he story unspools at a stadium in Rome in the 1960s, where Milkha Singh fails to secure a medal at the Olympics. The film, mostly narrated in flashback, covers telling episodes from his childhood and live and sensitively chronicles his life - his trauma of losing his family during the Partition, his untamed youth, his joining the Indian Army and the biggest event of all, his love for race.

irst he runs for an extra glass of milk, next to escape a parade, then to wear India’s blazer and subsequently, he runs to get the world at his feet.

is love for race takes an important turn in 1956 Melbourne Olympics, where he is disqualified in the first round of the 400m sprint. This makes him realize that running is not as simple as it seems.

hen comes the motivation. He goes on to win several championships after that including Asiad and Commonwealth Games. These Hollywood technicians have proved that 3D in live action film will surely connect with the viewer as much as in other genres like fantasy, sci-fi, horror and supernatural.

opichand, as Goutham, is the employee of a private security agency with day dreams of taking short cuts to wealth. In a twist of fate, Goutham finds out about a will his rich grandfather left him. Played by Suman, the grandfather had a diamond business in Peshawar. That was before the partition.

n the present day, Gautham embarks on a quest to lay his hands on the inheritance tied to the legendary Hinglaj Devi temple.Tapsee, as Sreenidhi, plays an expert on Hindu religion and helps the hero on his journey. The villian is Sultan, played by Shakthi Kapoor, Sultan is a terrorist, who is after both Goutham’s property and a hidden treasure from the Kanishka Empire.

ariyaan deals with the story of construction fishermen (Dhanush) who will be having a close bond towards sea, as it is the place where he earns his livelihood. He calls himself a ‘Prince of Ocean’. The way he earns his livelihood is shown in more adventurous way. More than Dhanush’s love interest, Panimalar (Parvathi Menon) has played the role of a model wife, who forces Dhanush to change his job and asks him to go to Sudan. The movie takes a turn at this movement.
No doubt Mariyaan will lend the National award for Dhanush. His sufferings on-screen, bursting and agony during emotional scenes have come out well.

Dhanush has given extraordinary performance especially in the second half, where he has to go through physical struggle. Parvathi Menon has got a typical native look with her costumes and has maintained a good chemistry with Dhanush. Marc Koninckx, work should be appreciated, his camera work in the under-water scene is mindblowing. AR Rahman’s score will make the audience to keep humming even after they are out of theatre. The slow pace of the movie helps the audience to feel the emotions for more time. It seems like director Bharath Bala has purposefully leisured the pace.

Things turn against them from this time, and each one of them gets into trouble. The characters are hardly noticed till the interval, after which everything happens all at once. The movie seems to convey a message that the characters are not so important, while the place is just right for a horror movie.
One is said to be inspired from a real incident. But in the midst, the movie drags for a continuity in the dark! It is not a ‘classic’ movie. It has scenes that are rarely seen ever in a cinema! The movie is categorised under horror films. The haunted mansion truly describes something fishy. All have done their roles to an optimum. There are hardly any dramatic scene, while all kinds of messages are conveyed easily.

Chodyangal is told 101 from the perspective of a young boy. The movie works out slowly and steadily into our minds. 101 Chodyangal do not have huge dialogue delivery, romance, melodrama and even comedy, but still the movie captures one’s heart.
With respect to performances, everyone is consistently good. Master Minon, Indrajith as his teacher and Lena as his mother, all showed measured performances. Other characters have also shown their best. Indrajith has showed a measured performance in this movie. We have seen him in different roles, but his Mukundan Master is sure to fetch him great applause and he deserves it.

Master asks him to frame 101 questions regarding different facets of life and their answers, so that they could be sold out at the market in the form of a book. Mukundan promises the child Rs 1 for each meaningful question. The curious and vibrant Anilkumar starts his quest for 101 questions. After a long struggle, Anilkumar manages to assemble his 101 questions with their answers. But the last question he finds out leaves everyone into surprise.

ero is injured and he is admitted to hospital by a girl named Swathi (Kriti Kharbhanda), who is into tears looking at him, in Mangalore. Soon we are told that he is a business tycoon Sharath (Yash). But he needs blood, and she decides to donate her blood in order to save him. A flashback opens up with the heroine, a medical student, coming to Bangalore to participate in the World Economic Form.

e are told that Yash doesn’t like girls, but believes in love. However, he pretends as if he hates love. While the girls ignore him for the same, Swathi likes his strange behaviour and starts liking him. As expected, he too falls in love. Both of them delay to confess their love. However, the story takes a twist when the hero sees his leading lady talking to other person. This creates a difference and they part ways. The remaining part answers how they come together again.

Not only the hero, but even audience will fall in love with heroine for her cute expressions and smiles. Her chemistry works well with Yash. Ananth Nag, as always, does justice to his role. Technically, the movie is good. Two songs of the movie are nice to hear and background score by Anoop Selin is praiseworthy. Director Pavan Wadeyar has blended comedy with various commercial elements to churn out a good love story. More importantly, there are enough surprising googlies in the movie.

he story highlights of how a blind director makes a Kannada movie without revealing his handicap. Manu (Ramesh Aravind), a film director, is selected by producer Prabhu (Rangayana Raghu) to direct a movie called Kathriguppe.

ut he becomes blind as he could not face the tension of making the movie. Fearing that he would lose the job, he never reveals his blindness to anyone. He has his assistant Ranganni Ravishankar Gowda). There are excellent comedy sequences like Manu addressing the heroine looking somewhere, approving the shots without looking at the monitor, selecting costumes for the lead roles, etc. But one fine day everyone comes to know that he is blind. Though upset with the turn of events, producer Prabhu tries to cash in on his blindness by making announcement that a blind director is directing his movie.

he story takes a curious turn when suddenly Manu regains his eye sight. But that does not help him as he had to act as the blind director so that the publicity he got for the movie is not lost. How does he do it? It is full of comedy sequences.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is the kind of cinema that doesn’t tempt us to share the protagonist’s life with any false hopes. We the audience are driven into a desperate urge to share Milkha’s life not only because he ran fast, but because he wasn’t afraid to stumble, falter and fall.

he story of super-sprinter Milkha Singh unfolds in this exceptional biopic at its own volition. There’s no effort here “to tell a story”, to create an impression or to whip up a dramatic storm to captivate audiences. The synergy in the storytelling seems subliminal.
T
he absolutely seamless editing by P. Bharathi is impressive. The film is very stylishly cut, but not at the cost of losing the simplicity and the innate ascetism of the sportsman-hero. And yes, there are songs composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, but they are so effortlessly woven into Milkha’s saga that we don’t see them as “song breaks”.

arhan Akhtar does the Bhangra as well as any Punjabi. Actually, he doesn’t dance. He just flows with the rhythm.

arhan doesn’t ‘play’ Milkha. The actor occupies Milkha’s mind, body and soul. There are episodes in this astonishingly, well-structured biopic where Farhan’s oneness with Milkha equals Ben Kingsley’s empathy with Mahatma Gandhi in “Gandhi”.

arhan does the rest. And he gets tremendous support from other actors, specially Divya Dutta, who is incomparably sincere in her role. Pavan Malhotra as Milkha’s coach is as usual, first-rate.

Interview with Gopichand It has been a while since your last film released… Yes. It is a very long gap. I have never had this kind of a gap in my career. When we started out, we planned to complete ‘Sahasam’ in six months. But the careful detailing, the special effects and other such issues prolonged it beyond six months. But I am very happy with the final output.
Is the Sahasam story based in Pakistan? Yeah, the hero goes to Pakistan in search of something. The story is set in the Pakistan border areas. We shot those portions in Ladakh, as it is easy to replicate the landscape and the conditions of Pakistan.

When you look back at your career, ‘Mogudu’ is very different from the other movies. Did you want to come out of the action hero image? I had great faith in Krishna Vamsi garu and I banked on him to bring me out of the action hero image. I was expecting something along the lines of ‘Ninne Pelladutha’. But it did not come out as expected and went off in a different direction.
Sentiments play a big part in the film industry. Did the team think twice before casting Tapsee? If you look at the recent trends, heroines who had a flop image are scoring hits. Heroines who were known for their hits are tasting defeat. So, I do not believe in this. Chandrasekhar Yeleti also insisted on Tapsee for this role.
Who stood by you during this tough phase? I kept myself busy with this project. Apart from this, I also believe in fate.
What are your future projects ? I will work with B.Gopal garu and with Deva Katta. Vakkantham Vamsi provided the script for B.Gopal’s film and I liked that story. Some other films are in discussion stage. I will reveal more details soon.
Will you accept negative roles again in future if they appeal to you ? I would love to do a role which has negative shades. Rajasekhar’s ‘Talambraalu’ is a good example.
Is this the most demanding film you have worked in? Physically, this is the most demanding film. I learnt horse riding for 20 days in order to shoot a few scenes. Shooting in Ladakh was also tough due to the thin air in high altitudes.
How is married life? (Smiles) It is good. It is quite different from bachelor life. I enjoyed that life all these years. Now let me enjoy this.
