Richard Cratchley, sales manager at AVID Plc, has been working for the company for over 21 years. With a background in I.T infrastructure, sales and purchasing, he and the entire team at AVID have constantly strived to improve and innovate the microchipping sector.

The Business

AVID, one of the pioneers of creating the pet microchip technology, has been manufacturing, identifying and reuniting pets with their owners since 1985. The UK office was established over 30 years ago and the UK PETtrac database provides reunification of lost pets 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

As most readers will know, the pet microchips are a small device, about the size of a grain of rice, featuring a unique number to identify a variety of animals, from your dog or cat to alpaca and birds of prey; providing a permanent means of identification.

USPs

When compulsory microchipping was introduced in 2016 AVID made the decision to provide free electronic transfer of keepers to breeders and welfare organisations. There are no charges to accept these transfers and no ongoing monthly or annual charges. We recognise the importance of having up-to-date contact details on the database, and as such PETtrac send email reminders to registered keepers as a prompt – after all, it can make the difference when it comes to trying to reunite a lost pet.

AVID has continually strived to be as sustainable as possible, long before the current trend. Our offices have been awarded low energy usage and we ensure all office materials used are sustainably sourced and recycled. Even our microchip product packaging can be recycled.

Additionally, over 99% of our MicroChip registrations are received electronically, making registration instant, more secure and significantly reducing the need for paper registration forms. Not only is this a more sustainable way to receive registrations, but it also gives real peace of mind to the pet owner when they receive registration confirmation so much more efficiently.

Customer service has always been the most important aspect of our business with a number of our unique selling points directly attributed to providing a solution for our customers, based on their feedback or requirements. We are very much customer-driven, which is particularly apparent in our customer retention and loyalty.

After 30 years in business, our primary goal is still the successful reunification of lost pets.
