David Dooley was sentenced to 43 years in prison Thursday, April 11 after he was convicted, for the second time, of killing Michelle Mockbee at a Boone County warehouse where they both worked. In March, a jury recommended Dooley, 45, spend 38 years in prison for the murder of Mockbee and an additional fi ve years for tampering with evidence. Boone County Circuit Court Judge J.R. Schrand followed the recommendation of the jury. Mockbee was found dead in the early morning of May 29, 2012, at Thermo Fisher Scientifi c in an industrial park near Florence. This is the second time a jury has convicted Dooley of the murder of Michelle Mockbee. In 2014, Dooley was

convicted and sentenced to life in prison. The Fort Mitchell mother of two worked at the company for 16 years as a logistics representative and performed payroll duties. Dooley and his wife worked at Thermo Fisher as janitors. Prosecutors said Dooley killed Mockbee because she had found out that he and his wife were “triple dipping” when getting paid. Prosecutors believe Mockbee may have surprised Dooley as he was breaking into her offi ce on the morning she was killed. Jennifer Schneider, Mockbee’s sister, said her sister’s death has left a “tremendous void” in her family’ life during a victim impact statement in court on Thursday. Schneider said any sentence is “just not enough for the act of pure murder.” On the day of Mockbee’s death, DooSee DOOLEY, Page 2A

Russo is strike chairman for Airline Professionals Association (APA), Teamsters Local 1224. About 20 Pilots from Atlas Air, Southern Air and ABX Air Inc. circled the sidewalk for four hours at a busy Turfway Road and Ky. 18 intersection carrying signs demanding a new contract and better working conditions. Pilots, who have to work away from home, nevertheless need new internal work rules adopted by other airlines that give more regularity in scheduling, Russo said. “We have fatigue issues,” he said. Atlas Air issued a statement in response to the protest calling the move, similar to a protest at the same location last year, a bargaining table negotiating tactic. “Atlas values our pilots and is eager to increase their pay. Any delay in completing the next pilot contract has been a direct result of the union leadership’s refusal to adhere to its contractual commitments, which provide for an orderly and timely resolution of remaining conSee PILOTS , Page 4A
