3 Letter from LTG

Hello Everyone! Welcome to my third publication of gLAM with Division 22 of the 2018-2019 service year. I hope you are enjoying your January month so far! I can't believe 2018 is already over and it is 2019! New Year, More Service! At club meetings, make sure there are fun activities and service projects to engage members into Key Club! DCON is 2 months away, so start preparing now! You all deserve recognition for the work you've done so far. I will see you all at elections/DCM! It is essential to respond to my texts so that I can help you guys out efficiently. Also, seniors, take a look at the available Key Club scholarships. Please take your time to read this issue to see what I have to say. I hope you all enjoy! Thank you :)

Likes: DCON, Mildliners, Face masks, Greatest Showman Dislikes: Shrimp, Cherry flavored medicine, chemical based sunscreen Fun Fact: My Vietnamese name is Thuy which means water.

Member Recruitment Want more students to join your club? Here are some ideas to recruit more potential Key Clubbers! Incentives: Have food out during meetings (everyone likes food!). Let people know of the benefits of being a Key Clubber (senior scholarships, service hours, attending fun conventions, etc.) Take advantage of every social media platform to let students know about upcoming meetings and project! Collaborate with another service-organization club (Interact, NHS, E.R.A.S.E, etc.) and attract some of their members to your Key Club Promote with flyers and announcements! The more publicity, the better! There are many resources online (ex: https://www.keyclub.org/resources/recruitmen t-posters/ )

Division 22 Election

5

Elections will be in the Riker Room at Jefferson Township Public Library on Saturday, February 2, 2019, from 1-3 pm. Every club MUST attend! Get to have your voice heard and ask questions for our future divisional leaders. I am looking for candidates, and those who are underclassmen and interested have the opportunity to run at these elections and take on a leadership role of a lifetime.

There will be a DCM afterward!

CMRFs Club Monthly Report Forms are usually filled out by the club secretary. They are due on the 10th of every month. The CMRF is a 5-10 minute survey

where your secretary (or another officer, if needed) fills out a form describing everything your club has done within that month. This allows the New Jersey District Board to evaluate the improvement of your club and see if you need assistance with anything, or if your club can qualify for awards at DCON.

District Project The NJ District of Key Club International has declared Hunger in NJ as our District Project for the 2018-2019 service year yet again! The district collaborates with the NJ Federation of FoodBanks to help support food banks around the state. This federation services 5 main food banks across the state (as illustrated in the picture). You may be unaware about it, but 1 in 8 NJ residents rely on food banks. Hunger is a very serious problem, yet it can be overlooked in our very own state. Key Club will continue to aid with this problem, and that is why the district hour goal towards the NJ Federation of FoodBanks is 25,000 hours and a fundraising goal of $65,000. Continue to participate in activities, like the canned food drive in our school, as your contributions can assist in promoting our District Project, and help those in need.Â

Advocacy Focus The New Jersey District of New Jersey has chosen this year's advocacy focus to be

Sexual Harassment Prevention and

Awareness. Our goal is to raise awareness against Sexual Harassment. By doing so, we want to educate students, parents, and teachers about the effects, the signs, what to do, and when it crosses the line to sexual assault. We want to encourage students to speak up for themselves and eliminate myths (for example, sexual harassment only

create cards for sexual harassment victims and/or distribute teal ribbons to show that you are a supporter of ending sexual harassment. For more information on this, go to happens to girls). At club meetings, you can

DCON The 73rd annual District Convention of the NJ District Key Club will be on

March 29th-31st

at Ocean Place Resort. Please keep promoting the event and make sure your Key Club knows of it!

The theme has been decided! *Drumroll* It will be Disney/Pixar - Toy Story If cost is the problem,

fundraise early!

DCON -Service Fair

16

and Club Spotlight Key Club is an international, student-led organization that provides members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership. Because of your dedicated service to your community, we highly recommend our DCON attendees to attend our service fair on March 30th (Saturday) from 2:30 - 5:30 pm, at the New Jersey Key Club’s District Convention at the Ocean Place Spa and Resort in Long Branch, NJ. Have the opportunity to discuss with different service organizations, and learn more about their specific service contributions to bring back home to your club! Your presence at the service fair would open new partnerships between your organization and Key Club and increase awareness towards various causes. We are hoping to increase the amount of hands-on service at this event. If you can attend, each organization booth will give you a raffle ticket (just have them write their names and clubs on the back) and service certificates. Raffle tickets will allow you to enter into our Key Club Swag contest where you can win our merch! Each service certificate will give you 0.5 hours of volunteer hours that you helped in a specific service project. We hope that you’ll consider attending our service fair this year! Please take some of your free time to visit these organizations that came to attend the 2019 NJ DCON, that way they will agree to work with us again next year! Additionally, we are looking for Key Clubs that hosted a successful service project during the 2018-2019 service year. Clubs interested can have their own booth during the club spotlight on March 30th (Saturday) from 11:00 - 11:30 am. Contact ltg22.lam@njkeyclub.org to sign up and get the opportunity to share your project in front of other Key Club attendees!
