3 Letter from LTG

Hello Everyone! Welcome to my sixth publication of NJDB gLAM of the 2018-2019 service year. I hope you are enjoying your September month so far! School is here, and it is time to get into the service groove. At club meetings, make sure there are fun activities and service projects to engage members into Key Club! It is important to have many involved members that are interested in attending events. Please take your time to read this issue to see what I have to say. I hope you all enjoy! Thank you :) Likes: Jenny Han, mixing ketchup with mayonnaise, waterparks, sunflowers Dislikes: Underwater statues, the Rainforest Cafe, the smell of cigarette smoke Fun Fact: I eat a different kind of fruit (almost) every night. Last night, I had a peach :D

Member Recruitment With the school year here, it is time to map out your recruitment plan! New freshmen are unaware of Key Club, how will they know to join? Incentives: Have food out during meetings (everyone likes food!). Let people know of the benefits of being a Key Clubber (senior scholarships, service hours, attending fun conventions, etc.) Take advantage of every social media platform to let students know about upcoming meetings and project! Collaborate with another service-organization club (Interact, NHS, E.R.A.S.E, etc.) and attract some of their members to your Key Club Promote with flyers and announcements! The more publicity, the better! There are many resources online (ex: https://www.keyclub.org/resources/recruitmen t-posters/ )

Fall Rally, or what you may know as the Key Club event held in Six Flags Great Adventure, is our biggest event of the year! Come and celebrate the start of the new school year of service with over 3,000 dedicated Key Clubbers across the state, while joining in on a pep rally including information regarding all of Key Club's recent activities. This year, Fall Rally will be held on Sunday, October 7th! Show off your best club spirit during the opening ceremony and join the quest for the coveted spirit stick. Bring your loudest cheers and get ready to show some divisional pride with the help of your Lieutenant Governor! The day starts off with inspirational speeches from your district executives and a food drive for the district project: Hunger in New Jersey. All proceeds from the food drive will benefit the New Jersey Federation of Food Banks, which provides meals to food-insecure families in New Jersey. Get a chance to hear from our keynote speaker, Stephen Gandley, past Kiwanis District Governor and Key Club Zone Administrator. After the session, all Key Clubbers can meet Mr. Gandley and get a chance to talk with him. Experience the fun rides and attractions with your fellow Key Clubbers at Six Flags for the rest of the day and attend Fright Fest by night! Late registration(on-site) is $45 and registration is only $7 if you have a season pass! If you have any questions or concerns, contact Katie Lynch at ltg9.lynch@njkeyclub.org or Alexis Faison at ltg1.faison@njkeyclub.org. Late registration is due the day of Fall Rally at the park! Fall RTCs RECAP

The fall season marks the annual NJ Key Club’s Fall Rally Regional Training Conferences. Known as the RTCs, these workshops are organized by the NJ District Board to help train and inform Key Club members on all things Key Club. RTCs are a wonderful way for members to get to know fellow Key Clubbers, to be fulfilled with Key Club knowledge, and to even win cool raffles! This year’s theme is Blooming in Service!

District Programs Updates Advocacy Focus: Our goal is to

raise awareness against Sexual

Harassment. By doing so, we want to educate students, parents, and teachers about the effects, the signs, what to do, and when it crosses the line to sexual assault. We want to encourage students to speak up for themselves and eliminate myths (for example, sexual harassment only happens to girls).

At club meetings and DCMs, you can create cards to sexual harassment victims and/or distribute teal ribbons to show that you are a supporter of ending sexual harassment. Also, include the advocacy focus in your newsletters. Key Leader:

You can register and pay online at www.key-leader.org. All LTGs should register by September 19th. Registration ends on November 19th, 2018, and any registrations afterward will be charged an extra $25. It lasts for three days and two nights from November 30thDecember 2nd at the Baptist Camp and Conference Center.

DCON Promotion/Planning: The 73rd annual District Convention of the NJ District Key Club will be

March 29th-31st at Ocean Place Resort. Please keep promoting the event and make sure every Key Club in NJ knows of it! on

The theme has been decided! *Drumroll* It will be Disney/Pixar - Toy Story If cost is the problem,

Youth Opportunities Fund The

Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) is an endowed fund for Key Club

International held within the Kiwanis International Foundation. It uses interest, as well as a portion of your International dues payment, to help Key Clubs and

providing them with grants to carry out worthwhile service projects and fundraisers. • YOF grants are given only to Key Clubs and/or club members in good standing. • The application must be received by October 15, 2018 at 11:59 PM EST. • Clubs may request funding assistance ranging from US$100 to US$2,000. • Applicants must use the online YOF grant application. Key Club members serve the world around them by

Steps: Step 1. Begin the Form: Sign up on the Youth Opportunities Fund grant application online at https://kiwanisinternational.submittable.com/submit. You’ll need to choose one Key Club member (Club President) and one involved adult to be contacted for the selection committee. Have them complete the first two sections of the application form. Step 2. Declare your Project: Prior to beginning your application, your club should have discussed the project with which they’d like YOF assistance. Write that project’s name and a short but clear description to fill out on the form. Step 3. Address the Finances: A prepared budget for your project is a must! Record every dollar of both YOF grant and the additional funds you’ve raised for the project. Step 4. Complete and Mail: Once you’ve completed every field and read these conditions, have your Key Club member contact, adult advisor, and school principal sign and date the form.

District Project The NJ District of Key Club International has declared Hunger in NJ as our District Project for the 2018-2019 service year yet again! The district collaborates with the NJ Federation of FoodBanks to help support food banks around the state. This federation services 5 main food banks across the state (as illustrated in the picture). You may be unaware about it, but 1 in 8 NJ residents rely on food banks. Hunger is a very serious problem, yet it can be overlooked in our very own state. Key Club will continue to aid with this problem, and that is why the district hour goal towards the NJ Federation of FoodBanks is 25,000 hours and a fundraising goal of $65,000. Continue to participate in activities, like the canned food drive in our school, as your contributions can assist in promoting our District Project, and help those in need.Â
