THE MONUMENT

THE MONUMENT FOR THE SECRET In March 7, 2017, Wikileaks dumped a mega-trove of CIA hacking secrets. In a statement to WikiLeaks the source details policy questions that they say urgently need to be debated in public, including whether the CIA’s hacking capabilities exceed its mandated powers and the problem of public oversight of the agency. The source wishes to initiate a public debate about the security, creation, use, proliferation and democratic control of cyberweapons. Secrets are precious and unique to every different indiviual from all across the world. CIA hacking secrets in a way indicates the gradually disappearing private space in contemporary society with advanced development of technology. In this particular event, from my own perspective, the monumentality of the secret should come from the act of confrontation with the power authority that initiated this hacking behaviour. Since CIA is the intelligence consultant agency that serves for the president of the United States, the White House becomes the identical and essential consideration of the project. Confrontation with the White House is the main characteristic of the concept. The gesture of the form comes from four types: Munstead Water Tower, 1898, Godalming, United Kingdom; Castel del Monte, 1240s, Andria, Apulia region, Italy; Cathcart, around 1450, Glasgow, Scotland, UK and Bunker Architecture,, WWII. Initial idea of the form is to create a shell that confronts with the white house. A defensive gesture that resembles the Type-Bunker Architecture. The shell is very sealed off, while the inside is designed to have an open sharing atrium to allow sunlight in and to engage public activity. Located right next the central power of the united states, the project itself is a strong object based manifesto of “Declaring the Protest”. The high rise tower with the anthropomorphy guesture is gazing its neighbourhood. Moreover, the program of this project is A PRESS CENTER. Monumentality could survive and shine without a program. However, it would make it more vivid and durable if it could integrate a practical program into its form. The project aims at viewing secret as a sacred territory, where monumentality comes alive through the combination of its radical location, anthropomorphic gesture and practical function.

Former NSA contractor, Edward Snowden The individual responsible for one of the most significant leaks in US political history is Edward Snowden, a 29-year-old former technical assistant for the CIA and current employee of the defence contractor Booz Allen Hamilton. Snowden has been working at the National Security Agency for the last four years as an employee of various outside contractors, including Booz Allen and Dell. The Guardian, after several days of interviews, is revealing his identity at his request. From the moment he decided to disclose numerous top-secret documents to the public, he was determined not to opt for the protection of anonymity. “I have no intention of hiding who I am because I know I have done nothing wrong, he said.

Form VS Function Water tower is actually a very essential part of forimg a city. Its pure form of a tower supporting the water tank at top gives itself a strong and straightforward expression of its functional purpose. Moreover, to have a secret of your own is to store it in your heart. Water tower’s implication of lifting water tank as a storage unit resembles the monumentality of secret’s sacredness.

Once a prison It was built during the 1240s by the Emperor Frederick II . It is situated on a small hill close to the monastery of Santa Maria del Monte. Occasionally used as a hunting lodge under Manfred of Sicily, the castle become a state prison under the latter’s victor, Charles I of Anjou: here Manfred’s sons Henry, Azzo and Enzo were kept as prisoner after 1266, as well as other Hohenstaufen supporters. This octagon shape form is its own texture in elevation. “prison“ function along with its location suggest the feeling of worship and enclosure, which in a way make one curious about its interior.

Cathcart, around 1450 Glasgow, Scotland, UK The ancient parish of Cathcart straddled the county boundaries of Renfrewshire and Lanarkshire. It extended over a much larger area than the present Glasgow suburb, stretching all the way from Langside to beyond Netherlee. The district was the base of the Cathcart family, whose hereditary seat was Cathcart Castle. Very little now remains on the site of the castle which stood at the top of Old Castle Road. In 1980 what was left of the ruins were declared dangerous and required immediate demolition.

The castle had been built around 1450 on a cliff-top overlooking the White Cart Water by the Cathcart HWfamily. During the time of Wallace and Bruce an earlier structure was occupied by Alan de Cathcart, who was a staunch supporter of those legendary Scottish heroes.

Bunker Architecture,, WWII Defensive architecture is therefore instrumental, existing less in itself than with a view to “doing” something: waiting, watching, then acting or, rather, reacting To live in such a place is not so much to “dwell” there as it is to “take it on” for an act for which the casemate is the instrument. These buildings are no longer just receptacles but binnacles, which is what distinguishes them from ordinary architecture and what gives them this anthropomorphic character. There is here a close relationship between the function of the arm and that of the eye.

Type

Defensive gesture War is ar once a summary and a museum ... its own. War is at once prospective and retrospective; fortifications ain mot only to conserve power but also to conseve all combat techniques. Pictures on the left show the plans and sections of a typical bunker architecture. All of these architecture are present in the meaning of the concrete mass built to hold up under shelling and bombing, asphyxiating gasses and flamethrowers.

SITE

Location The site should be around the white house since it is about the confrontation. In order to intensify this purpose, it is bold and exciting to make the site right next to the white house. It would make no sense to put it near Washington memorial, the already extremely high tower.
