FROM THE HEADMASTER Dear Hammond Families and Friends, These are amazing times in which we live. With rapid-fire technological advances and a shrinking global community, now more than ever, students must be well prepared for the changes and challenges that lay before them. The value of a Hammond education has never been greater. Chris Angel

For 50 years we have offered an unparalleled educational experience by preparing students to succeed--and lead--in a dynamic, connected, competitive world. We do this by surrounding each student with exceptional facilities, renowned faculty, broad opportunities in athletics and the arts, and a supportive “Hammond family” atmosphere. As we look toward the next 50 years in Hammond’s history, we must continue to expand and improve our facilities, provide a unique and creative learning environment for growing minds, and ensure the future of Hammond for generations to come. I encourage you to partner with us as we look back with pride and forward with anticipation to all that Hammond is yet to be. All the best, Chris Angel Headmaster

FROM THE CHAIRMEN Dear Hammond Parents, Grandparents, Alumni, and Friends, We are standing at the threshold of a transformational time in Hammond’s history. This is a time in which we have the ability to help shape the next 50 years in the life of a school that has meant so much to so many. A half-century of enormous progress gives us the opportunity to lift Hammond from a place of regional prominence into the ranks of the nation’s very finest independent day schools.

50 Forward: The Campaign for Hammond is the largest, most ambitious, and most important fundraising effort in the school’s history. This campaign focuses on three areas of critical importance for our future: building a unique STEAM innovation center, upfitting our athletic facilities, and creating indoor and outdoor space for our youngest students to explore and discover. As we ask our students to go above and beyond, we must ask the same of the school itself. We seek your support and hope you will feel compelled to help provide new opportunities at Hammond worthy of our standards of excellence. Occasionally in life we are afforded the opportunity to be a part of something significant. 50 Forward is one such opportunity. One that will keep us strong, true, and close to our mission. Help us continue the tradition of philanthropic giving on which this school was founded. Join us in supporting 50 Forward: The Campaign for Hammond. With kind regards, Peter Fawcett Mike Penland Co-Chair Co-Chair

Laying the foundation for the next 50 years involves the hearts and hands of those who have been touched by the Hammond experience. It means setting in place the bricks and mortar for the next generation of students on whose shoulders this institution rests. -- Mike Penland

Full STEAM Ahead

We are generating forward momentum to propel Hammond to the next level.

$4 million

$10 million There’s a fine line between the arts and athletics. And at Hammond, those lines are blurred on a daily basis. Consider the ballet dancer who goes toe-to-toe on the volleyball court, or the tenor who hits the high notes with his jump shot. For every great performance, whether it be on the stage or on the playing fields, it all begins with a place to hone those skills. Modernizing the current gym to include space for music, dance, weight training, physical therapy, and enhanced fan amenities will offer our championship teams and budding artists facilities worthy of their success.

Arts/Athletic Improvements

Innovation Center

Never before has a higher premium been placed on science and the mastery of technology, or the uniquely beneficial qualities of creativity--in nearly every profession. Hammond’s demanding curriculum helps ground students in the basics needed for success. To that end, we are called to ensure that the quality of our facilities matches the quality of our instruction. We must provide a bricks and mortar learning environment conducive to exploration, discovery, and creativity, with an emphasis on science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math. STEAM programs are necessary components of every wellrounded, 21st century curriculum.

facilities are game changers

strength in wonders

Life’s greatest skills are first developed on a playground: the fine arts of collaboration, negotiation, and creativity -- not to mention the first stirrings of athletic accomplishments. These simple moments devoted to free-play help shape the future student. Carrying these same skill sets a step further with early innovation and discovery further round out the student for success in higher grades. Beginning in prekindergarten and continuing through the lower grades, providing new facilities conducive to incorporating STEAM components further enhance early learning.

WE ARE A COMMUNITY OF LEARNERS, we’re also authors and illustrators. And mathematical acrobats, inventors and creators. We are star-gazers and pattern-makers, world explorers and time travelers. Ponderers and problem-solvers, we are inquisitive and methodical and innately curious. We thrive in an environment that blurs the distinction between disciplines and expertise and seek to create a space that allows for both wandering and wondering.

physical plant doesn’t match the quality of our

instruction, nor does it reflect the interwoven nature of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts

and Mathematics) instruction. An Innovation Center will serve as home for creative teaching, student

interaction, collaboration, and exploration. This hub of connectivity will connect students of varied ages,

academic departments and extracurricular experiences, and our campus and the world. We are poised to

redefine what it means to be both prepared and agile in the remarkable future ahead.

arts and athletics facilities WE ARE A SPIRITED COMMUNITY; one that takes pride in the artist and the athlete. The arts and athletics help cement our sense of family. We discover, and rediscover, that the ties that bind are often those found while sitting shoulder to shoulder during performances and competition. Our student-athletes and artists understand commitment, and carry that commitment from the classroom to the studios and playing fields. Updated facilities will maximize the use of existing land, beautify our campus, and continue to allow the arts and athletics to be vital components in the recruitment and retention of Hammond students.

THE SCIENCE OF

lower school playground early innovation center WE ARE EARLY LEARNERS AND THE FUTURE OF HAMMOND. Our youngest learners deserve spaces to play, create, and discover. Preparing prekindergartners through fourth graders to meet the subsequent curriculums of the Middle and Upper School requires the right ingredients for developing the whole child. A state-ofthe-art playground and an early learner innovation center will help pave the way for exploration and discovery, making science out of play and play out of science.
