country is under attack and our Israeli partners have been called upon to help. We are proud of the urgent humanitarian aid provided by Hadassah International for the people of Ukraine and WIZO Israel’s absorption of refugee students who have arrived in our youth villages, with an influx anticipated over the next few weeks. Our hearts and prayers go out to the families of the victims of the terror attacks this past week. We stand with Israel, always. Our deep gratitude goes to Tova Train, Fashion Blooms Chair, for her tireless dedication and to her national volunteer committee, who collectively ensured the success of tonight’s event. Kol Hakavod. We also want to thank our donors, sponsors, and supporters, and the students, faculty, and staff from Neri Bloomfield, for helping to ensure today’s event is a huge success. To Sharon Tal, Maya Reik Belfer, and Danit Peleg, thank you for allowing us to showcase your breathtaking talent. You are all trailblazing designers who are revolutionizing the fashion industry by putting Israel on the map with your creativity and innovation. Finally, to Jeanne Beker, we are so grateful for your steadfast support of CHW and continued participation and support through Fashion Blooms. Our second annual Fashion Blooms will raise funds to transform the lives of our students and provide support for their future. None of this happens without you, our dedicated and generous donors. Through your steadfast support, CHW continues to transform lives and make an impact in Israel and Canada. Sincerely,

biographies SHARON TAL

HEAD DESIGNER OF MASKIT

Honoring and building upon a legacy takes talent and respect for heritage. Fortunately, head designer Sharon Tal has both in spades. Formerly head of embroidery at Alexander McQueen, and also having interned under Alber Elbaz at Lanvin, her appreciation for tradition is matched only by her attention to detail and willingness to reinvent. Since taking over the helm in 2014, with blessing and input from Ms. Dayan, Sharon and Maskit have launched several successful collections and shown internationally. In the process, they have also managed to honor and innovate, revitalizing a brand while earning plaudits for their striking designs. Conceived in 1954 by Ruth Dayan (former student of CHW Nahalal Youth Village), Maskit made contemporary luxury clothing utilizing traditional embroidery techniques from Hungarian, Yemenite, Bulgarian, Bedouin, Palestinian, Druze, Lebanese, and Jewish artisans. The resulting works of art created more than jobs for immigrants; a brand was born. Maskit wasn’t just any brand, though: its luxurious and coveted designs were treasured by leading women of the era. Audrey Hepburn was just one of the stars who wore its famous Desert Coat. And the celebrities inspired their fashion-forward followers to stay on trend by wearing Maskit. Collaborations with Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, and Givenchy followed a flagship store in New York City.

biographies MAYA REIK BELFER

FOUNDER & DESIGNER OF MAREI1998 Marei1998 is a ready-to-wear and accessories label for the new era. Focusing on feminine, sophisticated silhouettes with impeccable details and eco-conscious materials like recycled nylon, vegan leather, velvet and faux fur, the house offers a signature take on enduring elegance. Each collection explores the notions of romantic old-world glamour balanced with a contemporary sense of ease. Founded in 2015 by Maya Reik, Marei1998 is rooted in a classic-modernist design sensibility, uncompromising quality, and respect for the planet. In 2019, the brand became an official member of PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals). Growing up in the coastal Israeli village of Beit Yanai, Maya spent many days with her grandmother, who despite her advanced age, was a confident world traveler with strong opinions and a chic wardrobe. Maya was mesmerized with her vintage pieces and stories of a time gone by. As Maya got older, she caught the travel bug and fell hard for old European cities. She strolled the streets of Rome, Paris, and London, admiring the art, architecture, and street markets where she searched for lost treasures. The balance of green spaces and ornate buildings left a lasting impression. She started dreaming of designing her own world—a collection that paid tribute to timeless style and the beauty of nature in a way that was meaningful for her generation. Marei1998 is the convergence of old-school glamour and a modern mindful mindset. Maya loves dreaming up classic, feminine silhouettes and making them responsibly out of sustainable, vegan materials that lessen the harm to our planet. The final collections are discerning and thoughtful, made to last and to complement your personal style. When you buy a Marei1998 piece, it will be with you for a long time. Wear it well.

biographies DANIT PELEG

FOUNDER & CREATIVE DIRECTOR OF DANIT PELEG Danit Peleg and her team are passionate about challenging the ecosystem to develop new materials, new printing techniques, and new software breakthroughs. Danit is a fashion designer and a pioneer in 3D printed fashion. In 2015, she made international headlines for being the first designer in the world to create an entire collection using desktop 3D home printers for her graduate project. In 2016, she designed a dress for the dancer who performed at the Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony. In 2017, Danit launched a revolutionary platform on her website that allows customers to order and personalize their own 3D printed garments. In 2020, Danit went a step further by offering digital files of 3D printed garments that can be downloaded and then printed at the customer’s nearest 3D printer. Danit believes that the generous exchange of ideas in fashion drives positive change and growth in this industry. The Danit Peleg 3D Team works closely with both material researchers and printing companies to realize the dream of making 3D printing in fashion accessible to everyone. The team also aims to revolutionize the fashion industry by drastically cutting waste and pollution. This means disrupting traditional fashion supply chains and ultimately creating a more sustainable, hopeful alternative for the future. These 3D-printed fashion items are highly coveted and have been sold and loaned to fashion icons, schools, museums, and events around the world. Danit is also a TED speaker and has been featured in world-renowned publications such as Vogue, The New York Times, and Women’s Wear Daily. In 2018, she was recognized as one of Europe’s Top Women in Tech by Forbes. In 2019, the BBC named her as one of the 100 most inspiring and influential women in the world. Danit believes that 3D printing opens up fascinating new opportunities in fashion and wants to inspire future generations of designers to dream big. She is based in Tel Aviv, Israel.
