CIMA professional development CIMA professional development is the continuing professional development scheme for CIMA members; it supports you in your career by helping you identify your future learning needs. CIMA Mastercourses can help you meet this requirement. As business becomes increasingly complex, learning throughout your career ensures that you: • R emain up-to-date and relevant • Develop your knowledge and skills • Play your part in maintaining the integrity and credibility of the qualification and the profession.
Who has to do it? All CIMA members are required to undertake CPD and keep a record of their development activities. If you are retired or on a career break contact CIMA for guidance.
How much do I need to do? CIMA doesn’t prescribe numbers of hours or units, we simply ask that you do as much as you need to remain professionally competent and meet your career goals. CPD hours are included in this brochure for members of those professional bodies where CPD hours are required.
Where do I start? To help structure your development, all CIMA members are required to work through the CPD cycle at least once a year. This framework helps you define what you need to do, assess your current abilities and identify gaps in your skills and knowledge, design a plan to fill those gaps, take action by working your way through the training, then reflect on what you’ve achieved and evaluate what you still need to do.

6. Evaluate progress against the objectives set at the beginning of the year. Any outstanding development can be carried over into the next cycle.
How do I record my CPD? All CIMA members are required to record their professional development. As a minimum your records need to cover the last three years and need to follow the six steps of the CPD cycle. When recording your professional development you have three options: • AICPA | CIMA Competency and Learning website: The website provides a one stop shop for your CIMA professional development. Using the CGMA Competency Framework as a basis, the website allows you to assess your development needs, find learning resources and track your progress. Find out more at: competency.cgma.org • CPD record form: A simple document that allows you to record your development needs, actions, and outcomes. • CIMA Development accreditation scheme: CIMA Development recognises those employers who support the lifelong learning of CIMA members. CIMA members employed by these organisations can use their appraisal/personal development plan to record their CPD, and don’t need to submit their records if selected for monitoring.
