JB Canada news letter
Issue 4
This issue of the JB Canada newsletter is largely focused on International JB. There are lots of updates from other countries on what their JBs do, how they work and what they are up to. JB international is going to be going through some major changes within the next couple of years and it is important to understand they other JBers around the world and how they work. JB International, What is everyone else up to?????
JB Spain! First of all I would like to describe how our JB works because I think it is the best way to understand what we do. We have three chapters (Madrid, Barcelona and Galicia) and every single chapter has a different structure. For example, Madrid is the biggest so we have lots of people and is easier organize minicamps Mosaic, etc. It is a little bit more difficult for Barcelona and Galicia because they have less members.
,
About what we do: -We have Mosaic projects, for example "supportive breakfasts" (we walk around the city sharing food with the homeless) and volunteering at food banks. - We organize "conforms", where we watch documentaries or movies to debate about different topics (society, economy, war, etc.) - We collaborate with an organization called "Fundación Daniela" which educate about LGBTQ+. They give us talks that are very educational. - Right now our biggest goal is to improve the connection between chapters so we have created a national JB whatsapp group, tried to improve the cooperation between NJR and LJR, and organize common and simultaneous activities. -Another important goal that our JB want is try to find a way to have bursaries to have a more inclusive community in CISV for people who don´t have enough money because we think that CISV values are amazing but it may be hard to access based on socio economic di diversity.
JB Portugal Here in JB Portugal we are going through exciting times, we have brought back to life our mosaic projects, by introducing 2 monthly activities with different organizations, one that focuses on the caring for elderly people in which we are trying to bring some joy and excitement to the residence. The second one is a home that takes in refugee youth and works to insert them into Portuguese society, where JB focuses on developing relationships with them in order to support their integration into an unknown country.
JB Brazil CISV Brazil just had the National Meeting where all 10 chapters (and our future chapter Manaus) got together. Board members and Jbers from all chapter and participants from the national JB and adult board as well. There we focus on trainings. This year we had trainings in Risk Management, volunteer management, financial management, communications (given by JBers) we also had a Regional training forum in Mosaic We also had our elections for the new board (who will be working like the international governing board) and we had the election for the new NJR JB Brazil elected one of the members of the CISV Brazil board as our new Jr NJR.
JB Costa Rica Junior Branch Costa Rica celebrated Peace Day big time. Given that our JB population has a great age range, we decided to give our JB'ers two options to spend this special day with us. The first option was participating in a blood donation campaign we initiated. We invited all of our 18+ communities to join our JB Board and donate blood to local hospital San Juan de Dios. We were really happy to see some of our younger volunteers' parents joining us at this great cause. The second option was a little less ...ruff ( ) ... and a little more fun as we asked our volunteers to join us to "Territorio de Zaguates" ("Wild Dog Territory"). This private park takes care of more than 300 street dogs, and JB Costa Rica tried to help them out by paying them a visit and asked our volunteers to take dog food donations. We are stocked to announce that more than 50 JB'ers joined us in that amazing day!
