IJBC 2017

Spring 2016

Santana Briggs (CISV Fredericton) The International Junior Branch Conference is an incredible learning experience. Not only do you get to meet people from around the world, you also get to learn from them, talk to them, and spend every day together for five days. IJBC is a place to catch up with old friends, work on projects, and continue important conversations started at previous conferences. Everyone comes from different experiences in Junior Branch. Getting to hear how other people handle situations in their countries helped us think more about Junior Branch in Canada. This year some of my favourite moments from IJBC were the break between sessions. Sitting around with the National Junior Representatives from different countries talking about things we were all able to relate to gave me invaluable insights into how Junior Branch works around the world. IJBC is also an environment for innovation. This year I learned that the IPP (International Peoples Project) came out of an IJBC. The ability to network with other NJRs and be together in person makes this the most valuable conference to me.

AJBM 2017 Maddy Allan-Rahill (CISV USA) Hey CISV Canada! This is Maddy here from JB USA! I had the amazing opportunity of attending the America's Junior Branch Meeting this April in Guatemala. The meeting offered a window into the way JB functions in each region, and how my NA fits into the bigger picture of IJB. This was my first regional meeting, and I made many great connections with people. These connections will prove useful in my future experiences with JB, especially in gaining ideas and feedback. It was inspiring to feel the energy of all the JBers working towards similar things as each other. It provided me with the attitudes, skills, and knowledge to effectively work on issues I see in my NA, and it was also a great way to improve my dance skills!! I would encourage you all to check out the AJB Team on Facebook and see what they're up to! Warm wishes from your neighbors!!

Spring 2016

Seminar Camp Tahara Briggs (CISV Fredericton) My name is Tahara Briggs and I am a 18 year old CISVer from the Fredericton chapter! I had the amazing opportunity to attend the most life changing event of my life this summer. This summer I went to Londrina, Brazil to participate in a three week long camp for 17/18 year olds called a Seminar camp. A Seminar camp is a camp for youth to plan and facilitate activities for their peers in the camp. Participants are as well in charge of cleaning and cooking everyday. Participants however are not left to defend for themselves because we all know that would be a disaster so instead we have four staff members who overlook the daily routine and just tie up any loose ends. My seminar camp is one of the most life changing experiences I’ve had because of the connections I made with others, knowledge I’ve attained and self reflection that the camp provided me with. Firstly I have made some of my best friends in the world at this camp. As a group we decided to focus on personal/reflection activities whilst still having a balance with educational content activities but through this we had a safe environment for individuals to share experiences and stories that would normally not always come up in everyday conversation. This meant that everyone got a better of others backgrounds and experiences which strengthen the bonds that were already forming. We also had some educational content activities, which means that we focused on at least one of our four content pillars in CISV. The theme of our camp was Human Rights so for the first week we really wanted to focus in on this theme. We planned activities anything from rating each human right to least important to most (we sadly ran out of time and couldn't complete this because of the varying opinions) to examining the amount of food waste the camp was producing and how we could change our habits to be a more sustainable camp.
