In an age of mass production, when most of the objects we interact with on a daily basis were mass produced by strangers or by machines, Circle Craft wants to connect you with works and objects whose worth lies in more than their utility or the intrinsic value of their materials, and with people who have a real investment in the things they make. Every item offered at our market has a history—the history of its often recycled or reused materials, the history of its art form, and the history of the people who made it—and by buying an item directly from the person who made it, whether for yourself or for a loved one, you are adding another page to its history. What you will find at Circle Craft is the heart and soul of handmade work: original designs that are thoughtfully and ethically produced by hand in North America. As a patron Circle Craft Markets, you help ensure the future of handmade work by supporting North American craftspeople. Our exhibitors practice what are sometimes referred to as “lost” or “dying” arts. At Circle Craft we believe the opposite – craft is alive and well. The 41 continuous years of our Christmas Market, our new Summer Market in partnership with the Craft Council of BC, and the success of our Granville Island Circle Craft store and gallery inform this belief. As people seek connection to the objects in their world, they have made handmade craft more and more a part of their everyday life, not less. ARTISANS DEMONSTRATIONS Each year, Circle Craft enjoys the opportunity to share the skills and talents of many individuals. Please enjoy the entertainment area in the main entrance of the show where singers, dancers, and pianists of all ages perform. Don’t miss the many artist demonstrations happening throughout the show. There are weavers, seamstresses, jewellers, leather makers, flower and rock creations, stamping demonstrations, glass beading and an active pottery wheel. We have indicated these areas with an eye symbol on the map in this program.

THE BALLOON LADY Sylvia has been performing at Circle Craft Christmas Markets since 1996. Her strong rapport with children, playful style, and balloon-making techniques have proven highly popular with both crowds and employers, resulting in numerous repeat engagements at the Dragon Boat Festival, Canada Day celebrations, Steveston’s Tall Ship Festival, and the Vancouver Sun Run. “My work with kids is far more than a vocation; I use my balloon creations to transfer loving spirit to people, combined with dedication, honesty, fairness, care, and reliability.”
SOLA FIEDLER Sola Fiedler, simply known as Sola, is a senior Canadian fibre artist, best known for her large-scale tapestry tributes to the cities that have hosted the Olympic Games. Her work captures the architectural and spiritual elements of each city, at that moment in time. Since winning a prize in 1973 for Best Fibre Art in Vancouver, BC., Sola’s work has been collected by notable corporations and individuals such as Crown Zellerbach, Woodward’s, the CIBC, UBC, CBC, and Jim Pattison. Her work has been exhibited in numerous galleries across Canada and the U.S, including her own “Soft Space Studio” in Deep Cove, opened during her attendance at the Vancouver School of Art. Over the next two decades, Sola traveled to the cities of Miami, Atlanta, Las Vegas, and Sydney, Australia, weaving in public and on location. In 2001 she was awarded a Canada Council for the Arts grant to create the Salt Lake City tapestry. Born in 1936, Sola grew up in London during and after World War II, when reuse and recycling played a fundamental role in daily life. Her tapestries transform the idea of thrift and make it glamorous. Using yarn procured from thrift stores and estate sales, Sola creates inviting, colorful landscapes full of rich detail and a warmth that comes from its materials. Her work has widespread appeal and is more relevant than ever today, when young artisans worldwide are claiming craft traditions like weaving as their own. 24

BUTTER CHICKEN t Directions: Makes 6 servings -xxMedium t Mix contents of BUTTER CHICKEN MIX, 2 tablespoons OIL and 1½ teaspoons SALT in a bowl to make a spice paste. Add 2 lbs. CHICKEN cut in cubes. Coat chicken evenly with spice paste. t SautÊ 2 chopped ONIONS in 2 tablespoons BUTTER in a pan on medium heat. t Add chicken and stir. Cover and cook for 20 - 25 minutes or till chicken is cooked. t Add 1 cup HALF-AND-HALF CREAM. Stir well. Cook for 5 minutes on low heat. t Add 1 cup PLAIN YOGURT. Cook for 2 - 3 minutes. Stir well.
Quick and Easy! Garnish with chopped cilantro. Serve over a bed of basmati rice.

MĂŠlanger le contenu du MÉLANGE DE POULET AU BEURRE ET AU CARI, 2 cuillères Ă table d’HUILE et 1 ½ cuillère Ă thĂŠ de SEL dans un bol pour obtenir une pâte d’Êpices. Ajouter 2 lb de POULET en cubes.
