Networking seminar on franchising business Coming to the last CPD event of year 2011 we invited Mr Franco Lam, Chairman of Swisher China, a successful entrepreneur who grew his hygiene management business enormously in the past decade, to come and shed some light on how he developed a franchisee business in the Greater China region. He outlined that his business model filled in a gap that restaurants needed and it was not a cost leadership competitive advantage that made his business successful as one may expect but one of quality and customer service. His expansion into the mainland required an unconventional way of selecting franchisee that required them to be very hands on. He also noted that his business was not capital intensive so was immune to many of the challenges that manufactures or retails may encounter when doing business on the mainland. The event held on Friday night 9 December 2011 attracted a crowd of over a hundred members and friends. From the active Q & A session at the end of the seminar we can see that the audiences found the seminar very interesting. Thanks to all members and students who participated in this and also the past events. Without your support these functions could not have been so successful. We shall look forward to organising more interesting and enjoyable networking CPD events in the coming 2012.
